Topic says it all; well mostly. I am looking for fantasy games with modern feminist themes.

One constraint: I do not like the way combat works in the Baldur's Gate games, so please don't recommend me games with that sort of combat, or games with RTS style combat at all. Stick with either turn based or full action games.

(Also, it is preferable, for games with fixed protagonists, if the protagonist is not a man.)

Why do feminists insist that games need to have female main characters, if "empowered female" just means "propensity for violence equivalent to traditional men" anyway?
Judging by those terms, I actually recommend Renowned Explorers because most other games with females solve their problems with violence anyway. And what's wrong with that?

Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3! You can be fat, have weird coloured hair and choose to loose even though you don't have to. If that doesn't encompass modern feminist themes, I don't know what does. DS1 was remastered recently but its full of invading hackers, but that is realistic because it depicts rape culture. DS2 has best best keyboard controls and you can change your sex in game after character creation via an easteregg. DS:Prepare to Die Edition (aka DS1 normal edition) runs equally bad on every configuration so there's a theme of forcing others to sink to your level. For extra oppression use the red thread to invite more invaders to oppress yourself.

DS1 and DS3 controller recommended.

I really enjoyed the two new Tomb Raider games, and I'm greatly looking forward to the third one. There was some stupid controversy about an attempted rape scene in the first of the new ones, but it didn't even pop up on my radar when I played the game. Completely blown out of all proportion. To me, the real outrage is that Sam doesn't return in the sequel, after all the subtext going on between Lara and Sam in the first game. :P

As for fantasy, the Tomb Raider series is fantasy in the same way that the Indiana Jones series is. It's largely grounded in reality, but contains fantastical elements.

I forgot one thing: I want single player games that don't interfere with my ability to pause, save, and reload whenever I want to. I don't like games that punish you harshly for dying, either.

I'm with Lord_Kane, asking for clarification on "modern feminist themes".

In Mount & Blade: Warband, you can play a butt-kicking / -stabbing / -jousting / -shooting / -clubbing female, in charge of a group of smelly men. And get some female NPC followers, as well. That might fit modern theme of women being in charge, running things their own way, etc. I'm sure you know it's more of an action game and light on stats RPG. Though I did find that its sandbox-ish nature lets me be a good guy or a bad guy, and in some ways made it easier to play a role.

Dragon Age: Origins, maybe?

I'll try to think of some others.
