Geralt_of_Rivia: You want Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and The Witcher 3 - GOTY Edition.

These are probably the best RPGs with big open worlds and good replayability that money can buy and they are both available here.
Bloodlines doesn't have big open worlds... If anything the levels felt contrived to me. Streets that suddenly end for no reason and buildings with entrances in odd places.

More on topic, I like UnderRail.

Skyrim
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Drakensang 1 and 2
Dark messiah of Might and Magic
Venetica
Risen
Dragons Dogma
Fable
Two Worlds 2
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Gothic series. Even Arcania isn't that bad (except the ending DLC which was made by a different company).

This guy did.
Deus Ex
Jade Empire
Shadowrun Returns
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Ultima VI
Ultima VII

Daggerfall, Morrowind, Ultima VI and Ultima VII are open world. The others just have spacious play areas, but are still really good RPGs with good replay value. I also highly recommend Anachronox even though it's more JRPG styled and doesn't have much replay value (other than to experience the incomplete, but still fantastic story again).

Well, it's a matter of taste but I liked the gothic games.

myzery37764: im ooking for an rpg game with a good story and large open world. I don't care about graphics or the year it was released. I want a game i can play that wants me to go back and play it over after i finish. What do you guys recommend?
Albion. Large world, epic scale, interesting story, charming characters. Nice 2D with some 3D sections intersped here and there.

Also, it is science fiction, not fantasy. In another planet inhabited by what essentially are the natives of James Cameron's Avatar (you will like them). Maybe you can help saving them from human greed...

A wonderful, epic game.

Nobody mentioning Arcanum? You people...
If you don't have them, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, especially with all the mods available at Nevewinter Vault and Mods.

I think there are only two games that managed that... Morrowind and Witcher 3.

Out of luck, I guess....

Ok, I have not finished it yet, but so far the main storyline in Morrowind has really not impressed me much. And it's not told very well either. The writing is so dry trying to get into the story, not to mention the extensive backstory without which the main story is pretty much meaningless, is almost a chore, like studying for an exam.

tinyE: Oblivion
"Good story"? Some of the side quests are really well written, but I found the main quest rather lacking.

Ok, if you include The Shivering Isles it's another thing. That one was great.

Hmm... matter of taste I guess. True, the story is only told in bits and pieces - not unlike the (in)famous walkings simulators of today. But once puzzled together I found the story of the Dunmer gods and the Nerevarine pretty impressive.

With multiple books that you need to stop and read, lest you are without the backgroung that allows you to understand what might be going on. The need to stop and read interrupts the flow of the story. Not so bad if the book is well written. Some are short, while others will take longer. Some are truly enjoyable, others will be read only out of curiosity. But interrupting the action is often considered the worst way to include exposition. Unless it is made by design? To provide a change of pace when you are bored of fighting?

What do you think about the actual gameplay and said fighting?

Great games. Worlds more open in each iteration. You do feel that you are working your way up the prisoner community, in the first one, and getting around the island, in the second. I have not finished the third but have to try it one day, they say it was the most innovative about moving around in the world while finding consequences from your actions.

I'm usually all about immersing myself in a game, getting into the story, the backstory, reading all the flavor text etc. but for some reason in Morrowind I just find most of it tedious. I think it really comes down to most of the writing being very dry, both the books and dialogue. And some of the books are looong. Eventually I found myself just skimming through them, or looking things up on a wiki, because it's actually written "better", as in also dry, but at least to the point.

Not to mention that as far as roleplaying goes, my character is pretty much a Conan-style barbarian warrior and thief from the north, and having him stop by for hours at the local library just feels wrong :D

I found it very awkward at first, but once I got the hang of it and leveled up some I think it's actually pretty good, just takes getting used to. The only thing that realy annoys me is a lot of backtracking without fast travel outside of between larger towns. It literally can waste hours of ones life to get around.

All in all, I had a lot of fun with figuring the game out, even failing at the beginning was fun in a way, and then I enjoyed exploring, stealing, getting into some trouble etc. I've spend many hours already and had fun with the game. But now I've taken a break, and while I may go back to it eventually to some more quests, I don't think I'll ever really finish it, not with the story boring me, and the world being so big and slow to get around in.
