The publisher explains the game will be better for it.

Publishers NIS America Inc. have decided to postpone the PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, which was originally planned for September 12.

In their note to the community they said:
"We regret to inform everyone that the release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA on PC has been pushed back due to continued efforts in improving gameplay quality.

We sincerely apologize to our fans who have been looking forward to this release. Ultimately, our goal is for fans to enjoy a high-quality game. We are providing the extra care in the PC development of the game by taking time to enhance the overall quality of gameplay."

Recently, they elaborated on what's holding back the release saying:
"We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.
[...]
First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
- Random crashes
- Framerate
- Language-related issues

Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.
[...]
We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA"

Anyone who has already pre-ordered the game on GOG.com and wishes to ask for a refund can contact our support team directly.

We will be updating this post with the new release date, once it is provided.

---Original post follows---

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is now available for pre-order on GOG.com. Grab it now to get three DLC for free: Adol's Adventure Essentials, a Mini Art Book, and a Soundtrack Sampler.
Ready for a new round of exciting, party-based trouble? Adol and co. get stranded on a mysterious island where ferocious beasts roam. When a blue-haired beauty starts calling to our hero in his dreams, it's time for them to build a village and set out to undo the island's curse.

The free DLC offer will last for one week after release.

VanishedOne: I tested that and got the gift code region lock message. Given that the visible price is 'free', and usually the restriction is on purchases below the US price if I remember rightly, I'm not quite sure what's going on there.
avatar
Grargar: There is no such restriction anymore. The message used is a leftover from the days when GOG restricted gifts for a select number of games. GOG is using it in this case to prevent people who don't have the base game from getting the DLCs for free (though they should remember to disable it once the DLCs stop being free, assuming they won't be removed).
Could someone please explain to me how it works? I don't want to lose the free dlc. I even contacted GOG support asking how they will handle these dlc after the week, but got not reply yet :/

For similar offers in the past, you could gift yourself the DLC for later and thus not have to pay for it down the road. GOG has seemingly wisened up to that fact and has blocked this using a method that was previously reserved for gift restriction.

At any rate, according to NISA, you will still be able to acquire the DLCs after the first week, albeit at a price (see attached image).

Oh I see! Also, thank you so much for the screenshot and clarifing me the doubt I had; this way I can safely buy it at a later time. Thanks again!

PromZA: If Sony drops out Sega will take over. It's competition together with a few features people weren't ready for that drove them out.

Anyway came to say that the DLCs aren't exclusive to ordering the game like the article makes it sound so can pick them up as gifts for now. Don't know if they'll release the full ones later and if they'll get replaced but it might be worth having as collector items.

Who cares. Check them out as gifts so then you'll neither miss them nor have to pay for them.

Gurlok: As gift? what do you mean? Isn't the game required to get them in the first place?
You need to have a game in your account to add its DLC to your library but you don't need to have it in order to buy it as a gift. It seems though GoG wised up to this fact and disabled gifting altogether for these 3 DLC's.

I see, thanks for the explanation :)
Does anyone know how large the installer file will be?

Considering that the store says the game's size is 30 gb, I'd say the installer shouldn't be lesser than 20-25 gb at least. Everything depends on how much the data can be compressed though.

See, THIS is why I'd much rather have XSEED get a hold of Nihon Falcom games. NISA fucks up translations, fucks up games with their shitty coders, fucks up the price because they are geedy fucks, and fucks the customers because most of NISA's fanbase are a bunch of fuckwits without any brains.

Fuck this $60 price tag. The only reason why I even bought the Vita collector's edition after breaking my 2 year long boycott of ever buying anything fucking NISA was because I still don't know enough Japanese to play the JP version and Nihon Falcom games are a major weak spot for me, as they are an incredibly underrated development team/company. Considering this is going to be released by NISA, expect day one issues of game crashing bugs that NISA won't address for 6 months and then come out and make a release statement that they are "working on it" but the bugs never get fixed or they fix one bug and create another because NISA's filled with a bunch of fuckwits who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to localizing a video game.

I already regretted purchasing anything NISA related. Seeing this price on GOG, NISA can go fuck themselves. I seriously hope someone from NISA sees this because I want to make it really clear that I hate NISA so much that I wish that company would cease to exist. Nippon Ichi Software was better done when ATLUS were translating the games, and I despise ATLUS as well for their anti-consumer behavior. XSEED isn't any better, truth be told, but at least their translation team is fucking spot on.
Calm down.

I'm sorry you feel so strongly about NISA and their business practices, also feel sorry how you have a Vita that isn't jail broken (its horrible I know) but at least you can buy the latest NISA release from GOG. Honestly if you want NISA to see "your opinion" email them, post on NISA twitter page but venting on this forum I'm 100% sure they won't see it and probably won't care.
My suggestion is if really want to stick it to them while not going too far piracy wise, buy the game on steam, downland it and give a very negative review and then use the crack on the game and refund it, you keep the game at no cost and you take a shit on NISA all at the same time.

Uh... Downloading a game without paying for it is pretty much the definition of piracy. Might as well download it off some torrent site, at least he wouldn't cause any costs for Valve or the publisher/Devs that way ( due to the download, refund process etc. ).

And why would he make plans to leave a very negative review, before he has even played the game. I mean, maybe it's actually... good?

Just a very vindictive bunch in here, apparently. Well, whatever.

I don't really get it. If the sole reason for the anger is the fact (?) that the publisher screws up on their game releases, people should just wait until after release, and check some reviews. Maybe this game turned out fine. And if it's a buggy, unplayable mess, what good would a pirated/illegitimate copy do?

And as for the price point, I also think it's too much even if it's a good game, but all game prices come down eventually. Just a matter of patience. ( Which should also help with any potential bugs. )
avatar
Chacranajxy: Bought. It's $60, because it's a new, non-indie game that's actually coming out day and date with the Steam release.

Also, Ys is awesome, and there's no way I'm not going to support GOG actually getting this.
avatar
CharlesGrey: Actually, I suspect the reason for the 60+ buck price tag is the fact that it's also being released on PS4, and they probably have some deal with Sony which won't allow them to sell it for less on PC. Same as the inflated base price of No Man's Sky.

Personally, I think around 40 Euro/Dollars would have been a more reasonable price point for what it is, so I'll wait for a sale. Which is probably just as well, since it gives the devs time to patch up any issues. Buying new games right at release is kind of a pain on GOG, due to the messy updates/notifications.

On the other hand, any hardcore Ys fans who buy this right away, at full price, probably help increase the odds of future Japanese releases here, so there's that.
avatar
Gemini1044: They had me at Ys. $60 is just fine for this one. It's likely going to be another 40-60 hour game like Celceta is, but with graphics like a PS4 title. I'm in.

Hopefully XSEED will follow up their port of Seven with Celceta. Celceta is a good game, but would be amazing if given the 60 FPS/1440p (or even 4K) boost. Don't just use the Chinese port by Joyoland (it lacks some light/shadow effects), but rather start from scratch.

After VIII, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ys V (Kefin) get a retelling.
avatar
CharlesGrey: Technically this doesn't have PS4 level visuals. Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Horizon -- those are native PS4 games with matching graphics/production values. This is more like a pimped up PS3 game.

For the record, I think the game looks pretty and I like the overall art direction, but objectively it's not on the same technical level as true AAA games. ( Which it is directly competing with, at that price point. )

Does it really have 40-60 hours of content? I've only played a few Ys games, but they all seemed shorter than that.
It really doesn't have anything to do with Sony specifically most likely. The game is getting a retail release in physical stores. Despite a surge in digital sales, physical sales still make up a large part of the revenue for game companies.
They need to maintain the relationships with stores so they agree to have price parity with physical stores. Recent example: Ark Surival evolved, been $30 for like 2 years but once they get a physical release they bump it up to standard $60 price.
