The only way Doom 2016 is set in the same 'universe' as Doom 2 is if it's an alternate reality jump the Doom guy is doing.

Which might be the case. The game was, imho, left intentionally vague and plays around with references.
avatar
hedwards: Also, do yourself a favor and ignore the word "Doom" in the title. The game plays far better if you forget that it's allegedly a sequel to Doom 2 set in the same universe.

GameRager: Wait.....isn't it a reboot of the series? o.0

(Like Doom 2016 or whatever year that one was)
Theoretically, that's probably true. In practice neither are really true as it's effectively a completely different genre from the previous games.

It's not a bad game, it's just not a Doom game.

Sure it is. It's a, imho, great modern take on it and certainly more of a Doom game than 3 was. Not saying 3 was bad... love it... but it was very different.

Brainfart edit.....I thought you were talking about D3.

Doom 3 is a reboot yeah, retells the "story" of the first one, as much of a story as there was. Doom 2016 on the other hand... I think it's a sequel to the first two, personally. Just too many references and hints to that for it not to be.

Well yeah, 2016 has Mars being habitable iirc......that would indicate it's set after Doom 1/2 or after 3.

It doesn't work... unless Doom 2016 involves time travel or alternate realities.

The UAC is a big part of the Doom 1/2 storyline and if Doom 2016 is a sequel it means in the distant past there was a company named UAC performing teleportation experiments. The original Doom games happened, the marine was captured by the forces of hell and then awoke 'eons' later to find the UAC (in the late 2100s) is again doing experiments.

Excuse me...? What's with the knights sentinels?

It just doesn't work as a sequel unless the Doom Slayer has hopped realities like BioShock Infinite. That might entirely be the case... I just don't see how people claim Doom 2016 fits as a continuation of Doom 2. If it fits as any story continuation it would be as a continuation of Doom 64 which ended with the Doom Marine stuck/staying in Hell.

I never really invested myself in Doom 2's story, so I'll trust you know the particulars more than I do. I just know Doom 2016 picks up after the Doom Marine already had adventures battling demons and whatnot, and uses imagery from those first games. So it's not the beginning of the story, whatever it is.

A lot of the story of Doom 2016 is up to interpretation. Some people are convinced the Doom Slayer was the betrayer who made a deal with the demons to revive his son only to be betrayed by a 'twisted wish' that turned his son into the Icon of Sin. This explains his 'rage' at the demons. Others believe he was one of the knight sentinels featured later in the story. Others that the Doom Slayer is the same hero from every game who keeps reliving the events after hopping realities through hell.

Personally, I love how they handled it and I'm eager to see what they do with the lore in Doom Eternal.

More excited about blasting demons.

But lore will be (hopefully) cool too.

All this makes me want to finally finish Doom 2016

As for the universe/setting: I wish we'd see an alternate i.e. a "heaven" of sorts come into play.....I mean it'd only be logical for both to exist if one does, right? o.0

Why haven't you!? Fricken' loved it. More than just a game to me... it was the validation that 90s style balls-to-the-wall no-story shooters can still sell in this day and age.

That's going to be part of Doom Eternal. There was also a DLC map for the first game in a 'heaven' location.

1. The PS4 I have is mostly owned/used by other family members and they dictate when I can use it(being mostly theirs and all).....right now we're at an impasse and I cannot afford a new PS4 atm so I have to wait sadly. :(

(Also the bloody ps4's controller has all them odd buttons to remember, the game has a ton of menus to navigate, and some areas are WAY too open to remember all that i've done...which makes it hard to play for completionists like myself)

2. Sounds good.

Spartanwarrior117: can the originals on here be updated with mods or no?

as for doom 3 what should i type in to find it?
.
avatar
TheMonkofDestiny: Someone else already covered it but you are free to take the WAD files from Ultimate Doom, etc. and use them in any source port you like. If you stick to the DOSBox setup then you won't be able to run certain mods since a lot of them are made with features that aren't in the default DOSBox configurations the games are currently sold in.

As to what thread to look for as far as the Doom 3 pk4 files go, it should be the thread titled dhewm3.
cool, had no idea dosbox doesn't have features for that, sweet. good to know.

thank you for your help. i found the thread its the first post after you click search.

im also curious, would you know anything about the error code 1625 where it says system forbid policy thing after you type in the cd key and when finish installation?

has the dhewm3 project been updated to play the newer mods yet or can you play any mod? there was also some slow loading issue with it, has that been fixed?

thank you.

I can't help with the error since it's never happened to me, sorry.

As to the source port being updated - if you downloaded the latest version off its Github page, then that's it. It should run most non-BFG specific Doom 3 mods and maps.

As far as the slow loading goes - last time I played through the game using the port (which was late last year) I didn't notice any loading trouble. I had a crash but that was related to how old my OS is. If a loading bug is there, I couldn't tell you I'm afraid.

no worries. i figured i would ask about that, but thanks.

cool, good to know about mods.

didn't think bugs could get into browsers too. good to know.

im just curious, where is the dhewm3 folder located in the file explorer?
