The Drow in D&D are a pretty good example of a feminist society lel.

multiple times? That's a load of c***.

dtgreene: Topic says it all; well mostly. I am looking for fantasy games with modern feminist themes.

One constraint: I do not like the way combat works in the Baldur's Gate games, so please don't recommend me games with that sort of combat, or games with RTS style combat at all. Stick with either turn based or full action games.

(Also, it is preferable, for games with fixed protagonists, if the protagonist is not a man.)
The new Wolfenstein games seem to meet that criteria where modern feminism has taken over the world and it's up to you to defeat them. That's probably the closest you'll find to what you're looking for.
Heroine's Quest (female protagonist, free)
Hollow Knight (esp. upcoming DLC with a female lead; main protagonist is genderless)
CrossCode (female protagonist, in dev, but soon to be released)
Regalia (comedy, ensemble cast, the men are dorks, the villain is male)
Expeditions: Viking (can play a woman)
Shadwen (female protagonist, female companion)
Tales of Maj'Eyal (can play a woman, most prominent faction leaders are women)
Defender's Quest (ensemble cast, 4/7 female protagonists, 3 male villains)
King of Dragon Pass (not literally modern feminism -- it's a fantasy of manners with different gender roles that >implicitly reveals modern patriarchy for the bullshit that it is; ensemble cast, characters die, testerical men/rational women trope, matriarchy is easy mode, female epic hero)

The Witcher III (feminist historical fantasy, but you play a dude)

Crosmando: The Drow in D&D are a pretty good example of a feminist society lel.
Uhhh...no.

I know you're trolling, but Drow society is matriarchal and men have very low status. The only definition of feminism that matches is the strawman version that's peddled by angry men who shout on talk shows.

(Sandy Hook was also a false flag operation and Obama put chemicals in the water that turned the frogs gay.)
Do the Amazons in Settlers count?

More of an RTS I know.

Of course now that I think about it, they were considered strong because of their fighting prowess, not really what I consider "modern". Power through brutality is very archaic and something I'd like to think we will one day evolve away from.

Dogmaus: Gender selection here means a way for a mass of men/kids to discover and molest female profile users
Agreed. Unfortunately we have some female members here who take offense when we get their gender incorrect. Again that's why I try and keep genders in the back of my mind and frequently use "he or she" in my postings.

In swtor, I play female characters and get a lot of crud from some gamers.

Dogmaus: why dtgreene is one of the reasons why you would suggest that?
No. I just stated my reasons from what I've seen previously and with other posters as well. To start providing examples would just be considered a personal attack. Do note what I wrote my first line up there.

*shrug* Maybe if employees would be more responsive.....

It's pretty sad one has to open a support ticket just to get someone to pay attention to GoG's own legal@ email address.

Sorry if that offends you. I'm just going with previous experience.

Ok , I see. I won't go OT more.

No, it;s not that. Even with my personal experience with my third ex, I do try and be polite to women. (edit: Another reason why I try to get genders right.)

Heck, I work for a company with over 7k of them as customers. Be shooting myself in the foot if I didn't.

StingingVelvet: It counts Candy Crush and whatnot, but it's true.
Even under that premise I still can't quite believe it. I believe there are more women into gaming than many people think, and I would like to believe it was nearing 50:50 because boys' clubs suck, but biggest gaming demographic? At least my personal experience in RL doesn't match that at all, in any way, not even if mobile gaming is taken into account. Of course, personal experience is highly subjective, and it may be different in other countries, peer or age groups, but still, it makes me very doubtful toward that claim.

I think you've misunderstood the statement. It's not a claim that women outnumber men, it's that adult women (as opposed to teenage boys or adult men) are the biggest demographic. Mind, when it comes to things like online games you need to take into account that a lot of women play using male characters/don't use voice chat to avoid harassment by jerks. What it means is that companies can't take the purchasing power of adult women for granted when making money, because they're costing themselves potential revenue.

StingingVelvet: It counts Candy Crush and whatnot, but it's true. The issue is there's a massive difference between Candy Crush and Gears of War, which the media likes to ignore. Companies are trying to get women more into "traditional games' though, which I don't think is a bad thing. I also don't think female protagonists are in any way excluding to men. In fact I usually create female characters for my RPGs.
From discussions with my own clients, many of them are interested in a quick sit down and spend 5-10 minutes playing or doing something. That's what Farmville and other similar games are trying to fill.

Some of us like sitting down and playing a single quest or mission for an hour but not every body does.

And I play female characters mostly for voice issues. I find some male voices to be grating.

edit: This is where I would be linking to an article where NASA used females to record voiced instructions but all I can pull up is articles about female astronauts and their makeup. Ok.....

It's been years since I played it and the "fantasy" part of the equation is arguable, but I think you'd enjoy Alcarys Complex. Apparently you can download it for free now.
