If I could eat stones, I would re-buy all the games that I own on Steam and GOG now offers. But for now, I only do so with the games most amazing for me or when an urgent need arises.

Well, I do this. I most often wait for some promo, but rebuying at full price happened. GOG versions are just mighty more convenient with piss-poor internet access. At my wife's house there's only cellular internet and that won't change any time soon. (Mountains, poor community with huge road network to take care of and not that much people to pay taxes, and so on). I have installer backed up for every single game I own on GOG. And that means in excess of 250 of them. And when I have an installer on external HDD or pendrive I just can take it anywhere. No internet needed. It's a kind of freedom I am willing to pay for extra.
Now when I have choice I never buy on Steam. Sometimes I have to if I want certain game. Borderlands or Microsoft Flight Simulator for example. But if it's on GOG then it's simple.

I also believe in GoG, but not deleting games in my steam library. About hundred of my retails are tied to steam account. Hostage is the right word I guess..

Indeed, playing fps UT with gamepad doesn't seem very smart. I grabbed the game on PS2 because I was more curious rather than serious. Played with gf on split screen, sacrilegious ; )
The same with Quake III Revolution..

A little exaggerated, I think. I don't have to worry what will happen if my wife plays one of my games when I play another, because she's not a gamer (apart from Candy Crush and the like). So replace "spend your life alone" with "be the only one playing on your Steam account" and that would be reasonable. If the wife doesn't play and the kids play on tablets or consoles, you're pretty safe.

I usually don't rebuy games i own on Steam here. But i rarely make exceptions for games i really like and probably might play again in 10-20 years.

Sure, especially if there's a 50% off sale. Then again, unless it's a game I absolutely adore I generally hold out for a 50% off sale regardless, so it's still about the same amount of money I paid in the first place.

I don't really see how it's different from buying new copies of games that I still own on CD or floppy. I bought games on Steam as that was the only store I knew at the time. As soon as I discovered GOG I stopped buying games on Steam because I was so much happier with GOG's policies, customer support, and packaging. I've slowly worked my way through my Steam list, which was never that long to begin with, and now have a minuscule use for it. These days I only open Steam if I want to play XCOM:EU, Crusader Kings II, or CivV. That's it. All the rest of them I own on GOG. When those three become available on GOG I'll toss Steam in the garbage and not blink an eye.

To avoid paying twice I usually try not to buy games through Steam. Solves the problem for me.

It largely depends on how much I like the game and how likely I am to replay it.
The odds are high if it's a strategy game, sci-fi or simulation game.
For example I just re-bought the X-series on GOG.

I've stopped buying these kind of games on Steam since the likelihood is high that they'll eventually arrive on GOG or some other DRM-free distributor. If not, I sometimes buy them DRM-free directly from the publisher or developer.

I don't hesitate buying games on Steam that are extremely unlikely to ever appear on GOG or other DRM-free sites, in my case it's games like Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, RaceRoom DLCs, WRC 5, MotoGP 15 and so on.

No way. I have rebought physical disc games because of convenience and removal of the DRM, but buying from here as well as Steam is just silly. If the Internet went down and I couldn't play Steam for a while, I would just play the games I have from here or my PS3. No need to rage when there are games to play.

Believe it or not the PS2 port has compatibility with a USB keyboard and mouse. Unreal Tournament and a few other games are a select few that work with that on the system.

I bought very few games on PS2 actually, not a big fan of consoles to be honest. So, no additional hardware for me : )

If it's a game I really like and GOG is selling it at a good discount, yes, I'll rebuy it here. It's not like I've spent much money on Steam anyway - I have a little over 100 games there and got nearly all of them through bundle sales, so they probably cost me in total something like $10.
