I'm running out of excuses not to play this...

Just don't go in expecting great combat mechanics. What makes the game special, I think, is the fascinating world, the cool story, the incredible writing + dialogues (which there is a lot of) and the phenomenal music.
Not the combat is bad or anything. It's pretty much the same as the baldur's gate and icewind dale series.

Obsidian has 4/7 games they made in that list and if you count black isle games in that list, their total comes to 7. That's pretty impressive track record imo!

Frankly I can enjoy browsing through any highly subjective gaming list that isn't filled to bursting with big budget AAA releases from the past few years. That should never be the case unless the list happens to be called 'the x best big budget AAA releases from the past few years.'

Well, after getting through all the adverts. Torchlight 2 and Diablo 2 are action rpg games. Diablo 3 is also crap, not just the auction house, online requirement, but it just isn't a very good game either (disclaimer - haven't played it that much).
Then there is nwn2, its ok, but the main campaign is quite poor. Also, I found the engine very annoying, the whole cli,k on door load for 5 minutes. Got very annoying. Skyrim, that must have been a stuffed brown paper bag, story is weak, even compared to other es games. Like oblivion, it relies heavily on the community to make the game.
Still, a fair few on there I agree with, and dark souls which i think is a good shout for worst game ever at least on pc.
