Pillars of Eternity plus expansions is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and provides an epic storyline (almost up there with Planescape Torment). It is pretty demanding resource-wise for an isometric-perspective RPG though (everything is rendered in 3D via Unity and you just have a restricted viewpoint).
Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete is a huge improvement over the original NWN with an excellent main campaign and a top-notch follow up (Mask of the Betrayer). Viewpoint is not restricted - you have a choice of top-down and third-person perspectives (though this makes control more complex) and there are a huge number of user-designed modules to play afterwards.
Queries like this would benefit by being more specific - there are hundreds of RPGs going back to the 1980's so limiting choices by setting (fantasy, present, future), RPG system (D&D, Pathfinder, Dark Eye, other), presentation (top down, first/third person) and age should allow others here to offer more targeted recommendations.

Another vote for Shadowrun Trilogy. Three games and a lot of play-styles as well as being able to load custom scenarios as well.

Planescape: Torment is pretty much a must-know if you are into story-driven RPGs (or any story-driven games).
I second Disco Elysium mentioned by MysterD, one of the very few games that I'd consider a PS:T successor. Really original, deep, emotional... but it's pure "role playing", no combat. Absolutely brilliant game.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing Final Cut. I've got about 100 hours invested and I've loved every second. This one is good if you like Dark Fantasy/Steampunk with a good dose of humor.

Oh i know all that. Had them on my original Xbox too. But they feel a little too similar. Which is why i comment it as a mirror. Hell i'm sure half the meshes and stuff were transferred over where they could.

Plus, IIRC, I think there was a demo somewhere. Try before you buy.
But the whole trilogy was free on GOG last summer.
