people calling outrages and crusades on "perversions" and this shit should be sedated before they start to make real damage.

pearnon: So, basically, the only thing setting you apart from those people is 821 years? Because the attitude seems the same, if not even more morally reprehensible.
No, it's called basic respect for human dignity.
Something someone who thinks certain ideologies should be free to be pursued most likely knows nothing about.

If you think it's ok to tolerate ideologies aimed to destroy other people, and that fighting them is morally reprehensible, then I'm fucking happy to be the dirtiest immoral crapbag ever.

I take as a matter of pride (no pun intended) to be despised by bigots, if they hate me it means I must be doing something right.

frogthroat: May would be the Mental Health Awareness month. Maybe next year?
Well they could do it at any time of the year(the more the better with certain causes, imo), as well. :)

avatar
frogthroat: And yeah, the difference between pandering and actually caring can be shown with charity. If GOG finds some (Polish or EU-wide) mental health charity to donate some of the proceedings to, that would definitely fall under the "caring" category.
Agreed/well said

Btw, thanks for the games lists.

MeowCanuck: Sounds like Christian persecution complex to me - over-exaggerating a harmless phenomenon. You're not pressured into silence if you're still able to take time off work to celebrate these family traditions and go to Midnight Mass with other Christians if your sect does that thing. I guess Muslims are silenced when people don't greet them with "Eid Mubarak" every May or June?
I don't know about "Eid Mubarak", but I know about Muslim protests in UK and their results Do you honeslty believe the school would do the same for Christians? While there is still some back and forth about LGBT-lessons, it looks to me that Christianity < LGBT < Islam

avatar
MeowCanuck: Compared to Christians in the Middle East where they're actually being discriminated, silenced, kidnapped, and killed, the removal of "Merry Christmas" greetings in retail stores is a complete nonissue and a right companies can practice.
Interesting. You see, LGBT+/-people are also discriminated, silenced and etc in the Middle East. Compared to that all LGBT problems in US are also non-issues, and yet gays are considered to be oppressed.

avatar
MeowCanuck: If you don't like it, then simply go to a different store that supports your values if that's important to you.
Or go to a different bakery, right?

avatar
MeowCanuck: The inherent assumption here is that LGBTQ+ communities are receiving better treatment than regular citizens, which is why people see all of this stuff is unfair. Compare the historical plights between the LGBTQ+ community and the current issues they have today and you might see that the playing field was never fair until quite recently in select countries. Conveniently, no one has presented a reasonable argument against statistical evidence of bullying, discrimination, mental disorders, familial disownment, and lifetime suicide attempts and behaviour from the last thread about this issue.
A reasonable argument against what? That mental disorders and the high suicide rate is the fault of straight people? The argument is - presumption of innocense. It's on YOU to prove that the reason is mistreatment from cis-het people and not something else.

You still don't get it, do you? It's YOU, who accuses people of "being intolerant", when they fight ideologies that are aimed to destroy their society. Yet, you yourself act the same way and still claim that you are "tolerant". This is exactly the hypocrisy that people like GamezRanker and pearnon call out.

TheEndedSkull: For those genuinely curious about why Pride Month is a thing, maybe I can try to explain a bit: As you're probably aware, there have been (and still are) many places in the world where being LGBT is effectively outlawed. The most popular (if I'm not mistaken at least) religions in the world speak out against homosexuality as a sin, perhaps even something to be put to death for. Even in places where these things have improved or are improving, acceptance doesn't happen overnight. There's no magic switch where same-sex marriage becoming legal means that suddenly being gay is no big deal anymore.

See, while some people refuse to believe this it's not a choice for someone to be gay or trans or whatever else. It's just how they are, and this tends to be a pretty big part of their identity and their lives. Most people want romantic love, to find someone who they can spend the rest of their life with. Most people want to feel comfortable being authentic and sincere and expressing themselves genuinely. These things can become incredibly difficult if pursuing love or being true to yourself means feeling like most of the world hates you, means losing your friends or family because they won't accept you anymore.

The reason there is no Straight Pride or Cis Pride is because it's always been socially acceptable (and expected) to be those things. Nobody has to come out as straight, nobody has to come out as cisgender. Nobody has to worry about their friends, family, community, or government hating them for being those things. The point of Pride is to stand in opposition to the shame, the hatred, the alienation, all of the pain others have inflicted and continue to inflict upon LGBT people. The point is to show people they're not alone, as well as to help spread awareness, understanding, and acceptance of them.

For most people, sadly, being LGBT is difficult. Some are fortunate enough to live in accepting places and be with accepting people, but many aren't. It is really, really tough to feel like all of the people you love most in the world wouldn't be able to love you anymore if they knew the truth about you. They wouldn't accept you, they wouldn't understand you or even want to understand you. They'd look down on you, they'd see you as defective, or maybe even worse. People treat your very existence as a political issue, and it can feel like the world itself simply doesn't want you around.

It's really bad, honestly. But it doesn't have to be that way. Human beings choose how to treat each other, and there is no reason why LGBT people have to be treated poorly. Hopefully someday we'll reach a point where they aren't, where "coming out" really is no big deal. That seems to be a long way away though, if it's ever reached. But Pride Month is a part of working towards it, and it's part of giving LGBT people some time where maybe the weights they carry don't have to feel quite so heavy.
I try to avoid posting in these threads but I just wanted to say that's a great post. Pity some of the people in this thread won't read and take it in.

Oh my, oh my. No, sir, you don't get it... or most likely, you pretend not to.
I honestly don't know which alternative is worse: are y'all doing this out of sheer maliciousness ar are y'all just THAT dumb?

What I said, translated in the most comprehensible thing I can think of: ideologies that try to suppress people, by force, thought or any other mean, deserve no place in a civil society. It is the limit everything, even the most libertaria system ever, must impose itself - otherwise it will collpase. I AM intolerant against systematic intolerance. Easy.
I said I am speaking out against any and all such ideas, and I said the world will be a better place without them; it's just logic, they bring conflict based on irrational fears and everybody suffers.
LGBTQ+ peeps did fuck all to you and your clique, while you're out ranting of psychological issues and this Mengele shit about how they'll be the ruin of everything and all.
You, orkthethig and all the other recurrent shit flingers here, which -I cannot stress enough- any place with a modicum of decency would have banned by now for instigation to hatred, gratuitous insults and all that stuff are stressing this again and again.

The fun thing is, I am no LGBTQ+ member and I don't even have close contact with any, and yet I must stand out to say what should be the most obsious of things: live and let live. You are not doing that, you are ranting on the internet about the intrinsic inferiority of a certain group, even if you "veil" it with "science".

So either start reasoning, admit your intents or just straight up go stick yourself one wherever you please.

If you're just going to keep spreading your bigotry, intolerance, and insults around: could you please choose another thread to do so in so those of us discussing the thread topic civilly can continue to do so in peace?

(if you can discuss the topic civilly without resorting to insults and etc, then you're more than welcome to stay, of course)

LootHunter: Interesting. You see, LGBT+/-people are also discriminated, silenced and etc in the Middle East.
In front of foreigners and according to some of their laws, yes. In reality there is a certain level of acceptance in the Arab world, where homosexual relationships are not uncommon, all the way from South Asia to Levant, Gulf area and Northern Africa. It goes far beyond that, I don't know if you're familiar with the so-called bacha bazi, which originated centuries ago in Central Asia (widespread even under Russian rule), nowadays still practiced in certain areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
People need to see and understand the difference between culture and religion, especially when it comes to the Arab world. Afghanistan stands as a solid example. When Talibans took charge of the country in the 90s, they criminalised all sexual relationships outside heterosexual marriage. This includes not only homosexual relationships, but also extramarital sex. Since Afghanistan is an Islamic republic according to the Constitution, LGBT people are in violation of Sharia law. Still this didn't curb the bacha bazi.
An even better example is Saudi Arabia, where Sharia is the base of its entire legal system. Homosexuality (and not only) is illegal. Still, it is also an open secret if that makes sense. Some even call Saudi The Kingdom in the closet.

Ruvika: I think you are taking this too seriously, I know everything is political, but I don't know if they are doing this with the intention of "convert" someone or make them gays, it's something like "here we have some games if you are LGBT+ that maybe you will find some representation or themes that you may found interesting".
Which by the way has never happened and probably never will be. It still amuses me a lot that we are living in 2021 and people still have problems with some people just because they are gay or don't feel good in their body they were born in. Grow up world.

Also agree that it puzzles me a bit why this celebration did not deserve any discounts ... but ... well .. that's what we get.

Okay, then without a year - it's unbelievable how so many people after all these years are still behaving like little children. People are people and love is love - if you don't like it, nobody is forcing you. I hate guns and will never understand how people think it would help them to hurt others ... I know many others see this differently. So - I let them. It's their life and I have mine. As long as nobody is forcing me I could not care less. That is what I meant with "growing up". Be concerned about things that are really concerning you and learn that so often there's no wrong or right - only different opinions ... you don't need to share them but accept that they are there. Otherwise you will remain a child forever.

But I am pretty sure that it might be a little hard for you to understand my words or what I really want to say with them since you apparently prefer to reply in just a few words. So Mr. or Mrs. or Ms. SuperStraight Win 10, I will leave this as my final word (which since at least seems to be political - no idea, I have given up onunderstanding what today is supposed to be political and what not - micht be deleted or moderated anyway).

If you mean in this thread, I think more here(including myself) just dislike the various corporate pandering that ensues during pride months rather than LGBT people.

Imo what GOG did was better than other stores(games or otherwise), as they didn't try to entice more sales by lowering prices.

Now if they'd have given a portion of each sale to some LGBT causes(I mean beyond the ones GOG donates to on the regular) during said event, that'd have been even better.

Sidenote: thanks for being a more civil voice in this thread.
(even if we might possibly not fully agree on some points re the current topic)

It is you who mocks me, and then talk about tolerance and love is love and accept others even if they have different opinions.
What a complete joke from someone who label others as child just because they don't share exactly the same opinions.

There is right and wrong, and you are clearly not right here.

pearnon: No one hates you (not in this thread, at least). You're projecting your unhinged thought process on others.

And the funny thing is, say you have a grandma or aunt who is uncomfortable in the presence of gays and feels outraged when she sees men kissing in the street. You're advocating for "sedating" her - in your own words - and in your twisted worldview, you actually pat yourself on the back for being the Good Guy and the savior of the oppressed. It's cognitive dissonance and unwarranted conceit on a scale that might be amusing, if it wasn't so twisted.

avatar
MeowCanuck: in recent times, Christians haven't really been mistreated by developed countries' governments or organized groups for their beliefs.
avatar
pearnon: Oh, boy.

- Canada arresting pastors on the highway for holding service during the pandemic, while praising the Muslim community for its 'safe' Ramadan celebrations.
- One Australian church was forced to remove the word Jesus from its Easter advertisements as it was "offensive to non-Christians".
- Finnish Prosecutor General won't have any of that nasty Bible stuff
- British chaplain of a private school fired and added to terror watchlist for a sermon on identity politics
- ACLU consistently trying to remove nativity scenes throughout the years in the US

To say nothing of the institutional shrug at churches being desecrated in record numbers in Europe, whereas a vandalized mosque or synagogue immediately leads to thorough investigations, condemnation and contrition.

You see, polite persecution is still persecution. Just because something hides under a veneer of respectability and "enlightened" secularism doesn't make it any less virulent.
Twisting words again, I see.
I never talked about "sedating" people, I'm talking about discouraging ideas aimed to discriminate. That's it. It's not hard: what instigates intolerance has to be stopped, people will change eventually, surely not overnight, but if nobody starts discouraging distruptive idea they'll just go down the famous slippery slope.
It's normal, almost all countries have some legislation on purpose since the end of WW2. I really don't see how anybody can have a problem with that! Like with any other crime, you address it before the damage is done.

I'm baffled by all the absurd interpretations I'm seeing from something so obvious.

Even being called bigot... is it bigotry to oppose bigotry?
The logic here is faulty.
