I'm not sure what "modern feminist themes" are. But I assume it is something like dealing with gender issues without sounding like a total dick.

How about Loren the Amazon Princess? Turn-based RPG, with "12 unique romances, all possible gender combinations."

Actually, I think its pretty good. The story has a naturally "progressive" tone, which doesn't feel forced. Way casual, but I had a good time.

Linko90: Dragon Age: Origins is a pretty good example. Even more so if you choose to play a female. Beyond that, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines has its moments.

StingingVelvet: My original DA:O playthrough was with a female city elf whose husband was murdered in front of her and I treated the whole game as one long revenge mission. Loved that vibe.
That's actually one of the best written origin stories in that game, in my opinion.

Seriously, that's not pandering, that's just marketing to your audience.
source? Not saying it's false, but it seems highly dubious.

Someone clearly hasn't spent enough time on the internet yet. =P

It counts Candy Crush and whatnot, but it's true. The issue is there's a massive difference between Candy Crush and Gears of War, which the media likes to ignore. Companies are trying to get women more into "traditional games' though, which I don't think is a bad thing. I also don't think female protagonists are in any way excluding to men. In fact I usually create female characters for my RPGs.

I just want badass Lara Croft back rather than this 'woe is me' chick who ends up being a mass murderer in every one of the new trilogy's games anyway.

Hahaha, my wife teases me about that. I don't do it for that reason though, I just love badass chick assassin type characters. Always have, in movies and books too.
When given the choice I ALWAYS go female.

Marketing departments have been telling the industry to stop acting like women don't play games for decades, so it's nice they've finally started listening. It'll take a while for some of the casual players to move into the core market as those games become less exclusionary, but there's a definite demographic shift occuring.

Also, Paladin, if you want a source it goes back to research done in 2014. It caused a stir at the time and got a lot of coverage, so articles abound if you look. Like most things you can find variations in the specific numbers based on what variables are used, but the overall trend points to a substantial increase in the participation of women in gaming. This is a nice post about it.

I guess I have to play the heavy yet again.

The poster has a history with her comments directed to some. And some folks have a history of directing comments in her direction as well.

For reference, I have not voted in this thread and to be honest, I don't recall ever downvoting any of dtgreene's posts previously

She is one of the reason why though I and others have suggested putting gender selection somewhere in the old and/ or new profiles. (For reference, I work for an online company with 7,800 female clients. Gender is something I do try to keep in my mind.)

I post this not to be a trouble maker but to point out what it appears others folks are doing their best not to say.

edit: Having said that, I also wonder about "modern feminist themes" as others have noted.

Or too much, I remember when people in IRC and forums used to behave in better ways.

Baldur’s Gate, ‘Siege of Dragonspear’ has a transgender character.

Gender selection here means a way for a mass of men/kids to discover and molest female profile users. Also, we are talking about our hobby, it is not a dating site. I don't think gender identity should matter here. Of course it can be declared under one's name if one wishes so, or it can be understood by what is said here and there.
Can I ask you why you would want that and why dtgreene is one of the reasons why you would suggest that?

Probably referring to Candy Crush Saga and some simple Facebook farming games, not e.g. PC or console games. Not sure if even they make "adult women" the biggest demographic for games.
