Yeah, uhm, I can't play first person games for longer periods of time. Neither can others, like tinyE.

I've played the shit out of the Cyberpunk 2020 P&P back in 1993+ and was fully ready to buy an entirely new rig for Cyberpunk 2077.

Now I won't.

No whining intended, just throrough disappointment. I mean, I have to set my hopes on Beyond Good & Evil 2 now. How depressing is that.

While I don't have a problem with first-person I sympathise fully. The new Cyan (Myst dev) project sounds like it's going to be VR only and that's pretty disappointing news to me as I love Cyan's games.
I just hope that by the time Cyberpunk is released I have a PC that can run Witcher 3 :D

Grargar: Nothing wrong with an RPG having a first-person perspective.

At the same time, nothing wrong with people complaining that it lacks a first-person perspective just because "OMG, it's the next RPG from CDPR and you are getting worked up over nothing?!/1!1?!"
Well as long as I can see all of my body parts when I look down or which ever way I'm looking at then I'm cool with fpp. Also if I play as a female and go up to a large mirror I want to look behind to see my ass.

Heh.

First person makes me sick. Not "ew I don't like it", I mean it can actually kill me and nearly did.

Now, in tabletop, it's bad design when A is good at X and B can counter that by being bad at X (it messes up balance, and character advancement, and spotlight, and rewards, and many other things you'd normally want in a cooperative game). As applied to specifically cyberpunk (not necessarily '20 or '77), it means you shouldn't be able to counter hacking by being offline, and authors have to come up with various ways to harm a non-cybered person with software. One of the more common ways is flashing patterns at people that fuck up their brains / cause seizures / hypnotize / whatever.

Which is to say, if 2077 kills me, it'd be delightfully cyberpunky.
I prefer "no person".

In Ultimate Avengers you have to play a level as Daredevil who is blind, so you can't see anything.

It's great.

Because that takes time and energy away from other more important things. Bethesda games have optional third person but it's crap. Tight, confined areas don't get along with third person cameras. You also need to animate a lot more, further increasing the workload.

Believe it or not, there's a lot more to this than CDPR just not wanting to do third person because they're mean or lazy. Shockingly, there actually are technical and artistic reasons behind the choice of being first person.

Also, thanks for all the downvotes. I love being proved right.

She's right.

You aren't getting downvoted because of your opinion; you're getting downvoted because you're being a dick.

How was I being the abrasive one? Have you seen the hysterical bitchfit some people are having over this? I was simply reassuring CDPR that those people are a loud, obnoxious minority, and there are a great many people that are happy it's first person and they should not second guess themselves or their decision on first person.
I approve of first person. Third person games where the player characters takes up an entire third of the picture (Arkham Asylum, Dead Space, Alan Wake,...) are an eyesore. It's more immersive too.

That being said, I wouldn't mind an option to switch to third person, but that would probably involve an absurd amount of work to implement.

Someone else being an asshat doesn't preclude you being one too.
