Is there an official ETA for Transport Fever yet?

Should be 8th on November.

As with every preorder, the release date is the same day the preorder period ends, which is announced in the OP.
Looks like the "Train Fever owner" discount has been applied now since it's showing as 25% off for me now.

sanscript: Sadly, no. TT, TTD, and now OpenTTD had/have something special that most transportation sims don't seem to match.

mistermumbles: You mean a really dated and awkward UI? =P As great as it is that the game is still going in some form, the UI could use a facelift.
I prefer to have my UI's to be unbeatable old 'n awkward, thank you :p

But you're right - they could have given it a much needed facelift, or the grf-sets, if they wanted to that is... The only reason that they don't is mainly because of nostalgia and fading (ab)users.

Matewis: Modders have done some amazing things with openttd. There's even one in which the passenger/mail system is upgraded so that passengers/mail have specific destinations.
Just like it works in Simutrans? Interesting. Maybe I should play some OpenTTD again. I only need a mod which disables the local authorities ...
NOTE(S) TO SELF:
-Give OpenTTD some serious playtime for Pete's sake
-Follow the progress of this newborn baby, it might turn out to be a nice person once it grow up

They have available a 32bit graphic set available for OpenTTD. It makes it nice and smooth and as far as I can tell about 4 times bigger than the pixilated set that was originally made.

Are you talking about NewGRF?

When you are installing it gives the option to download the 32 bit graphics. It doesn't turn them on by default but when you do, WOW! It might even be included already, I don't remeber, but turning them on was a plesent surprise.

Are the graphics scalable?

I know that fully zoomed in the original graphics are a horid mess but the zBase, the 32 bit option, are smooth and clear. here is the load windo in both modes. You can deffinitely see the difference.

Sounds interesting! Is there a way to download this from the OpenTTD site manually? When I look under downloads, it only lists the main binary and OpenGFX/OpenSFX/OpenMSX.

Exactly my thoughts. :) This game looks promising, but still has to prove if it's game-play mechanisms are solid enough. And I have to wait for a new PC anyway to fulfill the hardware requirements.

But once again I started to play OpenTTD, got overruled by local authorities quite soon, switched to Simutrans and lost the rest of the day playing that. ;)

Yeah local authorities can be a drag. I try to identify towns early on where I'd like to do some landscaping later on, and then provide them with rudimentary public transport to steadily increast my reputation over the years.

I've tried Simutrans, but for some reason the look puts me off. There is a certain charm to TTD's presentation that always pulls me back to it.
