dtgreene: 3. Get rid of the sexist limit on female strength.
avatar
GameRager: It isn't necessarily s*xist.....a decent number of females(biological) are physically weaker than men(of course there are exceptions).

Maybe make it so that any female character that is a bodybuilder type is as strong or stronger than men to make it fair/more accurate? And maybe give female characters aspects/better levels in the main skills they're better at on average as well(like anything having to do with empathy/etc)?
It's sexist as implemented, and the simplest fix would be to make stat caps not be dependent on gender at all. (Remember that there's no notion of "bodybuilder type" in the Pool of Radiance series (unless you count the Fighter class, but even that class (and Paladin and Ranger in the sequels) has the extra advantage of exceptional strength, which reflects this enough.) Also, I don't think the aspects you mention that female characters would be supposedly better at are present in the game at all.

Also, I could point out that having the rule reinforces gender stereotypes, and punishes players who like to play around with gender roles. (In other words, the rule limits the player's options rather than expanding them, and there's no balance case to be made here.)

(In Wasteland, the only things affected by gender are bathrooms and whether you can buy sex from a certain prostitute (if I understand correctly what's going on there).)

Edit: Why the low rating?

It might be seen as such, but it is accurate to IRL(most cis females are weaker overall than men, unless they train for such).

I agree there shouldn't be caps on such, though**, unless males have some sort of cap to balance it out

(**=Maybe lesser base stats at most, but no caps)

dtgreene: Also, I don't think the aspects you mention that female characters would be supposedly better at are present in the game at all.
I was spitballing that bit, so other changes might be better than what I suggested(to give female characters an edge over male ones to be fair).

One could play the other gender then, for games with such in them....or mod the game is possible/allowed.

They enforce bathrooms in a wasteland? Really? That seems odd, to say the least....like are there bathroom police or some such? o.0

That doesn't solve the problem.

I don't remember how the game enforces this, but the manual does mention it.

In any case, I don't think there's anything important to be found in any bathrooms, anyway.

Now, if only there were a lesbian prostitute...

It's not that much of a problem, though. You want to talk problems? How about how women are treated in most of the middle east? This is nothing to worry about.

Someone could also mod that in, maybe.

HunchBluntley: The Forgotten Realms series? A pretty decent chunk of all official D&D games to date have used that setting. ;)

gog2002x: Well mainly Pool of Radiance series (Curse of Azure Bonds, Secret of Silver Blades, etc), they are some of the early computer games that got me into PC gaming. It's hard to forget the ones that started it all for us.

Though it's not always easy to go back and play them after all these years with more modern RPG games coming out all the time.
Yeah, that's one of the main reasons why I've almost never bought anything on GOG that I played back in the day: realistically, I probably wouldn't play most of the oldies much because of the UI, controls, basic/janky gameplay, etc., which have often been improved on in more recent games. (Also, I still own almost all that I might actually wish to play again, so it'd just be a matter of digging out my physical media and figuring out how to install on my modern-ish laptop.)
In other words: My nostalgia goggles, they do nothing! :P
No Linux version? I suppose we should have expected that, after M$ swallowed inXile. Not interested then.

Sadly they took this direction long before selling themselves to Microsoft…
I’m not even sure they have had any Linux people at all since tonurics left, and am almost certain they send all work related to Linux to a third party now.

At least they did that, but they weren't willing to pay Krome for making Linux releases.

Well, I did end buying most of the old games for nostalgia reasons, except for a few that seems to have too many issues. I likely still buy a few here and there, but mostly in support of GOG. If not for them, I wouldn't even have the opportunity as it's almost impossible to get them in retail. Unfortunately, my nostalgia goggles seems to do the opposite 1/2 the time lol.

Once in a blue moon I may still play them, but you're right though, with more modern games out there's just not enough time to even go back.

dtgreene: If Pool of Radiance gets remastered, there are 3 things that I would really like to be changed:
1. Make it so that you don't need to re-select spells to memorize every time you cast them and want to get them back by resting.
2. Add an option to auto-cast healing spells on rest. (1 and 2 together would solve the healing issue the game has, at least outside of combat.)
3. Get rid of the sexist limit on female strength.

(There's other things they could change, of course, like adding an option to remove or at least greatly increase the level caps for non-humans (and by "greatly increase", I mean increasing it to at least the 20s, so such characters are viable in Pools of Darkness.)
I like all those ideas, it'll be a dream come true if it really happens.

p.s. How the heck do you snip replies? lol

Well, I don´t know if you knew about this, but there is NWN2 mod as a complete Pool of Radiance Remaster.

But then it's no longer the same game. (In particular, it's no longer turn based.)

I've heard about an Unlimited Adventures mod that's a remake of Pool of Radiance, and it likely fixes problems 1 and 2, but not 3.

(Also, if you own Pool of Radiance but not Unlimited Adventures, you goet it from somewhere other than GOG.)

Simply delete what you don't want to quote.
Just take care, that each opening of a quote (quote_x) has a closing counterpart (/quote).

Annoyingly, if you fail to do this, you won't get a nice error message; rather, it will look like it's going to post, but never succeed and will keep looping forever. Furthermore, there's no way to cancel in order to fix the issue without losing what you typed (unless you have a copy on the clipboard, of course).

I'll have to test it out when I have a bit more time to spend on GOG.

Thanks for the tip! :)
