last night i changed my avatar, some 12 hrs later it is still blank.
is this normal or don't they change on w;ends....

Caching server likes to take its time. Your howling wolf should appear properly in a few hours, unless they messed up the whole thing again. Just wait and it should appear though.

In the meantime, you can see your new avatar if you log out (or log in with a different account), go to a post you've made, and move the mouse cursor over to your old avatar to the left of your post.

Alternatively, look for a post that quotes you (like this one); you will see your new avatar there.
