MysterD: also removed the Bethesda.Net Requirement.
Once again, there is NO requirement for singlepayer (see my posts above).

Ruvika: I just checked Nightdive Discord Channel and one mod said that "Nightdive or Bethesda never made such a statement". We should ask GOG or Bethesda.
It would be great if somebody of GOG Staff can answer to this thread, so we can avoid to create several tickets on the support channel.
Accordingly to the original post of Smollest Light, they where in talks with the publisher (Bethesda) so maybe they could give us more info.

This is rubbish. That mobile screenshot is not evidence, it's not even half-way believable. Only a fool would believe that nonsense as presented.

The screenshot is legit. Is on their discord server, publicly available to anyone who wants to get in and do the minimal effort of looking it up.

Here, a screenshot I just took from my computer after joining the server for the first time.

Worth remembering Limited Run did not do a physical PC version of their Quake release due to Bethseda not wanting a DRM-Free version of the game on the market. So, there you go!

There's a link to the channel where the messages are, use it and see it for yourself.

I guess you are just part of the group of people who for some reason have been trolling on Quake's thread against people asking what's going on and it will be better to ignore you.

Cheers.

Okay, getting super-technical here; fair enough.

But the checks are still here.

It still pops up (Beth-Net checks) when the game loads in this new version. Sure, you can skip it and all - but I don't think GOG allows that junk here.

Also, for mods - you need to use Bethesda.Net account to grab them in-game, which I also doubt would fly here on GOG.

I still would guess: Bethesda might bring this here to GOG way later, whenever the heck they finish w/ doing Quake 1 Remastered updates for patches and adding stuff to their mod section. Who knows when that could be, w/ the way they going though - as their last update on Steam and Epic added more content from MachineGame.

This way, when Quake 1 Remaster is done w/ its run and all & everything's collected and they don't gotta keep updating the GOG version all the time; they just straight port it here and pull all the Bethesda.Net annoyances (at start menu) and the requirement to grab "mods" from them directly w/ a Beth.Net account.

Troll is it? That's the best response you can muster? A sad little insult?

BTW, there is this.

See the attached screenshot..

Considering that the Epic Store release just happened, the GOG version is next. It's sad, but GOG is often last in the release schedule.

Any questions?

Yes, how it's different?

If you go to PCGamingWiki website for Quake (2021) game here:
www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Quake_(2021)

and click on a link in front of GOG (unavailable) it will redirect you to the same GOG announcement thread from August 2021:
https://www.gog.com/forum/quake_series/quake_enhanced_update/post1

What does that prove?

I mean, if it's optional and perfectly skipable, I don't mind at all, but I know some users find that unacceptable here on GOG.

I do have this on Steam and Bethesda Store already.

So, yes - when it hits main menu, it does a Beth.Net check. I wish there was a way to disable it, as it is annoying.
For the mods part - to download them, you do need a Beth.Net check.

I would guess, most here on GOG would object to both.

I got it for free via Bethesda's platform (since I owned the game prior due to a giveaway) but I'd 100% buy it here if Bethesda would actually release it here. I love Bethesda's games but I'm not happy with the way they've been so pro-DRM in recent years.

Lord_Kane: Its likely that GOG talked to some rando at Bethseda and they forgot to pass the word, or ND/ZM or Beth is waiting till the update hits a certain stage or for NDS' side some releases happen first and it opens up some space to prepare a gog version of the update, sadly we may never know.

it will either come or it won't

but personally I think GOG may have jumped the gun asked the wrong person at Beth, they said "sure?" and then made the announcement.

Would be nice to as Ketobak said to hear some official word but as usual GOG being a uncommunicative monolith is not surprising and kinda expected at this point.
I'm not so mad with GOG but with Bethesda, Quake GOG Version was the best available before the enhanced edition arrived and many people bought it here, I can even risk to say that there is the version most people bought, but they just don't care at all and leave us at the bottom of the barrel.
