Fun right off the bat!

UPDATE: The Linux version for the Toybox is now also available.

Yooka-Laylee, the delightful action/platformer starring a chatty bat and a cute chameleon, is now available for pre-order, DRM-free on GOG.com. Get it now to receive the neat Toybox as a free pre-order bonus, available immediately.

The world's literature is in need of some good old-fashioned saving and there are only two creatures that can pull this off: Yooka (the loveable lizard thing) and Laylee (the talkative bat)! In their grand adventure, the duo will cross paths with a cast of oddball characters, including an evil-looking duck, an entrepreneurial snake in trousers, and a certain Knight that everybody digs.

Designed as a spiritual successor to beloved platformers of yore like the Donkey Kong Country games and Banjo-Kazooie, and developed by a team consisting of several alumni of these classics, Yooka-Laylee carries many of their signature sensibilities and offbeat humor. You will explore vast and beautiful worlds, combine the duo's unique powers, and overcome imaginative puzzles and platforming challenges, trying to stop Capital B's malevolent plans. Scooping up the crazy collectibles scattered all over the place might be a good start in that direction.

Pre-order Yooka-Laylee and prepare to spread colorful mischief across more than five worlds full of platforming goodness, DRM-free on GOG.com. Or crank the cuteness factor up to eleven with the Deluxe Edition upgrade, which includes the soundtrack and a wonderful artbook.
Get the game now to receive the Toybox as a free pre-order bonus, available to play immediately.

Looks fun, another game that goes to my wishlist. Many interesting releases lately.
low rated
I don't see the problem in charging for a manual. Nowadays almost every game has an ingame tutorial. A manual might be nice to look at, like on an artbook, but like a artbook it is not really necessary to learn how to play the game.

My problem with the game is, that the look of the game is a bit too childish for me.

GOG.com: snip
Looks shiny. I'll wait to add it to my wishlist cause I don't get points during sales if I do it now. :P

I didn't notice it's a pre-order :P I had no interest in buying it, so I didn't pay much attention.

What's the word on when Kickstarter and PayPal backers can redeem the game on GOG?

I know it's a ways off from being released but is there a reason that there is no mention of Linux ? Steam lists Linux support, is GOG going to have the Linux version ?
Looks like a Bandicoot and a Hedgehog got together and had a Chameleon love child.

It's going on my list, no question about that, but not at the top of it.
Interesting but not my kind of game.

With regard to the manual being offered only in the deluxe version, since it is in digital format, I believe it should be included in the base game as well. Also, you would think a developer would only create a manual if they believed it would be helpful to customers that are trying to lean how to play the game. So, the manual should be included in all versions of the game.

Very cool. I hope GOG gets patches in a reasonable time though.
Definitely goes into my wishlist. Also, interesting that pre-ordering gives you instant access to Toy Box mode, it's not enough for me to open my wallet this far from the release date, but at least you get something for pre-ordering.
I thought the Toybox was a Kickstarter Backer Exclusive. The reason I thought that is because that is what they said in the Kickstarter. They also show it again right at the beginning of the trailer video for the Toybox. I understand that people will bitch if someone gets something that they can't have, but why lie to your backers and tell them they're getting something exclusive and then make it available to everyone? Ugh, the whole industry landscape is changing, some for good some for bad, but I honestly am starting to get sick of pre-order bonuses, backer exclusives (which almost never are exclusive), day 1 DLC, etc.

Okay, gripe over. I was broke during the Kickstarter which sucks because I could have saved a significant chunk of change if I'd backed this game, but I'm so happy that it's being released. This is the type of game I can have tons of fun playing and nostalgia tripping by myself, or take turns with my wife and three-year-old. I think I'll buy two copies, one DRM-free here on GOG and the other for the Wii U since its my son's favorite way to game. And props to the devs for including the Linux version!
Those system requirements look ridiculous. Tone it down and target a bigger audience. I personally don't need my games looking like the next Pixar animation. Or even life like depending on the style of the game.

Looks awesome. I don't do that pre-order thing, but good to know we have an official GOG release date, even if it's still a few months off. It's funny, but looking at the comments here, you can easily tell who owned a console during the golden age of 3D Jump'n'Runs, and who obviously didn't. I too played most of Rare's masterpieces, such as Banjo & Kazooie, or Conker's Bad Fur Day, during my youth, so I look forward to this. Been a while since I played this type of game, and on PC the genre is almost non-existent. If they manage to capture the essence of their own classic games ( and so far it looks promising ), then this should turn out to be pure gaming bliss.

What about the reqs? A GTS450 and a 6 year old processor hardly strike me as high-end hardware, and 8GB of RAM have been the standard for years now. And what's wrong with a playable Pixar animation? Sounds pretty cool to me.

Unless they mess up on the optimization front, this should run fine on any halfway decent gaming PC.

For something completely different: Regarding the outrage about the "manual" bonus item, I suspect this is mostly bad choice of words on their part. This doesn't seem to be a manual in the traditional sense, but more of an art-book, combined with some gameplay related tips and info about the game world and characters. So it's a nice bonus goodie, but not something you actually need to understand the game. It's not like we're talking about a complex strategy game or RPG here.
