KetobaK: I'm not so mad with GOG but with Bethesda, Quake GOG Version was the best available before the enhanced edition arrived and many people bought it here, I can even risk to say that there is the version most people bought, but they just don't care at all and leave us at the bottom of the barrel.
Yep, I've purchased it twice, once on disc, once here at GOG.
I'm not going to purchase Quake again, even though its kind of my favorite game.
I'll hang out for the update to appear here, but I'm not going to buy it at Steam or Epic etc.
I'd maybe pay something here for the update, but not much.
One way or another I will eventually get it.

I guess if they are going to bring it here as a freebie, then they have no great motivation to hurry up about it. Probably an exercise in milking right now, and we probably won't get it until they are sated enough with that.

Would make a great Xmas Present though ... and one can always hope.

I agree, Quake is the one of the best games to play on Christmas holidays. There are quite a few Quake Chrismas Jam level packs for Quake. Everyone says Darkplaces is the best engine and I say it's Quakespasm-Spiked (modified Quakespasm), I also really liked FitzQuake Mark V by Baker for it's authentic weapon models bobbing and properly done crosshair 2 but it lacks full support for Arcane Dimensions and it's been a while since the last update.

Don't feed the troll. He's been being an annoyance around the Quake Enhanced thread supporting the never-coming release and insulting other users throwing cheap bait (Like what has been doing here).

Iif you engage him, it will only make you angry and you will risk a moderator closing the thread.

You don't need for most of these packs Arcane Dimensions (IIRC, the Haloween Jam from last year was like that and it already included Arcane Dimensions -not the maps, but the weapons/enemies/balance changes/etc). Still, Arcane Dimensions is the best thing Quake has seen in years, so it wont hurt to download and play it.

Btw, Alkaline and Alkjam (Alkaline map jam) are the next best thing this year has seen, specially if you like the "base" maps, as it is an expansion on that style.

While it absolutely SHOULD come here and it would be BS if it doesn't, I think if you use a popular source port you're not really missing much honestly.

On that note, Arcane Dimensions borrows many of its enemies from Hexen 2.

Last time I heard popular source port Quakespasm could handle Quake (2021) and its expansion campaigns but with some issues, most of them were solved in latest version but I'm not sure that all new weapon and monster models (plus the animation) are ready to go.

That new campaign is really good even if a bit short and GOG users can't play it without having the remastered version of Quake, so in this case they are missing much.

It's really annoying to know that Steam users completed all the new levels months ago while GOG users have to wait for that update, that is not fair. And I don't know about prices, I remember that Bethesda's Doom games had higher prices than on Steam, not sure about Quake though they released on the same day.

I'm a Steam user as well and bought id Anthology games bundle a long time ago but still I'm peeved about this.

Lord_Kane: Its likely that GOG talked to some rando at Bethseda and they forgot to pass the word, or ND/ZM or Beth is waiting till the update hits a certain stage or for NDS' side some releases happen first and it opens up some space to prepare a gog version of the update, sadly we may never know.

it will either come or it won't

but personally I think GOG may have jumped the gun asked the wrong person at Beth, they said "sure?" and then made the announcement.

Would be nice to as Ketobak said to hear some official word but as usual GOG being a uncommunicative monolith is not surprising and kinda expected at this point.

Ya Beth is kinda one of those that leaves gog as second fiddle who knows though time will tell, I personally dont care since I just use quakespasm-spiked and that was recently made compatible with the new stuff from the enhanced edition, well the new episode by machine games at least. but I do hope for those that are waiting it comes at least by the start of spring, but who knows at this point.

Can i play the level packs against bots in single player mode ?

DD & Ji Ji: Can i play the level packs against bots in single player mode ?
I have no idea, I never tried that on Quakespasm or Mark V and I never tried any mods on Quake KEX either. So I would wait for you to try and report back.

Oh,yeah? I bought the Heretic/Hexen pack one year ago (Hope they don't get remastered) but I haven't been able to get around all the games yet. I thought they were 3D models of the originals form Heretic, but it make more sense they just grabbed the models from Hexen 2, which shares the graphic engine, lol.

The campaign is fully playable on both Quakespasm and Quakespasm Spiked, the only issue you need to know is that you need a "localization" folder under the mg1 folder so the port knows where to find the texts. There was some projects to port the monster models, but I can't recall if it was completed, a work in progress or how was going, but it should be completely doable.

Indeed Quakespasm-Spiked is one of the best ports out there but I also like vkQuake very much with Vulkan-API support: https://github.com/Novum/vkQuake
It runs very smooth.

If you want to check some of the best mods out there, here:
https://www.moddb.com/news/quake-remaster-released

My favorite mod of all time is still Slayer's Testaments. It combines Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal in one mod, so nice. Runs good with Quakespasm-Spiked, I could only manage to make an older version of Slayer's Testaments (with patch 4) work with vkQuake so far sadly. If you need the download links, here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/slayers-testament/downloads
The creator and developer of Slayer's Testaments said that he will also work on a version for Quake Enhanced. Would be so nice if we would get the Enhanced version of Quake at GOG.

Have also a great XmasQuake holiday, mate :).

Yeah that sounds like typical Bethesda behaviour, I was surprised to see a confirmation of a GOG release at all in the first place.

Thanks for the info, and I have checked some of those out in the past.
Sounds good.

Enjoy your Quakefest holiday at Xmas too bud. :)

But has Quake 64, Horde Mode, and Dimension of the Machine (new episode) and whatnot been ported over to other Source Ports?

See, that's the issue here - Quake: Offering on GOG is incomplete now, thanks to Beth-Soft and MachineGames updating this classic w/ Quake Enhanced/Remastered/whatever you wanna call it on Steam, Epic, and Bethesda.Net.
