BlackMageJ: Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt?
Very little text in general, as it's a throwback game styled after Spectrum-era graphics, and while you can choose to marry any NPC, Remedy has an ex-girlfriend and reconciling with her is implied to be the canon ending.

EDIT: There is a DRM-free download on the Remar website.
Oh, right. Also, maybe, Mighty Jill Off (Freeware), although it's pretty cartoonish and not so serious.
Gone Home.

Not my kind of game but I think it's what you're looking for.

She wants something with "decent" gameplay, not just an adventure or walking simulator.
As usual with dtgreene's requests, she has such an extensive list of required features that it will be pretty much impossible to come up with anything. The kind of games she's looking for don't exist.

I hope any of those racist and sexist games focusing on the superficial gets recognized as woke, and go broke.

Genital Jousting, that's all I have.
A physical copy of Last of Us (Remastered)

On PC, though? Nothing comes to mind. Games such as Stardew Valley allow LGBTQ relationships, but in most cases the sex of your character doesn't influence the narrative at all... I think Leah's ex is the only thing that changes.

Except that I mentioned 3 games that actually fit my criteria in the first post.

I've never heard of those games, so they can't be important. And most other users here didn't come up with much either.
avatar
dtgreene: Does anybody have any recommendations for games that fit these criteria?
* Game must have prominent LGBTQ characters, and the game must not present them in a strictly negative or offensive light.
* Game must have a significant gameplay component that isn't just scripted. In particular, I don't want any virtual novels, kinetic novels (if you even consider them to be games in the first place), or pure adventure games.
* The game has to be at least decent from a gameplay perspective.
* There needs to be a DRM-free release of the game.
* Bonus points if the game's author is LGBTQ, but that, in itself, is not sufficient. (For example, Bard's Tale 3 and Dragon Wars, as good as those games are, are not what I am looking for.)

Currently, I have Timespinner (metroidvania) and Ikenfell (JRPG) from GOG, ad Celeste from itch.io . Does anybody have any other recommendations?

(If you are somehow offended by the idea of such games existing, or of me even asking this question, please refrain from posting in this topic.)

Edit: Come on. Did this post *really* deserve a low rating?
CP 2077 has a very nice Transgender woman Who gives you a racing side quest.

On an unrelated note, have you seen the Watch on BBC? The unit's doc, Cheery is quite a pleasant character thus far.

You haven't heard of Celeste?

No, I haven't. But tbf I don't play many new games anyway.

Well, if you're into precision platformers and want a new game to check out, I highly recommend it. (TW: anxiety)

It's available in itch.io

dtgreene:
Thx, but I'm too slow for platformers. Also have never bought anything at itch.io and don't want to start, I'm trying to unclutter my life.
You like what you like but why do the games have to have prominent characters like that? Nothing against it except that you're severely limiting your selection. I'm a little picky, myself, but not that picky. Since you like "metroidvania" games, maybe check out Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Not sure about the orientation of the characters. It's DRM-free, though.

I'd say I was disappointed by some of the replies here, but I don't know why I expected better.

People like to be represented and such representations are few and far between. Personally I'll play whatever regardless.

It's safe to say that dtgreene is not limiting herself to only those games, but just wants to know if there are any games in that sort of vein. I don't think your fears of her limiting herself in that way should be a concern.

However, given the way several people in this thread have stated that they would never play anything with any prominent queer characters, I'd say your concerns do apply to them. I think it's safe to say the vast majority of queer people read/watch/play plenty of things with straight main characters, so it seems rather strange for a straight player to only want to play games with straight characters.
