ResidentLeever: @escapist23 So which games do you actually like?
Good question.

He kind of eliminated everything. XD

I gave up any hope for him when he eliminated Tetris.

Does that answer your question? :P
Speaking of trash, are the Brits still paying the French to collect their trash?

I once played Tiberium Sun and there was a voice (in the game, not in my head) continuously repeating 'Insufficient fun'. Still, i kind of liked it :p

Edit: It actually said 'Insufficient funds' but then again, low funds in a strategy game = limited fun. Well, not necessarily aways, but who's a completist.

Now I want a game that has a voiceover saying "insufficient fun".

It would be a great ringtone for an unwelcome relative / work colleague, too.

PS I am a completist.

If I had unlimited funds in that game there'd be like 20 barracks/laser towers & pill boxes/massive fleets of tanks and planes/etc on the map....so many that they'd blot out the sun(if airborne).

You could add that line to a good number of the recent(last few years) indie titles added to the site. ;D

Most games are trash.

I would like a modern day AAA paranoia remake that advises that you should buy the game because it will make you happy... because happiness is mandatory. |:\

escapist23: In about 18 years of occasionally playing videogames, but trying a LOT of them, I realized that most games are just rubbish and nonsense. I have always kept looking for the 'next' incredible game, and never found it. The only ones that stood the test of time, to me, are very few and far between, and this is probably true of your cases as well. Probably a couple of games out of accurately selected dozens based on apparently great reviews. Interestingly, I always read first the NEGATIVE reviews, and I am always surprised how insightful they are: they quickly tell me of all the things I don't want in a game, either, and all the glaring defects. Most of these reviews are written by choosy and difficult 'gamers' like me, which are to me the most useful reviews, as they imply a certain amount of experience.

There's just so many games, but almost none that are truly worth spending dozens of hours on. Tons of quantity, but very little quality. Most of them have nonsense stories, no humour, no sense of tragedy, dumb characters, NPCs without personality, chaotic and messy battles, a zillion worthless items, etc. The only mostly high quality constant in them, are the soundtracks. I must say, especially PC games, have the most amazing soundtracks I have heard. And the graphics in most of the 'best' modern games are very pretty. But that's where it all ends, for me.

End of the rant :)
Yep monetization and capitalism that's where modern day games really started falling down the more boring ditch instead of the awesome rabbit hole.
I think the starkest point for me was Black & White 2 which would of been an awesome game, but was obviously and detrimentally (bug ridden mess after a certain point) decided it had so much value it should be cut in two so some of the content could be sold as an expansion.
It left the otherwise brilliant ahead of it's time game a broken mess.
Then Black & White 2 came and it was a consolized dumbed down piece of rubbish.

You want to know a game that has stood the test of time? For me it's road rage 2/3 both were awesome and nothing has captured that same feel since.
I actually have a more modern pc spinoff... the 3d is never done right completely ruining melee and people keep trying to put guns & grenades into the game *rolls eyes.

Consolized means to simplify a games UI & mechanics till you feel it could most likely be easily played using a xbox controller.
Considering consoles and pc's are being both changed to an amalgamated form of terrible walled online gardens requiring online portals that must be kept up to date, no doubt in the future the term will become obsolete.
An example of it of course would be the move by the windows OS from version 8 onwards trying to remake it's focus towards the tablet market for which it's menu was consolized in that it was dumbed down to flashy tiles requiring less keyboard use & ability to reading.
With the current games.. I feel im not a gamer anymore.. Only keep looking at my old game collection, the only few games are cyberpunk and subnautica that are still in the future.

And... diablo 2 remastered whenever it comes out. I just dont see any new games making me any interest in them. Maybe im not a gamer anymore?

I think "consolized" is a made up word so that people can blame a machine for the flaws of people.

That and using he term "tech demo" to apply to games one thinks are gimmicky/etc. I find many "consolized" games to be fun even with simplified controls/gameplay, and many "tech demos" to also be fun. :)
