The publisher explains the game will be better for it.

Publishers NIS America Inc. have decided to postpone the PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, which was originally planned for September 12.

In their note to the community they said:
"We regret to inform everyone that the release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA on PC has been pushed back due to continued efforts in improving gameplay quality.

We sincerely apologize to our fans who have been looking forward to this release. Ultimately, our goal is for fans to enjoy a high-quality game. We are providing the extra care in the PC development of the game by taking time to enhance the overall quality of gameplay."

Recently, they elaborated on what's holding back the release saying:
"We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.
[...]
First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
- Random crashes
- Framerate
- Language-related issues

Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.
[...]
We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA"

Anyone who has already pre-ordered the game on GOG.com and wishes to ask for a refund can contact our support team directly.

We will be updating this post with the new release date, once it is provided.

---Original post follows---

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is now available for pre-order on GOG.com. Grab it now to get three DLC for free: Adol's Adventure Essentials, a Mini Art Book, and a Soundtrack Sampler.
Ready for a new round of exciting, party-based trouble? Adol and co. get stranded on a mysterious island where ferocious beasts roam. When a blue-haired beauty starts calling to our hero in his dreams, it's time for them to build a village and set out to undo the island's curse.

The free DLC offer will last for one week after release.

nightcraw1er.488: Yawn, another pre-order with day 1 dlc, and for a princely sum. Really selling it. Looks like another week of savings.
To be fair, the DLC isn't actually pre-order exclusive, but will no longer be free later on ( or at least that's how I understand it ). Plus, it will remain free for another week after the game is officially released, so people get a chance to wait for reviews. The publisher arguably handled it much better and more customer-friendly than others. ( Well, aside from the obscene base price, and the fact that the DLC, such as the soundtrack, seems to be just a sample teaser. )
avatar
ReynardFox: That price tag is obscene.
avatar
CharlesGrey: Actually, I suspect the reason for the 60+ buck price tag is the fact that it's also being released on PS4, and they probably have some deal with Sony which won't allow them to sell it for less on PC. Same as the inflated base price of No Man's Sky.
avatar
ReynardFox: Yet another reason why I wish Sony would bankrupt itself and leave the gaming industry...
And then what? Leave the market entirely to Microsoft? It's not like they would handle things better. Need I remind you of the XBone's launch, and the great "features" they had planned for it? If it wasn't for Sony, and the way they took advantage of MS's screw-up, I doubt they would have changed their original plans. I'm not a fan of any of the current consoles, but in the long run lack of competition would probably just make things worse for the customer.

I suppose there's one advantage, if Sony left the game console business -- it would increase chances of seeing their former exclusives on PC ( and other consoles ), just as it worked out with Sega.

To be fair I didn't metion "Exclusive" :O) Yes, I suspect it will be charged soon enough along with all the other DLC they are holding back for gradual drip feed. I don't like the term "best of a bad bunch", bad is bad regardless of severity. Anyway, I have never been daft enough to drop $60, even on a new release, so thankfully this will pass me by.

J_Darnley: As I asked in the previous 2, no, 3 Ys threads and didn't get an answer...

Does this game only support XInput gamepads?
Do you honestly expect a 2017 originally console game to NOT support the most supported type of controllers? All the previous Ys and Trails games do.

About the price, it's about what I expected it to be. Wishlisted (I've already spent too much on Ys SEVEN and the Trails games the other day and don't have the time to play everything at the same time).
Could someone clarify me if the dlc will still be available after the free week albeit becoming paid ones?

I'm planning to buy it later, but I fear to lose forever the dlc.
At $59.99, this is AAA quality! Too bad that I can't buy it because my computer can't handle it, otherwise I would have pre-ordered it already.

If Sony drops out Sega will take over. It's competition together with a few features people weren't ready for that drove them out.

Anyway came to say that the DLCs aren't exclusive to ordering the game like the article makes it sound so can pick them up as gifts for now. Don't know if they'll release the full ones later and if they'll get replaced but it might be worth having as collector items.

Who cares. Check them out as gifts so then you'll neither miss them nor have to pay for them.

Read the fucking question, you god damn retard. I asked whether it only supports XInput. Trails of Cold Steel does not support DirectInput.

Wow, buddy, why such an aggressive response, even if the other dude was being snide?

That said, why would anyone aside from the porters and people in the closed beta whom are under an NDA know the exact specifications for what an unreleased game supports yet? You'd be better of emailing NISA or asking on one of their official sources (twitter, forums, etc), or the steam forums which they seem to frequent more. If you're rocking a DInput only controller, though, it's probably safer to wait until release and see what others are saying, and/or use some kind of XInput wrapper for your controller. Generally, unless DS4 support is included, most new games don't really support anything but XInput now as the standard.

Wow, lol. Yeah, I read your question wrong. No need to insult me.

Then I have no idea about directinput. Does x360ce or DS4Windows (this one if you use a DS4) not work for you generally?

As gift? what do you mean? Isn't the game required to get them in the first place?

I tested that and got the gift code region lock message. Given that the visible price is 'free', and usually the restriction is on purchases below the US price if I remember rightly, I'm not quite sure what's going on there.

Perhaps it's a measure to prevent people that don't pre-order from getting the DLC for free?

My apologies. I should not read forum notifications while I am pissed off by work.

x360ce worked for Steam World Dig in an okay manner as I recall. I guess I will wait and see. I haven't even played the previous games yet. Oh that might be a lie. I remember I had Ys 1 installed at some point and played the intro and the first scene.

What I really want is for the minimum or recommended requirements to state whether XInput is required or recommended so I can make an informed purchase.

I couldn't get a refund for Steam World Dig because I said that x360ce worked. I didn't bother asking for a refund for Corpse Party, perhaps I should have. I did manage to get a refund for Mages Of Mystralia because: I complained enough; said I didn't want to emulate; or because the game recommends the Xbox 360 controller after launch.

There is no such restriction anymore. The message used is a leftover from the days when GOG restricted gifts for a select number of games. GOG is using it in this case to prevent people who don't have the base game from getting the DLCs for free (though they should remember to disable it once the DLCs stop being free, assuming they won't be removed).

Snappy title!

Needs more semicolons.
