Music still there. In almost LOSSLESS format - combo Data+Audio CD and .cda tracks (to be true lossless - it should be whole 700 mb only of .cda, because music - second after "Data" data).

There is NO builds with OGG for Quake 1. They remove it BEFORE release on GOG, when compile first (and only) offline Quake 1 setup file. That thread created at 0day when released - first thread in forum (+\- maybe even before release), but installer itself is a little bit earlier (a day? check digital sign, i dont have downloaded it right now, else Quake games have offline+online builds a day before GOG releases, usually it have more days for other games).

It can be true what they said, but it still looks they literally lie there. GOG always prefers DosBox (and more - only ScummVM wrongly compiled with games) versions.

Hurray we've passed a full week of waiting and recieving nothing. Well, I'm not waiting any longer and will get the Steam version now. Don't announce things to be available here when you can't make sure they are available in time. I'm tired of this shit.

Unless you are specifically in need of an offline installer, better to get everything elsewhere cheaper, faster updates, bigger selection etc.

GoG appear to be waiting on Bethesda to provide them with the build.

SmollestLight said that GoG have been told that the Enhanced Edition will be made available here, and that there will be an announcement when it's available. He did not say that it was available here right now.

I'm not sure what else you would have preferred to happen. GoG could have remained silent until they knew exactly when it was coming here - in which case the forum would be filled with threads going "This is outrageous - GoG don't have the enhanced edition!!!". They clearly either don't have a finalised date from the publisher, or aren't comfortable releasing that date yet (which could either be due to an NDA or could be that they're not convinced that the date will be met).

Basically, whatever GoG do would upset someone; in this case, I think they did the right thing by saying "It's coming - stay tuned for more news". Of course, if you can't wait and have literally no other games that you could be playing right now, it's your choice if you want to buy from Steam.

This is exactly the problem. Don't announce that the update will be here on GOG when you haven't recieved any word from the developer or publisher about when it will be available. Just make sure you can drop a date in your announcement post.

Yes we know now that it will be coming and that's cool. But when? It could be tomorrow, it could be next week, it could be in a year or it could be that the message GOG recieved was just some "we might be looking into this" message and there is actually no confirmation and no update coming (Doom 64 was Nightdive/Bethesda too and they never cared to make it available here) at the moment.

I just don't believe at this point that we will be getting this update/new version any time soon and the fact that nobody has given us any news since it was announced to be here doesn't make this feeling go away.

Also at some point I might want to play this in co-op with a friend and right now we don't know yet how the whole multiplayer stuff will work once GOG finally has recieved the update. It wouldn't be the first time that a game would for example only be playable in mp between users on GOG and nowhere else (no crossplay) or would come with other features removed.

It wouldn't hurt if SmollestLight or anyone else could just give us more information so we know what's going on.

Uh the message confirmed that the update is coming. So quake enhanced is going to happen on gog on and some. It is very clear on this subject. After that is the date. Its can be in the future days, weeks or months. But less than a year it's over as they said, the work is in progress and even being finalized.
Yay at least it's confirmation we'll get it. Thanks for bringing it over.
I'd rather GoG make even more official, forums-only announcements like that going forward.
An official confirmation that something will eventually show up on GoG is still better than an unofficial or no confirmation at all.

SmollestLight: As you may have noticed, Quake® Enhanced (updated and visually enhanced version of the original) is available on Steam since Aug 19th. We're in talks with the publisher and have their confirmation that the GOG version of the update is currently being finalised, and will be available on GOG.COM. We'll be sure to let you know when that happens.
GOG users who already own Quake will automatically receive the new enhanced version with a free download.
Can you please update us as to when this should be arriving? We are heading into the second weekend.

Halfway through episode 2 on the Steam version and it's a really nice version. That said if you've used source ports and music patches before I don't think you're missing anything mindblowing by waiting for GOG. It's just a good solid version of that, made simple to download and play.
New 5th expansion, Dimension of the Machine, is really nice, Dimension of the Past, the 4th expansion, is also included.

Quake Anniversary on KEX engine requires some patching though, especially for weapon bobble while jumping down from any height, it's so bad. I also don't understand the reason why I can't hit F2 to save like I used to, and press "+" or "-" for hud size change. Nightmare now limits your health capabilities to 50 hp unless you come across the mega health, which for some reason respawns after some time (I registered at least 4 cases in Episodes 1-2). And I don't know if GOG will get the achievements but for those of you hunting for 100% perfection good luck with The Painless Maze ;)

Everything else is almost good except for colored lighting, I was expecting the same approach as in Quake 64 and later community packs with colored lights, check the link if you're interested:

I agree: that new episode is really cool.

You can change the quicksave and quickload buttons in the "kexengine.cfg" file. Search for

bind f5 "*menu_quicksave"
bind f9 "*menu_quickload"

and change them to whatever you like.

Also when you use scr_screenscale in the console you can change the HUD size (value 1–4)

The health change to 50 hp in Nightmare difficulty is based on that Copper Quake mod.

Granted, I have this all on Steam - so I don't know what's in GOG's current edition of Quake: The Offering.

Dimensions of the Past [Official Episode 4] can be downloaded over here, just in case it ain't included in Quake: The Offering (i.e. the current GOG version of Quake).

GOG players would currently be missing Dimensions of the Machine (new Official Episode 5), as that's in the New Re-Release (Quake: Enhanced).

Curious: Have you played the new episode DotM yet? If so, how is it?

Has Dimensions of the Machine support been added by anyone to say work w/ the old versions of Quake: The Offering and/or their Source Ports yet?

1) Quake: The Offering already included both official expansion packs (Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity) as well as the music in image file format.

2) I think Dopa was updated a bit for this new Enhanced version. Can't confirm that but I've heard some people talk about that.

3) So far I've played through 5 maps and they all have been a lot of fun. The fights are well designed (no bullshit combination of enemies so far) and the level geo is awesome (some parts must have been a real nightmare to create). Compared to Dopa I would say this is a massive step up in all regards.

4) No there is no support for Dimensions of the Machine at the moment outside of Quake Enhanced. Maybe at some point in the future.

First of all, thanks for responding!

Second of all, and then some, as I respond to your 4 points...

1. Good to know about GOG's version. Thanks for that.

2. That's interesting about DOPA. I have DOPA for the Source Port, but never played there. And of course, I've been messing w/ it in the Re-Release. I'm gonna have to check the Old Version out too!

3. Good to know. When I'm done w/ DOPA (in Quake: Enhanced), I'll have to check out DoTM.

4. Thanks for that. Hopefully, someone will add support for that, so I can run that in Source Ports and outside of the Quake Enhanced Rerelease.
