Does GOG actually perform any vetting of reviews? If so, how grossly offensive/illegal must they be to be removed?

For good examples of the outrageous stuff that they leave up, spend a few minutes reading the more critical beamdog reviews.

I dare not quote/attach them to this thread, for fear of causing further offence or being banned. Calls to violence against the developer and instructions on how to pirate the games are left untouched.

Is the length limit the only thing that causes reviews to be rejected?

Darvond: I'd prefer the Steam Rule of Thumbs, except with a "middling" thumb for so-so or average games. There are many games which I feel do not deserve a positive or negative acclaim, but rather a, "I need to explain my complicated feelings about this game."
If we're doing fingers, I'd like to have the middle one.

That wouldn't work with the rule of 3s. And I don't think it'd exactly fare well for many devs to get that particular gesture.
low rated
As I have said in the past, you should be able to add to your earlier review, as in indent style, but not be able to edit it after 24 hours. I do not believe in attempts to change history. Unless a review was totally false at the time, it remains true in the context of the time it was written. On that basis, reviews should never be deleted, unless deliberate false information or bias, and only deleted by a MOD in that instance, perhaps upon request.

Depending on the nature or substance of a review, whether you own a game at GOG or not, is irrelevant.

DEVS should be able to address a misunderstanding or misconception, but not be allowed to do any promoting in a review and not make any additional claims. What should be in the game blurb, should be there, and not in any review.

5 Stars has always been a stupid idea, it should be 10 stars. There are good reasons why a rating out of 10 used to be the standard.

P.S. What would be of great assistance in a review, is a rating of the reviewer, to get a sense of how reliable they are as a judge.

I doubt anyone cares, but I used to occasionally write reviews. Part of the reason why I pretty much stopped writing them is due to the lack of progress in what you could do with them, with the options even regressing in some ways.

-Increasingly restrictive character limit.
-Rating cannot be changed after posting the review.
-Cannot comment on reviews.
-There's no tab in your account where your reviews are gathered.
-Cannot edit and/or delete reviews.
-Lack of gogmixes.

There are also bugs that have been mostly fixed by now but still pop up from time to time, such as reviews not appearing, disappearing, old reviews not having paragraphs, giving the wrong date, etc. The continued lack of a way to easily edit a review and how the character limit has only gotten lower over time are probably the biggest reasons, though.

That said, as a reader there have been improvements to the review system with the addition of the filters and the split between verified and non-verified reviews. The verified score especially was a great addition.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: 2. There used to be a way by which hackers would cheat the character limit in reviews, and thus publish reviews that broke the rules by being vastly larger than GOG's rules allow them to be. This gives those authors a hugely unfair leg up on honest authors who didn't hack the system like they did. GOG should therefore delete any & all such hacked reviews, period. Yet thus far, GOG has allowed them to stay intact.
Older reviews are frequently longer because the character limit for reviews has changed over time and used to be quite a bit higher.

De Ravenna: I am interested in hearing what the rest of you think about the review system. Any other problems I didn't list?
I think GOG needs a "view/edit your review" button. There is no way to edit your review, and to view them you have to scroll through pages of review just to find your own. The only thing we can see is the 1-5 star rating we gave on the game.

They could also give you a way to find all your reviews in the first place. I asked support to delete my reviews, but they asked me to provide the list of games I've reviewed.. took me an hour to find them :/

This would be even better. A reviews section in your profile, like Steam. I like writing and re-reading reviews, and in GOG it's hard to even find your own reviews.
Just found out that you can't edit or delete a review/score. Why GOG? I left a review for Cyberpunk 2077 where I even state I'll update it later, when things get patched, and I just found it's not possible. And there's a typo, although minor, that I can't fix. Well... I'll just leave it as it is until they add the functionality of editing/deleting.

You can contact support regarding this... Although I guess your ticket will be low prio, and with the avalanche they're currently dealing with, it might take weeks and months...

Good, maybe they'll fix it in meantime.

They haven't fixed reviews in years now... I wouldn't hold my breath.

And expected me to mindread that? ;-)

This thread is one of the few not about CP :-D
Has anyone else issues with posting reviews?
It's days I'm trying to post a review of Rebel Galaxy Outlaw without success.
The weird thing is that as my old review of Wing Commander IV has disappeared I posted another without any issues.
