If you value being able to make even minor fixes yourself, let alone mod anything. I learned the hard way that whatever files one will get from Microsoft are secured tighter than a virgin's asshole.

So I thought I'd give it a go for a buck to try Metro Exodus about a month ago. Well, that turned out to be a fucking buck and 15-20 playtime completely wasted. Apparently, the game has a stupid bug that wants to reset config settings to DX12, which in itself is buggy in how it displays the game off-center. Eventually I ended up with a black screen on startup. Is there a workaround for that? Yes! But not for this version since one can't ever get to the config files due to lacking privilege access. Hell, I wasn't even able to make a backup of the save files for a potential re-installation of the game because they're equally tucked away behind MS's BS.

The reason I just mention it now is because I was kind of eyeing The Outer Worlds, but knowing Obsidian for their bugs and not having any ability to fix or work around such in the MS store versions, it ended up being a hard pass for me.

Just wanted to make people aware before they end up wasting their time and/or money.

It took me so long to figure out how to install a game that I quit before even installing one. I'm glad they upgraded live members for free so we could try this garbage before actually buying it. I'm out.

The more time goes on, the more I see brilliance in the simplicity of GOG. It's just nice to not have to worry about all that junk. I just want to buy a game, play it, and move on.

I had another incident with Microsoft the other day. I bought one of kids Cuphead with MS because o wanted something physical to give him and I could get a card at GameStop for a PC/Xbox code.

Now, if two of my kids want to play or Internet isnt hooked up (which is fairly often on their machines), they're out of luck. Can't play.

So no more of those purchases. If it's on GOG, I'm going GOG. I can just make my own box to wrap.

Most of us learned with Games For Windows Dead. Never go near the M$ stores (and I wouldn’t be buying a Xbox anyways).
Play console games on console or emulated on PC.

Play PC games on PC. UWP games aren't PC games until MS fixes their BS if ever.

Obsidian and Bethesda games are horrible on consoles due to the bugs.

AFAICT UWP games are broken by design and console gamers love them for it.

Hello all,

I see a lot of people being attracted to the Xbox Game pass due to its low price and the promise of many new games being added and, I must say, I am too.

And so was I with the Playstation Now, which I tried for one month free-trial both on PS4 and PC. While this service is mostly Streaming, it ran well until I, too, encoutered bugs I couldn't fix. A bit different, however since those are console games you can play on PC, and not PC version of games.

I still want to try the Game pass one day, but as someone else said, if it's on GoG, even at a higher price, I probably go for it on GoG instead of renting it elsewhere (in that case : The game pass). I'm not an avid mod users, but for some game it's almost mandatory.
I'm going to risk $1 to play Outer Worlds. I used the free trial to play State of Decay 2 when it came out.

Until the last paragraph, I was unsure if this was going to turn out to be a spambot post (despite your registration date & forum rep). =D

Pretty sure you got it wrong.

Might eventually be a bit of a trouble but booting on Linux through a pen drive, usually can overide those previleges problems. May worth a try since it may take a couple of minutes to do it, if you have no other way to play.
I've broken a Windows instalation trying to access a 2nd account on the same hard drive, that same 2nd account was not bootable anymore. Probably fixable but beyond my knowledge and motivation.
Windows 10 needed for it, right?

Yarp.
Thanks. I sure am sticking to either GOG or Steam. I'm done with that sort of fiddling if I can help it.
They are handing out test passes left and right.
Just wait till Metro and Outer Worlds release here or on Steam next year.

Only bought 1 game in the last 9 years, which wasnt from Gog (hey .. there is enough supply here :-)

All those "must-be-online"-DRM is suspicuos to me, especially after reading something like this:

Yeah, well, as my signature say, I may have trouble replicating human behaviors :p
