I just want to say, I really appreciate GOG and what they do. I was thrilled to get elite force 1 and 2, star trek aramda and bridge crew on here recently. Bought them all immediately when they finally came to gog.

Also picked up the newly released shadow of mordor. Sweet!

I know some of the news has been kinda rough for GOG in recent years, but I hope GOG is doing well, because I really appreciate what you folks do.

Feel the same as OP. Critique is good but it's important to show a solid foundation of appreciation for GOG.

You bought the Star Trek games, recently, but back when they were released? Almost a year ago isn't what I'd call recently. Don't type with your mouth full.

Your not allowed to have this kind of thread about GOG. :) It's odd because the hate for GOG is weird. It comes off like GOG ruined their life, and made it not worth living anymore. Ha-ha, I only see hate for GOG on their forums of all places. Well and on that other that starts with a Z.

I too appreciate older games functioning on my PC properly out of the box. Well, most of the time. I haven't had any real reason to doubt GOG aside from maybe Gothic not performing well (and a couple of really bad crashes where I've had to restart my computer), but it's not like I've tested every game I've bought. I don't seem to come across the same problems others have with games.

I'm too skeptical to be grateful to a corporation (I perceive them as revenue optimizing automatons really), but to my sensibilities, they are still the best store out there (though not as good as they were pre-Galaxy, but better than they were at the time of the Hitman incident) and hence I'm still here.

I too really appreciate gog being around.

Whenever i'm about to bang on my chest and scream "DRM-FREE" as if I'd coined the term - and there seems to be plenty of that going around - i pause to remember that without gog the term would likely be utterly meaningless by now.

When week after week DRM Free games keep showing up here - many of them on release - i remember that back in '08 most people said that what gog keeps doing every week. what we now take for granted, was an impossibility.

So when frustration rises, and there's plenty to feel frustrated with/about gog, i try to temper it with some much due gratitude.

Been here for a long time. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of transparency. Talking directly to a bunch of angry people is never pleasant, but it usually has a better outcome than ignoring the people that provide them a paycheck to live on.

Most of the other problems are derivative of this first problem. As most things being able to be discussed with the people that make the decisions would provide enough backlash before dumb things are implemented at all. Like a bot system as one example of intentional foot shooting.

... I appreciate the size of GOG's DRM-free catalogue and their continued acquisition of DRM-free games.

And while many have had issues with GOG contacts and support, personally I have found them (most times) both accommodating and quite helpful.

They are certainly NOT a storefront I want to see disappear!

A few years ago I found myself searching abandonware sites all over the net having decided to relive my glory days of yore in the crpg genre. As many of you no doubt know, that was a maddening experience. Then one day I stumbled across GOG.com, and low and behold, I could buy all of the classic gams I'd loved and replay them, working right away without having to jump through hoops and endlessly play with DOSBOX to try to get them to work - and for mere pocket change! I've been here ever since, haven't had had any kind of problem with anything I've purchased or played, and I am very grateful! I hope GOG thrives for many years to come!
