GOG games are not alone in doing this silliness. <removed the rest of my comments due to the new forum rules>
Just keep in mind that tracking which redistributable package is needed on a system is not a trivial task. The latest redis package is NOT meant to replace older ones. You may be breaking some games/programs in the process -- which is not a big deal of course since you can install the redis again later.
SteamCleaner is handy.

Don't worry about the name, it doesn't only clean junk from steam games, it also cleans out Origin & gog games too.
I've used this for quite some time & had no problems.

Serren: Hi all,

Is there a command line parameter to prevent gog.com game installers from automatically installing Visual C++ redistributables?

I removed a ton of duplicate and obsolete Visual C++ redistributable installs placed on my PC by gog.com games and manually installed only the latest versions of both x86 and x86-64 of each release year (2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015) due to stability issues. Since the cleanup, everything has been flawless, but many times when I go to install another gog.com game, it doesn't even check to see if I already have the necessary redistributables installed and tries to install an obsolete or duplicate version again.

Really it would be best for the gog.com installers to ask or have a checkbox before doing such a thing, but I wonder if there is already a way to prevent this with an installer parameter or something. If it's possible, please let me know.

Thanks.
I would be careful with removing those redistributables as we've found that some games will only work with very specific versions of some redistributable runtimes and they will not work with newer versions. I am not sure which exact games but I know there were some amongst the older titles.

I really wish the GOG installer would inform the user when a redistributable will be installed. Once the installer is started, the window should list what version is needed like "MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" and whether it's 32 or 64-bit. Plus, it should give the user the option to not install it, especially if they already have that version installed on their computer.
What's the deal with all those redistributables? Why are they needed and why have they been manage in a retarded manner.

Back in the olden days the closet thing to them was direct x updates that moved forward in whole blocks like from direct x 3 to 4 instead of this silly piecemeal approach.

I found the exact opposite. I think it was King's Crusade or some other game that would not work until I removed all old VC++ versions.

Serren: A simple checkbox in the installers that allow for skipping installation of the redistributable would be very handy and could resolve this.
Apologies for bumping this topic but count me in for the checkbox implementation. I have made a wishlist entry requesting for this feature, there might be others who would like to see this implemented.

Feature request

@JudasIscariot - That is understandable considering I had trouble with some of the games that used physx which would only work on older versions instead of the latest ones.
