Exciting new stuff for Thimbleweed Park, Man O' War: Corsair, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, and more!

It's a well known fact that after the summer shopping spree is over and what is described by psychologists as "Backlog Guilt" sets in, you are twice as eager to get gaming. But whether you're trying your loot for the first time or you're in the middle of your playthrough, extra content and fixes are always welcome. Here are some titles that got leveled up in the past couple of weeks, in case you missed them:

Thimbleweed Park
Ron Gilbert's darkly humorous point & click got some cool fixes but the most important additions are the all-new idle conversations between your playable characters and an in-game Hint Line. Just dial 4468 (HINT) from any in-game phone to get those sweet puzzle hints that would put your college fund at risk, back in the day.

Man O' War: Corsair - Warhammer Naval Battles
A ton of changes and fixes have been implemented in the game, the most important one being a new campaign which lets you play as Nurgle's Chosen and spread the plague all across the Old World. How can this not be fun?

Vikings: Wolves of Midgard
Plenty of fan-requested features and improvements recently hit this fierce action-RPG. Chief amongst them the couch co-op multiplayer option plus several changes made to the NG+ mode and the Trials of the Gods. Plus the game is now 50% off until next Monday.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
The latest update to the dinosaur-blasting shooter brings Dedicated Server support, as well as DirectX improvements and a few new multiplayer game modes, the InstaRok and New Raptor-Fest.

Through the Woods
This atmospheric horror adventure just became even more atmospheric, thanks to the completely re-recorded voiceovers for the main character, now provided by actress Malin Pettersen.

Expeditions: Viking
Quite a few changes and additions: A new "surprise round" feature to allow player positioning before the enemy turn when ambushed, full Danish localisation, three new campsite scenes in the Denmark campaign, new animations for Taunt and Dust abilities, a new generic support ability animation for when you're wielding a spear, and an animation for consumable utility items (ie. potions).

Death Road to Canada
Fixes and seasonal events galore! Canada Day and July 4th bring recruitable beavers, Uncle Sam, and Muscle Eagle, all of which have special lines and things to say upon death.

So what are you waiting for? Fire them up and check out all that cool stuff!

groze: But I would also like to make something clear: Galaxy doesn't have any notification system for updated games, as well, it's not just the site, like so many people in here seem to think.
avatar
zx1976: The point is that if you use Galaxy, then you get the updates automatically (unless you disable them) so don't need a separate notification (and if you don't have the game installed then you will automatically get the updated version when you next install it).

But if you like to archive your offline installers, like many of us do, then you need the update notifications. Especially when you have a lot of games to manage.
So, you mean to tell me you get no "Updated Games" on your Library on the website? Because I certainly do. It shouldn't be too hard to do backups of the updated installers/patches by simply using that system. Sure, without a proper notification, like we used to have, this means you'll have to manually check your GOG library regularly to see which games have been updated, but the fact is that it still works. Quite well, if I might add.

You see, when I visit my library and I have any updated games, I get something like "MY COLLECTION (617, X UPDATED)" -- X being the number of games that have been updated. If I don't mess with that header -- that is, if I don't click it --, the notification won't go away and any updated game I haven't manually checked will stack up with future updated games. For example, Darkest Dungeon just updated for me, so I get "1 UPDATED". If I don't click on Darkest Dungeon, next time a game updates I'll have a "2 UPDATED", and so on. And then I can click on the header, select updated games only view, and download the offline installers of all the updated games. Seems to work pretty good for me.

Luckily for you, Darkest Dungeon *did* update, so I'll attach two images for illustration purposes. This happens on my end, on the website. It should work the same way for everyone else.

NEWS: Have you noticed these recent updates for your favorite games?
*checks if update notifications have been properly restored, sees they're not; rereads thread title*

It's that time when you're having a laugh at the expense of your customers, GOG, isn't it?

adaliabooks: Yes, but only for installed games.
Sorry if I've misunderstood what you mean but, yes, that's what I said!

Yes I get those. But they're not reliable.

I've noticed several games over the last month or two where I've known there was an update released by the developers (either because I follow the developer's blog or because it appeared in Steam's recently updated list) but there was no notification in my library. But when I click on the changelog in my library, the installer has been updated.

Conversely, there have been update notifications for games where there was no update.

So overall this notification seems unreliable (in fairness, the old one that appeared in the header wasn't entirely reliable either so maybe we haven't lost much).

Somebody else requested a "Sort by last updated date" feature in the library and I also think that would be very useful.

groze: [...] You see, when I visit my library and I have any updated games, [...]
The point of having a properly functioning and reliable notification system is that one doesn't have to visit their library to find out if any of their games got updated.

Additionally, when Judas is out of the office, one doesn't get that info even on their library page.

Last, but not least, often times, games get updated, yet they don't show as such in our libraries, and if it weren't for the "What did just update" thread, we'd never know, and wouldn't inquire what said updates are about.

All in all, ever since the notification system was scrapped (and that was what, like three months ago?), I got exactly six games flagged as updated in my library.

So yeah, instead of visiting my library, I visit the thread I just mentioned.

GOG, why still pretend to care for you users while relentlessly mock them at every occasions?
Of course we didn't noticed the updates, that's a feature that never worked since GOG existed. For years the community (the only one working for improving GOG) tryed to help you fix it while providing their own notification in a specific thread. Now you removed the not working feature from the site and left it only on the "optional" (while you try to force it on your users by ruining the alternatives) Galaxy Client. It's useless anyway as on Galaxy the update notification is only for installed games. We lack a way to know when was the last time we downloaded the installer for that game.

So, why are you not doing something for improving GOG in years and still come out with this kind of "good news"?

Dear GOG, this could be the lamest joke since your closure hoax.

This whole thread makes me laugh so much.

Either the announcement is a goof, illustrating how entirely disconnected from the customers experience the GOG staff is, in which case this thread doesn't have any more chance of reaching them than the billion earlier ones about broken notifications,

Or the announcement's author is genuinely having a laugh, in which case this thread just fuels it further.

Aaaaaaand I can't even decide which option I prefer, both are hilarious.

Thread's title: Have you noticed these recent updates for your favorite games?

And I wonder, how nice could be for a store trolling its customers?
Fix the notification system, so that we will notice!

Sure haven't since notifications no longer work on the website and only sometimes work on Galaxy. Thanks for checking.

Rather than helping everyone else beat the fossilized horse skeleton into dust, I wanted to call this out:

Good thing you mentioned this after both of those holidays have come and gone. (Although maybe they're more like Terraria's seasonal events, in which case they might still be applicable for another few weeks.)

GOG.com:
Have you noticed these recent updates for your favorite games?
Since the introduction of that clunky toolbar I do not notice much anymore, so no I have not in all cases but ManOWar but only because its subforum I stroll each now and then.

But I also do not always get updates on forum notifications and getting to them has become more uncomfortable in navigation and performance on top of it having become an annoyance to handle on a mobile (10" tablet) so no thanks there either.

... anything else?

adaliabooks: Eh... I'm usually on your side Gog, but considering the current state of game updates and notifications this was possibly not the best news post to make...
I understood now. There can't be any other explanation.
There must be a rebel or troll in Gog's team XD

Nope, I didn't notice. Because you took the 'updated games' notifications off the site.
I think some of the comments here were bound to be expected, while partially I agree with some of them I gotta say they're starting to get a bit better every day.

I didn't get the one for M&B Warband today but did get the one for Tales of Maj Eyal, that's a step forward.

A new sorting by "recently updated" would be handy, this can be a bit tricky since GOG tends to do internal updates so maybe this could be implemented in a way where it works only if a changelog is present.

Painted_Doll: Thanks for the American McGee's Alice HD version . Now i can replay the game on Win 10 x64 .
I don't get it. Is this in reference to something?
