The recent Hitman release spells doom (pun intended) for this release. Expect this to require a Bethesda.net account for multiplayer/add ons. That is, if these modes don't get removed from the gog version entirely. Frankly, at this point I'm not sure which is the greater evil. Having to be online for multiplayer don't change much, gotta be online one way or the other. Having to sign up for a Bethesda account sucks, but I guess that's how they handle crossplay. What does boil my piss is the requirement of an account to download and access add ons - this is completely arbitrary bullshit, especially since all that stuff (at this point it's just a 90MB download for Q64 anyway) is stored on your computer anyway. If gog wants to go the extra mile (and at this point it would help to generate some customer goodwill), they could make separate installers for add ons for the gog version.

afaik, a uPlay account was required for an Anno game here before servers shut down, and a Paradox account is required for some Paradox multiplayer and/or online features here, so that's believable.

However, you do need a Paradox Account to challenge other players in 1v1 multiplayer matches and to redeem unlock codes for Kickstarter Backer or Pre-Order DLC."

As someone not interested in multiplayer and not necessarily add-ons, I won't get too upset but I understand if others do. I guess the add-ons could be really interesting for the single-player experience. (all this assuming we don't get another Hitman situation where the majority of the single-player game requires a Bethesda account...)

Here's the thing: GOG obviously felt bold enough to allow Hitman through in its current state. What does that say about who they're trying to get money from? Are most GOG users using Galaxy even though Steam is superior in many ways (or they're using both for whatever reason)? We don't really know, do we...

It's weird: GOG will die if they drop DRM-free, the only feature setting them apart from the competition, but also, users who care about DRM-free are such a minority here that GOG can pretty easily alienate them.

I don't know what the release will be, I truly hope with all my soul that it won't require online. I'm only asking: Am I supposed to wait 7 years for the update? Around 36 days passed from the 1st message on this topic, no release still.
