jamyskis: That sounds like a dodgy Bluray drive - it seems to be crashing whenever it plays movies, which are the highest bitrate transfers that occur from Bluray to memory.

Have you tried a game from PSN to see if the same problems occur?

I've personally never had any problems with the Bluray drive in the PS3 - I've had mine since 2008 and it gets pretty much non-stop use even today for films.

nightcraw1er.488: Yes, could well be the blue ray. Let me see if it does the same on the other one I have in the house. Very nearly brought a super slim off ebay :o)
might as well the super slim's are practically new will work better last longer and the blu ray drive is easier to acces and replace if necessary

the slide door is rather flimsy and tacky though
but then my ps2 enabled ps3 sounds like a fucking industrial vacuum cleaner when it feels like it
Have you downloaded the game updates/patches?

Also, try sitting the PS3 system in a different position vertical/horizontal.

Sounds like you've tried everything otherwise.

pimpmonkey2382.313: Definitely could be the drive, though I had very same things with the HDD of mine, until it would start up, say my HDD is corrupted, go through the rebuilding database, screen would go black for a half hour, then out of nowhere, restart.
Yep, tried all that several times. Have now replaced the HDD with a new SSD, still the same.

Yes, that was my thinking too, though there are comments out there that each version is more robust than others. I suppose its luck of the draw really.

Good point, hadn't even thought of patching a games console, but seeing as install OS/Upgrades and such like mcu the same as a PC, I suppose it would be the same. Will have a look at that as well. Thanks.

i suppose so
but i generally am of the school of thought the super slim is the latest and "greatest" most of the faults have been ironed out so this is as good as it will get
and if you buy it new you still have warranty

course i play most of my games ona 22 year old sega saturn these days so i tend to be a bit ...paranoid about systems breaking down
especially with a system that has dwindling numbers like the saturn
there are only 10 million around and who knows how many are still working and still in circulation ?

I know tell me about it. Seems to be the new shiny gets less longevity each time. I mean I still have a snes which is going strong after a long time. Its why emulation is so important, otherwise these things will just vanish into history.

i am not too worried about replacing any of the playstations though
together they shifted 456 million units ( ps1 2 3 psp and ps4 combined ) but 20 + year old consoles that only shifted 10 million or less like the saturn or the abysmal jaguar are starting to become thin on the ground
yeah ps3's are pretty ultracommon. I had like 3 or 4 ps3's to myself.

my ps3 isnt that common its one of the few pal units that can run playstation 2 games
( partial software emulation the graphics hardware is still a part of the system but the cpu is being emulated )
but the ps3 it self is as common as muck

the ps2 is so common even 16 years later its dirt cheap ditto for the ps1

the saturn on the other hand
i have 2 of them and both are behaving odd
my model 2 for instance wont reconigse my 3D controller

Sadly got rid of mine years ago. Think it was on my quest to get ahold of a neo geo. Which I ended up accomplishing.

Had all 3 at one point, at the same time. An MV-1C mvs, AES and CD.
