West wide story.

<span class="bold">World to the West</span>, an adorable top-down action adventure, is now available for pre-order DRM-free on GOG.com with a whole bunch of pre-order bonuses: a 20% discount + the game's OST + a FREE copy of its predecessor <span class="bold">Teslagrad</span>!

Four characters with distinct skills and personalities are on a journey to escape the ancient prophecy that hounds them. A journey that will take them through deceptively cute environments, where hero-eating beasts, dark secrets, and whimsical encounters abound.

The pre-order bonuses will last until the game's expected release on May 5.

Watch the trailer.

Instapreorder once the discount comes online. Teslagrad was GOTY'13 for me.

edit: also, GOG, the WttW link is broken. It's https://www.gog.com/game/world_to_the_west_preorder .

I can't go to the store page https://www.gog.com/game/the_world_to_the_west_preorder. I land on https://www.gog.com/games every time.

Is the offer region locked?

edit: Ah, thanks Starmaker.

No, it's not. It's broken for everyone.
Link fixed.
I got curious and checked the video.... but it's a game that uses vector/voxel or other weird graphics to generate characters, these are okay for casualgames like Braveland (i really like those small games) and other small casualgames, but being a classic old time gamer i grew up with bitmap/pixel graphcis and somehow i can't get used to the fact games like these are flooding the internet.

As a fan of old good games like fallout, jagged alliance and all good old games, i have to pass on this one, and the 10 or 12 other upcoming games which have same style of graphics and most are 3d of fpp.

i have to pass on all the upcoming games:

Pinstripe , Little Nightmares, World to the West...Kingdoms & Castles
Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs ...
Strafe
Expeditions: Viking
Planet Nomads, Lock's Quest , The Universim IN DEV
Nine Parchments, ELEX ,Blitzkrieg 3 , SpellForce 3, Sunless Skies , State of Mind
Outlast 2, The Long Journey Home, The Guild 3, Need to Know, System Shock
Soul Saga , Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice , AER, Battle Chasers: Nightwar
Perception, Sundered

So i hope wadjet eye to release some new games soon cause i need more games ...........:D
Now that's a strong incentive to pre-order, giving away both the soundtrack & a full game. While i don't like pre-ordering, in this case i applaud the devs/pubs for their business plan. If i remember correctly, such was the case with the recent I̶n̶s̶i̶d̶e̶ Little Nightmares game.

What did you like about Teslagrad? I've had it in my library for ages but still haven't played it.

As for World to the West, this looks really interesting. Will most likely pick it up at release.

We've had some good new 2D releases too. Pick up Thimbleweed Park and Night in the Woods, if you haven't already played them.

This game looks interesting because of the last 3 releases here, this seems like it has actual story and character.
I don't know Teslagrad - why do you like it so much, does it have a good story?

yup, i also checked the AGS forum where someone already posted a few screenshots from another game ( non wadjet eye)

I do hope that the 1024x768 will always be supported cause my old crt only supports max 1280x768 (75hz)

i read this:

Choose a male or female protagonist

Three playable origin stories

Branching storyline

A total of four companion characters to choose from, each with their own talents and abilities.

Twice the resolution of a typical Wadjet Eye Game!

All the usual guff – voice acting, commentary, original music, etc

So i hope we will get the same AGS engine with adjustable resolutions like the other games had.
I found a dev video of the game:

go to youtube and search for : Unavowed devstream!

Unavowed devstream!

Thanks, i already have Thimbleweed Park, i got it when it was available , also pre-ordered Full Throttle remastered
and already playing that game aswell...
(the HD is getting crowded so i have to actually finish some games and the uninstall them, i have like 80 games installed and i play them a few times , so i guess it will take a long while before i finish all the games i bought last year and this year)

Everything except that #$&#@^*&ing tree.

- Excellent, convenient, responsive controls (I 100%ed the game with both keyboard and the xbox controller, never had problems),
- checkpoints everywhere but never unwanted, never mess up your game,
- kid-friendly deaths and lightning-fast reloads,
- awesomifying meaningful items,
- easy but satisfying puzzles,
- fun boss battles,
- collectables, and you'll know when you've found everything (ideal for completionists who want everything in a single playthrough),
- low system requirements and amazing performance,
- excellent 2D high-res art and writing (well, "visual storytelling" -- no corny shit to mess up and epic story),
- adorable protagonist (d'awww!),
- Linux version!

What's MAYBE not good (YMMV):
- It's short. I'd say that, artistically, the game would be worse if it were longer, but it can be completed in a single sitting, and dollars per hour is a factor for some.
- It's not a metroidvania. The available areas unlock sequentially, then you do a second sweep to get all collectibles, then dispose of the final boss.
- Not much room for a speedrunner to show off. Replayability hinges on its length (short), difficulty (easy) and overall delightfulness.
- The #$&^#%@$^%ing tree. (There's an area in the game intended to be serene and peaceful in which you cannot die, due to the absence of mortal dangers, where you need to climb to the top of a large tree. A reload from a checkpoint only happens on death, so falling means restarting the climb from the ground. Serene and peaceful my @$$.) No YMMV on this. $%^& this tree.
It seems that if you already own Teslagrad, you won't get a gift code for it. Kind of disappointing, considering that you can get a gift code for Inside by preordering Little Nightmares despite those games being unrelated.

Still, the discount and free soundtrack are nice.

(See above for other reasons.) The story is simple but effective and awesome; heartwarming and epic at the same time. Reminds me of (the good versions of) Loom in its elegance. There are no words in the game except some gratuitous encoded Norwegian in backround art. Games with cheapass writing generally fail in predictable ways: abstract evil (so you don't care) and abstract good (so you realize your character was full of shit all along). Teslagrad is awesome through and through.
