The publisher explains the game will be better for it.

Publishers NIS America Inc. have decided to postpone the PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, which was originally planned for September 12.

In their note to the community they said:
"We regret to inform everyone that the release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA on PC has been pushed back due to continued efforts in improving gameplay quality.

We sincerely apologize to our fans who have been looking forward to this release. Ultimately, our goal is for fans to enjoy a high-quality game. We are providing the extra care in the PC development of the game by taking time to enhance the overall quality of gameplay."

Recently, they elaborated on what's holding back the release saying:
"We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.
[...]
First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
- Random crashes
- Framerate
- Language-related issues

Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.
[...]
We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA"

amok: sorry, that made no sense to me at all... can you explain what you meant?

NovumZ: I doubt that.
What I don't doubt; is your deliberate sarcasm!
no, I honestly do not understand the problem, no sarcasm. It says "Day one release", that's all. I don't understand the problem.

paladin181: Glad I didn't pay $60 for a port of a port of a Vita game. People saying it's new aren't privy to the 2016 Japanese release apparently. And apparently porting from the Vita is hard... They can't pull it off.
avatar
amok: unprofessional in what way? that they refused to release a game when it was not ready, instead of rushing out a buggy mess just to hit a set date?

I wish more game companies where as unprofessional...

paladin181: Unprofessional is waiting until the day before launch to announce an indefinite delay. They knew it wasn't going to be ready. PS4 port of the Vita game went off without a hitch. Feels like the PC release was an after thought.
Aye, there is a communication problem ]there, and the port was probably not as easy to do as they expected. But I am still not sure what is so unprofessional about not releasing a bugged port just to hit a deadline? If PC was just an after thought, then they would have released the broken mess, they fact that they withheld it and work on it to make it work, is it not an indication that they do not?

At least Neir got released on time and a mod fixed it. I don't even know if this will released this year.

amok: So what you are basically saying is that in this case the professional thing would have been to rush a unfinished and buggfilled mess to hit the deadline, because gamers today are used to it and will just wait for patches?

I then can only repeat myself - I wish more game companies where as unprofessional...
... No? If it's not ready, then it's not ready, and they should take the time they need to fix it. But they should not advertise release dates if they aren't 100% sure they'll be able to meet them, they should not announce delays right on the day of release, and they certainly should not take money in advance with the promise of a polished game on the day of release, if they cannot keep those promises. ( And at this point apparently they can't even provide a new release date. )

That's what most people in this thread have been saying repeatedly, that's why people are upset about the situation, and that's what you seem to be ignoring for whatever reason.

As much as I like Nier Automata I prefer when games are fixed by their developers rather than by some mods, especially new, just released, games.

And even then, Nier still has several misc. issues that plague a large chunk of the userbase unrelated to the mod.

It's not the not releasing, but waiting until the literal 11th hour to make the announcement. I'm glad they offered unconditional refunds.

I really doubt it was an after thought. I'm pretty sure nihon falcom thought it was the best time to release it on pc too, as the only ports until now were psp ports made to pc (mostly).

If I have to guess, NISA can't handle the porting job right now.
I have to agree with everyone else. If there's a problem on the PC version, fine. Tell us at least a week or two ahead of time, not on the fucking DAY OF.

Communication is key, people.
Well, my PS4 copy has just shipped from Amazon so at least that one's not delayed at the last minute.
Bad timing, but ultimately a good decision. Games that are not ready yet, should not be released.
This is one of the hazards of pre-ordering and it is just one of the reasons why I don't go for pre-ordering.

I can understand preordering physical goods, especially in the case of a game that's going to have a limited physical run or has some kind of nifty collector's edition bullshit, but preordering digital goods is just bad practice as a whole. There's no physical good that's running out and the only risk to not preordering is usually missing some kind of dumb costume DLC that should have just been included by default, some kind of early preorder sale, or the chance to preload if you have really, really slow internet. Otherwise, you get nothing for reserving something digital
Just curious, has there been any news of the supposed PC demo for Ys VIII? I'd really like to purchase the game once it's released, but i have a strong feeling that it won't run on my computer even on the lowest settings.
So, any word on a new release date? We don't need it being in purgatory for ages the way CRAWL was.

Nothing yet. Supposedly, Durante was taking a look at the port, but nothing concrete has happened. I think there was supposed to be an update in the next week or so.
So any news anywhere on what is going on with the game? It has been almost a month and I haven't seen any answers.
