paladin181: What pds41 is saying is that they sell GOG keys. There are only two places to legally buy GOG keys: GOG.com and Humble Bundle (and even that is for a VERY limited selection). So any site selling GOG.com game keys is doing so illegally, or at least they are distributing without permission. So the site is like g2a or kinguin, which are gray market key resellers that often do more harm to the industry than good because of often selling keys purchased fraudulently with stolen credit cards, which leads to the game developers and original stores having to chase down the chargebacks since they are the ones who lose money on the whole ordeal. It is better to avoid those shady gray market sellers for the benefit of everyone. After all, you lose your money, you lose your game, and the developer loses their money. The only people who win are the ones who got reimbursed by the gray market site for selling the key they didn't even pay for out of pocket.

Thanks - I should probably have given slightly more detail in my original post!

Thing is, the guy's not even making sense.

- First he's complaining about a 5 Euro difference in price between Steam and here.
- Then he says he can get it for 13 Euros.
- When questioned on that, he links to a gray market seller.
- Then when it's pointed out to him that it's a gray market key seller, he doesn't want to hear it (and seemingly never once wondered how this site can sell the games so much cheaper than anywhere else).
not completely related but for me it's the opposite, games are generally cheaper here than on steam

cyberpunk 77 and bg3 are both 37 dollars while on steam they are 60

Lucky you. In a lot countries, GOG prices are significantly higher than other game stores. Regional pricing became very unfair for many ever since fair pricing program was ended, but not all. Some large markets like US and Russia still receive competitive prices, for a lot of smaller countries - the opposite is happening.

amok: they aregrey market sellers, becuse the keys do not come via offical sellers. this means that the keys then comes from re-selling keys, credit card frauds, stolen keys and so on. if the keys can not be got legally, then there is only one other option.

keys from sites like this can be revoked, which means you lose your game and mony, and there is nothing you can do about it if it happens.
Apart from suing the people that broke said key or going after the key seller and he does have something of a point about resales.

If someone bought a product with a stolen card then sells that product to an innocent third party what happens if the maker of said products then breaks it?

Not in my country. Steam prices tend to be significantly lower here, especially during a similar sale, due to regional pricing. I still have twice as many games on GOG than I do on Steam.

However, DRM and region locks make me prefer the GOG version where possible.

There are a few exceptions to the rule of course.

Well, in the US, possession of or purchase of stolen property is a crime. Even if you were "unaware". There are provisions that will keep you out of any trouble if it is reasonable that you didn't know it was stolen, but buying an item at significantly below market value generally puts any of that to bed. The old adage "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is" applies.
Well, I guess it is still a valid question why e.g. in EU the GOG version is 59.99€ and in Steam 54.99€. Is it due to different kind of regional pricing or how GOG version calculates the currencies or what?

Or, does the developer/GOG just want more money per sold unit on GOG?

Not that I really care that much, like many said I buy on sales mainly when I feel the price is right for me. I have NMS GOG already.
Must be, because here HZD is sold for 31.6€ (349NOK) and NMS for 45.19€ (499NOK)...
Maybe yell at the publisher instead.
No Man Sky regularly goes on sale at GOG, but I have only seen it go below $30 AUD once that I recall.

It's never been cheap enough for me, and now with its DRM aspect, I am even less likely to buy, though ultimately I would like to.
