Is it exactly the same? No. Could it be better? Yes, indeed. Is it good enough for a number of people who don't care whether they buy it here or on Steam, as long as they can later back it up? Yes.

I'm not disputing that. That's not what I'm talking about at all. What I'm talking about is, in this case, the OP acting as if a game being "DRM-free" on Steam and here was equivalent. It is not. That's it. I'm not arguing about what is "good" or "bad" about it and if people should or should not consider it good enough.

The OP isn't "acting like" that at all. The point is that the entire thing has no DRM, therefore there's no particular reason - along that direction, anyway - that gOg carries a lesser, outdated version compared to what Steam has.

Pulling the game is another matter, but as others have suggested there should at least be a note / warning. Yes, it's not convenient for gOg to point out that stuff is missing, implying a better version may be found elsewhere.

it's a linux tool... so i guess it will only download linux packages/installers for games.

Read 1.1 (Downloading SteamCMD->Windows) and 2.1 (Running SteamCMD->Windows). Not to mention section 7 (Windows Software/Scripts).
And SteamCMD does allow you to use it on OS A to download files for OS B, with A and B being any of the supported OSes.
Have used SteamCMD in the past to download a Mac version of a game while using Windows on the computer that was doing the downloading.

A lot of people here are averse to the idea of even touching Steam.
Better to be able to buy it here gimped than not to be able to buy it here at all.

Actually to correct the op, the original Postal AND Redux are NOT DRM-Free on Steam at all. They still require you to have Steam open to run unlike the Steam version of Postal 2.

False. I own Redux and the game launches without Steam, I also scanned with ProtectionID : I highly doubt the original Postal has any DRM.

Redux DOES load, but with an annoying message that never goes away and a loading screen that is infinite.

Unless I am doing something wrong (I DID load both the PostalRedux.exe and the 64 Bit executable from within the binaries folder), these titles refuse to load without Steam unlike what RWS claims, which is complete bullshit on their part priding themselves on DRM-Free when only Postal 2 is.

From a gameplay standpoint,I think that all the Postal games pretty much suck....play is repative, and playing as a homicidal maniac out to kill everthing in site is fun for about five minutes, but then gets boring. And the "Satire" in the game is not nearly as clever as RWS thinks it is.
That being said, I see no reason to pull the games from GOG.

Sorry, you're actually right for Redux. The game did launch without Steam on release, RWS must have changed something. They probably wanted to make sure people understand that Steam is required for multiplayer or something.
