Think KFC. Everyone pronounces the letters because the acronym can't be spoken as a word.

Then think SHIT. Everyone's forgotten the acronym simply says it as a word since it rolls off the tongue so nicely.

Hence the only modern people who shouldn't be looked on like they're window lickers for not pronouncing GOG as a word are those who's native language isn't English (e.g. Americans).

All that said: if sarcasm, often considered the most intellectually retarded way to insult someone, is the fool's wit then attacking someone over spelling or grammar is the realm of a true idiot.

So it matters little how we say it so long as the meaning gets across :D

HunchBluntley: I've always wondered how people get "lull" from LOL. If anything, it would be pronounced "lawl" (roughly rhyming with ball), or maybe "loal" (rhyming with coal).

TrollumThinks: And yet I say 'lol' rhyming with 'doll'
Or that, yeah. All these would be valid pronunciations, given the varied sounds "O" can make in English. Making a distinct "U" sound is...not very common for "O" in stressed syllables.

Not sure if joking, but in case you're not: shit is not an acronym.

Are you absolutely positive about that?

Edit: I'll clarify on the off chance you took me literally. I should redirect you back to the end line of my sentence:

"So it matters little how we say it so long as the meaning gets across".

It doesn't matter that SHIT isn't an acronym or that LOL isn't a word, all that matters is people understand the meaning when it's said or typed.

I pronounce it backwards.
Even when it was an abbreviation for Good Old Games I pronounced it as gog.

I pronounce LOL as rhyming with doll as well. Pronounced and written thus, 'lol' is a colloquial Dutch word meaning 'fun'.

If it's like SNES, Yanks prefer to spell it out while Brits prefer expediency. As for me, If ''George'' has a ''jaw'' sound in it, then GOG can be pronounced like this.
I pronounce it as Gog - just because it's easier.

Actually this thread caused me to think about Janice from Friends shouting:
"Oooh myyyy Gog!"
Definitely just "gog". It's much quicker to say.
Another reason would most likely be the conditioning from my younger years by playing HoM&M 3.
Probably the worst tier 2 shooter in the game from the town Inferno. It is still the first thing that comes to my mind when someone says gog.
I'm of the old school, so it's G O G.

Telika: Do they specify which one ?
Not in the Wikipedia article. Maybe in the Book of Revelation, but that´s rather cryptic. I took a quick look but couldn´t find any info on that.
I just call it GOG, but mainly due to my North East tones.

You still call it KFC? I call it "Listeria buck-buck".
Let's do it this way....You are walking down the street and in the distance approaching you is that clever dic/chic G-O-G.Do you say ''hiya geeee ooooo geeee...Nope.....What about...''hiya good old games''....I don't zink so...the answer is ''hiya gog''...or if he/she is a special buddy/lass...''hiya goggy''.
It's Oh. The g is silent.
