MysterD: If they want to do MP here over on GOG for Quake: Enhanced, they'll probably have to re-work the MP to use Galaxy or say add some kind of LAN/TCP-IP support. Dunno if I see any of that happening, TBH - but if they decide to do that, it's gonna take $, resources, and time for someone to do so.

pds41: To be honest, I only want Bethesda and NightDive to release the single player content here. I prefer to play Quake using the original engine or my source port of choice, but would like to legitimately own the additional episode.

If I want to play multiplayer, I've got the original version (and quite frankly, I don't like playing against random 12 year olds over the internet anyway)
Well I think everyone in this thread knows that playing Quake via a source port that's been worked on for many years by dedicated people (like Dark Places) is going to be better in every way than whatever port Night Dive cooked up for the Enhanced. It think it's more like about GOG's version being the same as Steam's.

These Enhanced versions of games that have already had their source code available for many years are mostly for ultra-newbies who are too dumb/lazy to extract a zip file into a game directory.

Don't forget the updated Dimensions of the Past and Dimensions of the machine that were added for free and we can't get (without re-purchasing the game or...) because they are exclusive for this version.

And (as a software developer), don't underestimate (Overestimate?) the medium user lack of knowledge on technical topics. I have no problems on setting up a Quake or GZDoom installation that is compatible with mods and all that stuff (way easier on Quake, I have to admit, but more configurable on GZDoom), but for the average user having to mess around with even just a little shortcut parameter is "too much work."

It's a bit sad, but it is how it is, and its part of what makes me earn money, so I'm not gonna complain, lol.

Bethesda is retiring their Bethesda Launcher, but almost all of their games will still require a login with a Bethesda account, so probably nothing will change for this supposed Quake Enhanced Edition.

Eh possibly but it depends on why one needs such.. As plenty of games on here I seen need logins for other accounts for multiplayer or minor stuff like fan content .. if its that kind of content gated behind a login atleast single player is viable for the Bethesda games ..

I bought it on epic its drm free there

You still are supporting epic and the epic store Aswell as a drmed platform and encouraging companies to wait way longer to release games elsewhere for double dipping..

Really Epic is in a way worse then Steam given Epics sorta nutjob head in the first place when the launcher was made was throwing tantrumings and bribing gave devs to go full on exclusive or timed exclusive thus pulling games sometimes weeks before the Steam release was meant to a happen.. So I really can't help but say Epic and its launcher is not worth supporting where as Steam despite my hate for drm atleast can understand getting games from it as Steam hadn't pull that kind of nonesense .. a different kind of nonesense but nothing that stupid

You clearly are missing the piont both are drmed platforms first and formost .. Epic has quite bad rep too from the shit that was pulled behind the scenes early on .. Steam is bad too but atleast not as bad .. While supporting drm and scheme factors is bad in general .. Its also why companies wait till sales are so dried up everywhere else till they drop games here and thus hope for double dippers aswell as new comers to get the games .. Which usually is a surefire thing.. Which is what myself and others take issiu with saying'' Already bought game at X drmed platform'' While many don't take issiu if it was mentioned as gotten purely as a freebie factor

When a game is drm free on epic and not on steam why should i buy it on steam? This applies either to days gone and death stranding for example. The only thing i dont like about epic is the exclusivity thing but why should someone buy a game twice if the game has drm on steam. Both are just launchers and if a game like sifu comes out and i want to play it,why should i wait for the steam version?I dont care about valve like they dont care about me

You do realize as long as its bought from a store thats drmed and needs a basically work around to play it without the launcher its drmed no matter the fact.. I ain't sure about Epic but the issiu is the same or similar if a work around is needed to ditch the launcher.. Plus again is supporting the scheme and drm storefronts even if the game doesn't need the launcher its bought on to run.. thats the issue here and problem you are missing in logical thinking

As games that only have a optional launcher thats not needed for it and don't need the launcher to download is only when its truly DRM free .. you are at best usually when talking say Steam and from what I here of Epic''Psuedo-drm-free ''or ''soft drmed''

The game is playable without the launcher thats good enough for me.Once its downloaded its drm free and yours to keep

Steam and Epic are the defacto, and despite what you and I and many others who come to GOG want, we are never going to change that fact, GOG will never change that fact, so you are only penalizing yourself, as it has nothing to do realistically with encouraging ... it is going to happen regardless.

Instead, take advantage and get the DRM-Free Lite offerings at Epic and Steam, when they are free. Neither the DEV or those stores are getting your money, so all you are doing is sending a message you will grab for free, especially if DRM-Free.

Too many folk here, like yourself, make it an issue of GOG versus Epic or GOG versus Steam etc, when you all should be focusing on DRM-Free versus DRM.

If you want to make a difference that's where you start, with something you can change.

Mine is notr Gog vs *insert other storefronts*'' mine is ''drm-free vs drm'' and to me its a greater penalization to buy a drmed product no matter what rather then the same thing but drm-free so its worth waiting to get rather then buy quicker and have a drmed product in any actual way .. Having a drmed product as a freebie is fine though.. but not full bought

Please define “multiplayer or minor stuff like fan content”. What about one level, perhaps a weapon or enemy, maybe just some concept drawings, where do you decide drm/control starts and stops? Just interested as the scope of what some people accept not user controlled apparently varies wildly.

My point was this.... i would always choose gog and itchi etc over any other store but....if death stranding is drm free on epic but has drm on steam which version should i choose here?I backed the game up and its totally playable without a launcher and since its not available on gog there is no other or better option
