escapist23: In about 18 years of occasionally playing videogames, but trying a LOT of them, I realized that most games are just rubbish and nonsense. I have always kept looking for the 'next' incredible game, and never found it. The only ones that stood the test of time, to me, are very few and far between, and this is probably true of your cases as well. Probably a couple of games out of accurately selected dozens based on apparently great reviews. Interestingly, I always read first the NEGATIVE reviews, and I am always surprised how insightful they are: they quickly tell me of all the things I don't want in a game, either, and all the glaring defects. Most of these reviews are written by choosy and difficult 'gamers' like me, which are to me the most useful reviews, as they imply a certain amount of experience.

There's just so many games, but almost none that are truly worth spending dozens of hours on. Tons of quantity, but very little quality. Most of them have nonsense stories, no humour, no sense of tragedy, dumb characters, NPCs without personality, chaotic and messy battles, a zillion worthless items, etc. The only mostly high quality constant in them, are the soundtracks. I must say, especially PC games, have the most amazing soundtracks I have heard. And the graphics in most of the 'best' modern games are very pretty. But that's where it all ends, for me.

End of the rant :)
op is 100%right
Lol, OP just created another thread "Video games are boring and dull", looks like it will become a kind of tradition, haha.
Op is 2 years older now, they may have changed their opinion since then. Which could mean that it makes you wrong, about them being right...
Well as they say, one person's trash is another person's treasure.

It's all subjective, without a doubt.

Just look at all the games where roughly 50% of reviews call it crap, while the other 50% say its great.

So you can only ever speak for yourself, and so if you think most games are trash, then clearly that's how it stands for yourself, for where you are currently at personally. It is kind of meaningless for the rest of us though, except as maybe a judgment of someone's tastes or tolerances or expectations.

Yes, and that is really the problem with the world at the moment though. Nothing can be thought of as right or wrong. Everything has an army of supporters and denouncers. And it will only become worse as everything becomes more factionalised and dug in. Could it even spell the end for democracy when neither side will concede or agree?

Oh, in terms of the OP, yes there is an increasing amount of trash, made possible by easy engines and asset stores. There is also a lot of very broken games and I fun games, partially excusable by being complicated, but mostly it’s down to bad design choices, and investors.

In my 36 years of being a computer/arcade gamer, you can always avoid trash games and/or get a refund. I own a total of 70 games now but I've play thousands of games. In the end, it's on you to find the games that are what you're looking for.

One of the greatest things about computer gaming is that it's vast and whatever your niche is, it probably exist and is waiting for you to dive in.

that's not true. games have been altered and destroyed from various decisions. at this point like with films there's nothing for normal pc gamers who have the best tastes. example. look at exalibur from the 80s vs the cosplay recent film about arthur. you guys will talk yourself into dispossesion.
