Master of puppets.

Shadows: Awakening is now available for pre-order, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 20% discount plus the game's Soundtrack and Artbook as pre-order bonuses.
Return to the world of the Heretic Kingdoms as the Devourer, a demon able to consume and control the souls of long-dead heroes for his own purposes. As you conquer the dungeons of this dark isometric action/RPG, a fateful choice will emerge: will you use your formidable powers to prevent the world from coming undone, or will you facilitate its downfall?

GR00T: If memory serves, there was supposed to be a big expansion/DLC to Heretic Kingdoms which you'd get for free if you owned HK. Then they decided to go with an entirely new 'remaster'/expansion combination. So they promised owners of HK that they'd get this one for free. Something along those lines, anyway.
Ok, so it's like the Dragon Knight Saga for Divinity 2. Thanks

Exhodos: Hi, Why is it given to Heretic Kingdoms owners, is that a remaster? In other words, should I buy Heretic Kingdom if I want to buy Awakening for the continuity of the story (regardless of the price) or is it included in this new opus?

IIRC:

Heretic Kingdoms was supposed to be released in two parts - Book I and Book II. When the first part was released, the purchase was said to include both parts: Book I immediately, and Book II later.

However, the developer and publisher had some sort of legal dispute, and work on the second part (and patches for the first part) had to be suspended while the matter was settled in court.

Edit - Here, straight from the game page for Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms:

"Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms comes in two parts. The first one, Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms Book I: Devourer of Souls, is available right now. The second one, Book II: Age of Demons, is coming soon."

Thanks, that sounds right. More accurate than I recalled at least. :)
If I want to play the story in order what is the right sequence? There seems to be many titles for this saga.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as Kult: Heretic Kingdoms) followed by Shadows: Awakening.

Vikings -The Wolves of Midgard is not part of the Heretic series. Hope this helps.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition
Shadows: Awakening

As for Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, you can safely ignore it as it looks like it will be nothing more than an inferior version of Shadows: Awakening.

Thanks! Vikings - The Wolves of Midgard shares the same universe or is totally unrelated? And Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms how it fits into the continuity?

So... When will I know if I need to buy this or not, since I own Heretic Kingdoms and Inquisition?

I think there was a cut-off date of purchase for when you'd receive Awakenings for free, so depends when you bought Kingdoms..

Pretty much as soon as it was released.

Anybody who owns Heretic Kingdoms gets Awakening there is no cut off date or any limitiations. Its an apology from the developer cause they never delivered the full Heretic Kingdoms.

Really, where is your evidence for that? I was posted a link during the sale (winter possibly) when it was on special, stating that only purchasers of the game up to a certain date would get this one for free. Will see if I can find the post. As I would have brought it then as it was half the price of now even with discount.

Quote:"Shadows: Awakening heralds the continuation of the Heretic Kingdoms saga, last seen in Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms. Long-time fans and legacy players of the PC version will remember that the long-awaited ‘Book 2’ sequel never materialized. Kalypso Media and Games Farm are therefore excited to reveal that Shadows: Awakening will not only bring the story of ‘Book 2’ to life, but will also combine it with the original storyline, making Shadows: Awakening not a sequel, but a full and completed experience; improved and re-worked to take full advantage of today’s console and PC technology. Additionally, owners of the original Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms will no doubt remember that they were promised ‘Book 2’ free of charge. Kalypso Media and Games Farm are happy to confirm that they will uphold their promise to reward these long-time fans – with all owners of the Steam and GOG versions of Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms eligible to receive Shadows: Awakening as an update to their existing game, completely free of charge.

There's an old post here that seems to indicate all GOG owners of Kingdoms would get the game. However, I seem to recall there being a cut-off date for that as well.

It might be the day when they changed to Kalypso as publisher but nothing I could found about that.

As for the post you mentioned its not an old post its the game announcement.
