The publisher explains the game will be better for it.

Publishers NIS America Inc. have decided to postpone the PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, which was originally planned for September 12.

In their note to the community they said:
"We regret to inform everyone that the release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA on PC has been pushed back due to continued efforts in improving gameplay quality.

We sincerely apologize to our fans who have been looking forward to this release. Ultimately, our goal is for fans to enjoy a high-quality game. We are providing the extra care in the PC development of the game by taking time to enhance the overall quality of gameplay."

Recently, they elaborated on what's holding back the release saying:
"We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.
[...]
First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
- Random crashes
- Framerate
- Language-related issues

Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.
[...]
We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA"

Instabou-- *looks at the pricetag* BWAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
No GOG, NISA.... Try again with your $60 Vita port. No way I'm paying that for a shitty port of a portable game, as much as I love Ys.
Not enough cash, stranger. The game looks fantastic and i will sure pick it up later. Still need to beat the first YS
I still have to finish previous games, but hey, this is going to be a great addition to my library. Thanks GOG for getting this one!
I want this. I'm not sure why I want this cause I completely suck at the Ys series but I still want it!

Still cheaper/near same price as the PS4 version that had expanded content and re-worked textures over the Vita release. $60 is definitely a reasonable amount to ask for Ys VIII, though obviously your mileage may vary.

The PS4 version was developed in-house by Falcom, so even though it's a PC port of an unknown quantity, it's really a reasonable price to ask.
Instabuy.

No problem paying full price for this game.
interesting "new" publisher

:p

I'm pretty sure the PC version is based on the PS4 version, rather than the Vita one.

Scorpionscythe: Excited for the game, but $60 makes it wishlisted for now.
Will only preorder anything from CDPR/TESVI/FOV But having a AAA DRM-Free JRPG is extremely rare to see, (As most Japanese publishers are fucked greedy DLC/denvuo whores by default nowadays) so yeah it's pretty much bought as I have the entire series here anyways, and I am a video game hoarder/whore but will definitely wait for a sale!

This. It's still more than I'm willing to pay but I'm certain it uses the same assets as the PS4 version, which probably accounts for its huge file size.
Haven't played any of the Ys games yet. Are they standalone? Do they tell an ongoing story?

Ys 2 clearly follows Ys 1; in fact, I believe the original plan was to create them as a single game, but it ended up being too big, so Falcom split the game into 2 in order to get the first game out. (One warning: The (then) novice game designers at Falcom put in a rather unfair boss into Ys 1 that will drive you batty. If you've played the game, you know what I mean.)

Ys Origin takes place well before Ys 1. It contains many references to Ys 1 and 2, including remixes of many of the boss fights (don't worry, the remix of that boss I alluded to above is not *nearly* as bad). To get the most out of this game, I recommend playing 1 and 2 first. Note that Origin is unusual in that it is the one game in the series in which you don't play as Adol, as the game takes place well before the rest of the series.

The other Ys games have very little connection to one another. Do note that Oath in Felghana is essentially a retelling of Ys 3: Wanders of Ys (though the game mechanics are *very* different), and that there are currently 3 Ys games that could take the spot of Ys 4. Feel free to play these games in whatever order is most convenient.
They had me at Ys. $60 is just fine for this one. It's likely going to be another 40-60 hour game like Celceta is, but with graphics like a PS4 title. I'm in.

Hopefully XSEED will follow up their port of Seven with Celceta. Celceta is a good game, but would be amazing if given the 60 FPS/1440p (or even 4K) boost. Don't just use the Chinese port by Joyoland (it lacks some light/shadow effects), but rather start from scratch.

After VIII, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ys V (Kefin) get a retelling.

Chacranajxy: Bought. It's $60, because it's a new, non-indie game that's actually coming out day and date with the Steam release.

Also, Ys is awesome, and there's no way I'm not going to support GOG actually getting this.
Actually, I suspect the reason for the 60+ buck price tag is the fact that it's also being released on PS4, and they probably have some deal with Sony which won't allow them to sell it for less on PC. Same as the inflated base price of No Man's Sky.

Personally, I think around 40 Euro/Dollars would have been a more reasonable price point for what it is, so I'll wait for a sale. Which is probably just as well, since it gives the devs time to patch up any issues. Buying new games right at release is kind of a pain on GOG, due to the messy updates/notifications.

On the other hand, any hardcore Ys fans who buy this right away, at full price, probably help increase the odds of future Japanese releases here, so there's that.

Technically this doesn't have PS4 level visuals. Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Horizon -- those are native PS4 games with matching graphics/production values. This is more like a pimped up PS3 game.

For the record, I think the game looks pretty and I like the overall art direction, but objectively it's not on the same technical level as true AAA games. ( Which it is directly competing with, at that price point. )

Does it really have 40-60 hours of content? I've only played a few Ys games, but they all seemed shorter than that.

That price tag is obscene.

Yet another reason why I wish Sony would bankrupt itself and leave the gaming industry...
