karnak1: Sometimes we have good suprises. When I was younger I thought Chaos Gate was too dark and gloomy for my taste. And the UI seemed clunky - even back in those days.

When GOG recently launched it I was amazed to how good and playable it turned out to be.
Yeah there is the opposite as well and it's always a thrill, especially when age has made a game better.

I don't think anyone in this thread has the answer OP wants to hear. Strijkbout is bringing the most shiny glimmers of hope though ;-)

Maybe this is the opportunity for the forum to recommend some similar gOg games that look purtier than Myst. I personally have no idea of any, as that's not really a genre I play.

Seriously, the poor guy got hit with nostalgia let down and every one of us has suffered that. We have such fond memories of a game that was so big for us years and years ago and when we finally get a chance to revisit it we realize it hasn't aged well or it just flat out sucked to begin with and we were too young and stupid to realize it way back when. Sorry to say this, but if you were expecting some amazing graphics then it's your own fault for not doing your research before buying a game. This game is 15+ years old and it was pretty great for its age. It's still is if you're an adventurer type eager to play it.
Next time do your research before buying something.

isn't Miasmata a good contender ? I was under the impression it was a (relatively loose) spiritual successor to the genre, but I can't decisively confirm, for not having played it.

Edit : oh, and The vanishing of ethan carter definitely. I really think that would appease OP (I know it's not 'frame by frame', but it's gorgeous soooo ...).

The game is what it is, it's like playing on an old PC because it's an old game. You didn't expect the game's graphics to magically get better because you played it on a new PC did you?

Driver is 'meh' at best and LOTR only comes off as good because it's better than the movie which is kind of like saying, "He's smarter than that guy with Down Syndrome." :D

Indeed, videogames are awesome, especially the Myst and Baldur's Gate series, while wine is best avoided at all costs (I'll take a nice bitter ale any day).

jagged alliance is older

jagged alliance: 1994Strategy
jagged alliance: deadly games: 1995Strategy
jagged alliance 2: 1999Strategy

they all run smoothly on win7 i could even run my old retail versions with no patches on XP, i read lots of topics on the internet that win8x seemed to have more troubles with old games compared to win7.

I think thats why msoft will use only win 10.
Old windows were: win95, win98se, win ME win2k win Xp win vista win7 and win8
i read all the previews and gamers reviews regarding all these OS, and decided to skip the ones i underlined.
As for the win 10, that will also be postponed till the absolutely last minute.
When i am old grey and retired i will only remember 3 windows: win98se win xp win7.

I cant agree with that. :P Also I meant it in the sense that wine usually improves with age.

I know what you meant, but I'm in of the opinion that all wine tastes awful regardless of age.
