The publisher explains the game will be better for it.

Publishers NIS America Inc. have decided to postpone the PC release of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, which was originally planned for September 12.

In their note to the community they said:
"We regret to inform everyone that the release date for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA on PC has been pushed back due to continued efforts in improving gameplay quality.

We sincerely apologize to our fans who have been looking forward to this release. Ultimately, our goal is for fans to enjoy a high-quality game. We are providing the extra care in the PC development of the game by taking time to enhance the overall quality of gameplay."

Recently, they elaborated on what's holding back the release saying:
"We have been trying to resolve important gameplay issues that we feel would compromise the playability and stability of the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to fix those issues to our satisfaction before the launch.

The issues proved to be more complicated than we thought and we overestimated our ability to fix them in time. For that, we are truly sorry. We take full responsibility for these problems. Fans of this game and this series have let their expectations be known and we aim to achieve them.
[...]
First, we believe that the majority of the major control issues with Keyboard+Mouse and display/resolution-related issues have been taken care of.

Second, we will be prioritizing development resources in the following categories:
- Random crashes
- Framerate
- Language-related issues

Fixing the above may result in additional issues that arise, but we feel that we must prioritize our focus on these three.
[...]
We want to assure you that we are doing our very best to deliver a stable game for everyone who wants to play Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, regardless of platform.

Thank you very much.
NISA"

Anyone who has already pre-ordered the game on GOG.com and wishes to ask for a refund can contact our support team directly.

We will be updating this post with the new release date, once it is provided.

liamphoenix: To buy?

Yes, it is avaiable.

To play?

Nope, there's a red "Not Yet Available" where you'd normally install it through Galaxy, and none of the files can be downloaded from the website either.

Gurlok: Thanks for replying. But then, what did they mean with "GOG version went live"?
No idea, but I wish I had downloaded it when it was.

I'd deal with a crashy game, I do betas often enough, and with my Vita copy delayed in the mail...
Why do I get the feeling this is just a trick so we would get the console version.

gibbeynator: NISA has offered full, no questions asked refunds for anyone who wants them. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to do this, what they did was unacceptable and HIGHLY unprofessional and they deserve to be punished for it.
unprofessional in what way? that they refused to release a game when it was not ready, instead of rushing out a buggy mess just to hit a set date?

I wish more game companies where as unprofessional...

Unprofessional in the sense that maybe they shouldn't have waited until the last minute for this delay announcement? Or the fact that people payed up front, and now they don't even know when the game will be released on PC?

Besides, if a game release nowadays is delayed, it's not done for the sake of the customers, but to protect their own asses. We're at a point where most gamers fully expect a new release to require several patches. If a game is so broken, they can't even release it in its current state, changes are they're worried about their own reputation, and the backlash ( and refunds ) they'd have to deal with.

What do we have to do to get a refund ? I've spent all day trying to get it but the support service don't want to refund me.

@charles grey: your are 100% right... it happen years ago, and it will never stop, this kind of 'practice' will keep on going on till kingdom come....

i googled: "never relased games because of to many bugs"

which isnt exactly a good way to search but even with this one i got some nice results:

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/8-games-with-completely-broken-releases

8 Games With Completely Broken Releases

There have been games with broken releases before 2014. Here's just a few games that played host to some horrible bugs.

another one:

Stop Giving Excuses for Unfinished Games Being Released
http://nichegamer.com/2016/12/07/stop-giving-excuses-for-unfinished-games-being-released/

Opinion – Stop Selling Unfinished Games - Features ... - Game Informer
Incentive is to release broken unfinished games. - PlayStation
Why Are Game Developers Releasing Broken Games?
.................... and it goes on.............. :D

another quote:

" More often than not, blockbuster video games tend to ship incomplete ..."
Anyway, it is a 'mess' .... the good thing is, maybe only in my case that with the games i bought now and retail in the past , these games were playable till the end and i never had to patch anything :

jagged alliance, fallout classic 1+2 + tactics , baldurs gates, commandos etc etc etc
Its the big boys, big shooters all that famous console and pc games that seem to be having all these 'problems'
plus all the japanese themed games are always having 'release problems' because of instability and bugs....

this way the media will be spending extra attention because they want to know omg what is going on with all these 'bugs' , so in a way it is lots and lots of free promotion and they pulled that one even 20 years ago and longer, except they didnt use internet because it was not that common back then, but all magazines (the good old paper ones) were full of it... all extra free advertising for these games in a way , and the developers/publisher got it all free.

Waiting last minute and then telling us it will be delay is worst than releasing a buggy game and we don't know the release date.

Click the support link on the story, go to the Orders section, then choose Cancel Pre-Orders from the drop down. They'll send you an email to the email you created an account with asking if you want the money for cash refund or wallet funds.

So what you are basically saying is that in this case the professional thing would have been to rush a unfinished and buggfilled mess to hit the deadline, because gamers today are used to it and will just wait for patches?

I then can only repeat myself - I wish more game companies where as unprofessional...

sorry, that made no sense to me at all... can you explain what you meant?
Glad I didn't pay $60 for a port of a port of a Vita game. People saying it's new aren't privy to the 2016 Japanese release apparently. And apparently porting from the Vita is hard... They can't pull it off.

Unprofessional is waiting until the day before launch to announce an indefinite delay. They knew it wasn't going to be ready. PS4 port of the Vita game went off without a hitch. Feels like the PC release was an after thought.

I doubt that.
What I don't doubt; is your deliberate sarcasm!
