It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I realize that this question is unrelated to GOG.com, but I honestly don't know where else to look for answers. I've tried countless forums relating to Firefox and Windows, and I still haven't received an answer to my question.

That being said, does anyone know how to remove the favicons from the bookmark menu in Firefox or Microsoft Edge? (Here's an article explaining favicons if you don't know what they are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon) To make a long story short, I hate looking at the little icons in my bookmarks menu, so I was hoping for a way to get rid of them. I've tried countless extensions, different browsers, and endless tweaking in both Windows 'config' and Firefox settings. Nothing seems to work! I am beyond frustrated with the problem, so any help would be very much appreciated!

No offense but we can't point you at a solution when we don;t know what you tried.

My first step always is this:

https://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+remove+icons+from+bookmarks

I see lots of pages describing solutions but again, without knowing what you tries, we're pretty much just wasting our time.

I'm not complaining because we all appreciate what you do for this place, but I gotta know, do you ever sleep? :P
Classic Theme Restorer add-on used to work for Firefox, no clue if it still does.

No clue about Edge.

Fair enough, but I don't think I could possibly tell you everything that I've tried, because I've literally tried dozens of so called 'fixes'. I think the only way this could work is if someone knows of a solution that they have tried themselves, and have been successful. If someone has managed to remove their own favicons, then I'd love to give it a try.

I;m at the office. Some of my clients are more adult in nature that I cant work on at the library.

I walk the building to make sure everyone is out while I'm here as the alarms set at 9pm.

Unfortunately that's not compatible with the current Firefox.

I actually had the problem solved for quite some time using the following solution: https://www.ghacks.net/2009/05/11/how-to-remove-favicons-in-firefox-bookmarks/

However, ever since Firefox switched to the latest version, the fix has been broken, and I'm back to square one. Normally I would simply go back to the old version, but that version is MUCH slower than the current version, and there are a number of features that I like a lot more in the latest version. It looks like I'm running out of options.

The change over to quantum has caused a lot of issues which I have a feeling is part of your problem. May just want to wait a month or so and then see if anyone has upgraded their plugins and/ or fixes.

And with that, I'm going home. Never did get my chicken for lunch....

Considering both of the folks who I used to give money to to put my into my wallet are no longer able to do so, I have to admit that I'm rethinking my time here. The lack of response to a couple of issues from staff is also on my mind.

1. Go to your Firefox profile folder.

Press [Windows Key]+[R] → Type in %APPDATA% → click OK

A Windows Explorer window will open, showing the contents of the C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming folder.
You can then open successive folders until you get to the profile folder.

2.Then go to the chrome folder there, creating it if necessary.

C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[yourprofile].default\chrome\

3. In the chrome folder, create a plain text file named userChrome.css

Copy and paste the following.

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once in

userChrome.css */

/* use this to hide the icons */
#PlacesToolbarItems > .bookmark-item > .toolbarbutton-icon {display:none!important}

Thanks for the replies! I'll keep plugging away to find an answer.

I appreciate the help, but unfortunately that only removed the icons from my bookmarks toolbar, but not from my actual bookmarks menu. Although that's as close as I've gotten with the process so far! :)

Are there any other suggestions for how to fix the problem?

.bookmark-item .menu-iconic-left {
/* removes the entire "icon" space left of the bookmark text in menus */
display: none !important;
}

.bookmark-item .menu-iconic-icon {
/* just removes just the icon from bookmarks in the menus, not necessary if the above is used */
display: none !important;
}

.bookmark-item .toolbarbutton-icon {
/* removes icons from bookmark tool bar */
display: none !important;
}

EDIT:
The first of those three (removing the icon space entirely) shouldn't be used on Windows (at least with the default theme), because there seems to be a border between the icon and text which isn't removed (it's part of the background), so it looks really bad when the text crosses said border.

This looks helpful, but I'm not sure what I should be doing with this information. Do you have a file you can attach with the information already typed in? I hope I'm not being demanding, but I'm not entirely sure what to do with this information.

The file is the same you already used (you said what you did only removes the icons in the bookmark toolbar, so I just assumed you'd see that my code is similar and belongs in there as well). Just copy the code and paste my code in there. At least the second of those three bits. The last you already tried (and, as the comment says, is used for the bookmark toolbar).

EDIT: If you don't use userChrome.css for anything else, just remove the entire contents of that file, then copy the second and third of the three rules in my post and paste into that file, finally close the browser and start it up again.
