Wait, am I the only one from the GOG forums that visited the
Cyberpunk 2077 forums when the trailer was released during that E3 thing recently? Looks like they got the same forum software as that link to the Gwent forums in the OP of this thread.
Anyway, yep, very fancy composing, like HTML email. But also very simple views, just like the GOG forum.
If CDPR is changing forum software yet again, then obviously they haven't been satisfied. So how about they go through all the trial and error first (which does take a year or so at a time), then GOG implements what works best? (I don't understand why that isn't obvious.)
I'm fine with the current GOG forum, if only because no software is perfect since no update is future proof. Not to mention forum software doesn't manage itself.
If there are additional options for moderators when changing the forum software, then the moderators will be expected to use those options. For example, moving OT posts into a new thread, or moving threads between different groups, or whatnot. New forum software with more micromanaging would likely mean needing more employees, and at least new training for current employees involved with these forums. Quality is not going to emerge instantly just by installing new software. (But isn't that obvious, too?)
But then again, maybe I've been using computers for too long for my own good. I definitely have very little expectations from computers anymore, and have even stopped writing my own applications years ago. It has seemed to me there are no improvements with OS updates, just new differences. Especially nothing worthwhile with the main focus on the pointer using interface (PUI), gestures, and voice recognition (noisy! try that in classrooms, at work, or out and about) instead of giving more attention to a stable, self-revealing, and less acrobatic interface like the KUI.
How about we try out newsgroups for GOG? Newsgroups still exist, you know. Then members can find their own newsgroup software that they like, individually. No need to rely upon GOG to even moderate, just filter posts on your own with the newsgroup application you chose.
Perhaps even create a few personalized collections of posts filtered by member name, probably with a white list rather than a black list (a.k.a. a reverse kill file), t.i. show posts from only certain members (personally chosen). Then if that wasn't entertaining enough, a person could still toggle to view all other posts in a certain thread. That'd be little difference from cross-referencing a friends list, but with more flexibility of multiple lists (if desired) and no chance of being publicly revealed on the GOG website. For example, you could make list of people who you believe to be knowledgable about a certain topic and cross reference with whatever GOG game newsgroup (like the subforums for games) so as to view their posts primarily. Then view all posts if bored enough. I mean, of course you'd have to find a newsgroup application that offered such abilities, or one which you could easily modify to do that.
Anyway, I haven't really liked any forum software, either too gaudy or not enough personalized filtering and grouping (topic, members, tangents, etc.). And it sounds like some members here in the GOG forums want change just for the sake of change (and not just the forum software), especially whenever anyone declares the version number isn't changing fast enough. Yet, there's always clamor for more change afterwards.
