Fun right off the bat!

UPDATE: The Linux version for the Toybox is now also available.

Yooka-Laylee, the delightful action/platformer starring a chatty bat and a cute chameleon, is now available for pre-order, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it now to receive the neat Toybox as a free pre-order bonus, available immediately.

The world's literature is in need of some good old-fashioned saving and there are only two creatures that can pull this off: Yooka (the loveable lizard thing) and Laylee (the talkative bat)! In their grand adventure, the duo will cross paths with a cast of oddball characters, including an evil-looking duck, an entrepreneurial snake in trousers, and a certain Knight that everybody digs.

Designed as a spiritual successor to beloved platformers of yore like the Donkey Kong Country games and Banjo-Kazooie, and developed by a team consisting of several alumni of these classics, Yooka-Laylee carries many of their signature sensibilities and offbeat humor. You will explore vast and beautiful worlds, combine the duo's unique powers, and overcome imaginative puzzles and platforming challenges, trying to stop Capital B's malevolent plans. Scooping up the crazy collectibles scattered all over the place might be a good start in that direction.

Pre-order Yooka-Laylee and prepare to spread colorful mischief across more than five worlds full of platforming goodness, DRM-free on GOG.com. Or crank the cuteness factor up to eleven with the Deluxe Edition upgrade, which includes the soundtrack and a wonderful artbook.
Get the game now to receive the Toybox as a free pre-order bonus, available to play immediately.

Haha, that gameplay! xD If I was only a decade or two younger... =)
Great looking game! But no linux version. Again. Why GOG, why? Is this a choice made by the devs or you? Could you please tell us reasoning behind this?
It looks silly and over-priced TO ME. I am not interested, just, the Linux version missing here and available elsewhere is not something I like, generally speaking. Because I want to buy here on GOG only, and I can't see a reason why the Linux version should not be available. Do the devs think that Linux users are bad people? That they smell of rancid sweat and contraband cigars and don't buy games? That linux gamers here are a niche in the niche so it's not worth the hassle?

Never too old to have fun. :)

Yes. I hear they also block parking spaces, like to drown baby kittens and rock out to Justin Bieber.

pbnjoe: The game looks nice and evocative of gaming days past and, manual thing aside, I'm interested in picking it up when it comes out, but it's really getting aggravating to find that the game has a Linux version elsewhere but not here.
Relax Linux version is coming...

tammerwhisk: How about coughing up a source huh? Cause I hate to break it to you DRM-free doesn't matter to a lot of people (the bulk of gamers unfortunately). Steam has over 125 million active users (according to various news articles). The survery on said service for said users has 55% with 8GB of RAM or more. Hell 92~% of Steam users have more than the "2GB" that was your initial claim. As for your other claim only 1.25% of Steam is on XP.

So judging by the (sadly) dominant platform I ask where the hell are you getting your numbers and why do you think they are relevant? The minimum requirements on this are very very low end for you know gaming. It doesn't matter that some business somewhere has a bunch of junk workstations or whatever since those people aren't likely to drop 30+ on videogames.
Ok, so 55% have 8GB or better. Now only 21% of them meet the cpu 3.3Ghz requirement. The 4 cpus percentage is just stating a quad core cpu. Not the speed. So that's unknown. Now we know not all 21% of those gamers are going to be interested in this game. Even if half of them purchase this game. That's 10.5%. The developer has missed out on a large portion of the gaming community. At least for PC, Linux, and Mac. That's not good marketing wise and that's hoping half of them purchase this game. Hopefully sales pick up on PS4, Nintendo, and Xbox. If it does come out for all three of those systems.

As for DRM Free. You're telling me this on a DRM Free site? Why else do think think people like GOG. Well, one reason anyway.

Frequency isn't as big of a deal as architecture and model. In the case of the minimums the 2500K is outclassed by i3s anymore.

And you completely ignore the lost interest and sales if devs design their games solely around the limits of the "toaster" demographic. It would hinder the development and scope of projects to worry about a small demographic that for whatever reason is clinging to more than 6 year old hardware (and really how much is that demographic going to drop $40+ on games).

I thought it was necessary after your statements about Steam. I don't even like Steam myself, but as far as PC gaming goes it's userbase is the most representative and the hardware stats the most accessible.
Thanks for the info!
I did not expect to see this here. I missed the kickstarter so this will be a definite pre-order.

Thanks for linking that! :)

I hope that what the rep says is the case, but that was a dumb decision if so... Not listing every platform the game will be on when announcing the pre-order phase because a little bonus isn't available at the moment doesn't make much sense and does nothing but draw ire.
Looks awesome, sadly, I'm probably going to buy this for the PS4 next year.
Not sure if anyone else noticed but the Toybox demo now has a Linux version!
