Tizoc789: Doesn't seem like the 50% discount is active yet as I'm still seeing $20.

The enhancements are pretty good imo so I'll be grabbing it once the discount becomes active.
For me the game has become discounted as soon as I’ve put it in cart.

XYCat: Wait what? What exactly's remastered about this?
The price ?
I wish they could remaster the original Sam and Max.
Now we finally know who bought the Sam and Max license and I am sure if this runs well we can expect the other two seasons as well. Watching the trailer the remastering lools really nice.

Vainamoinen: and in one case they switched out a voice actor entirely.

VanishedOne:

They recast the voice actor for Bosco, because it was a black character voiced by a white actor, a creative decision that didn't exactly sit right with the team when they decided to revisit it.

VanishedOne: I'm wondering about the Venn diagram of people who like Sam & Max, people who prioritise inoffensiveness in comedy, people who believe voice actors should be the same races as their characters, and people who can find no other reason to dislike Bosco's portrayal of a black American.
Seriously? They changed the voice actor because his skin color wasn't good enough to portray a black character?
Wow. Racists much. I am thinking of a pass after reading this.

SumofOne: i have the first Sam & Max. Is this a renewed version of the second one that was released in episodes back in the day?
Correct, the first Telltale "Season" .

Ohhh anti-PC drama. How I missed this shit. Didn't the GOG mods outlaw hyperbolic politicized outrage some years ago?

I liked Joey Camen as Bosco, and I personally wouldn't have taken offense by just leaving his voice in. Then again, I'm not African American. I wouldn't have to listen to stereotypical speech patterns of my people being parodied by some white guy who probably finds this particular voiceover work of his rather icky 14 years later. Granted, Camen's in Fallout 76 and in Devil May Cry 5, he doesn't need validation or exposure from this early and rather lower budgeted game any more as well. I guess he's pretty OK with it.

Thanks, I'm in. ;)

That seems to be the plan judging from their website.

And yet Sam & Max still aren't voiced by an actual dog and a rabbit! No way I'm buying something so offensive!

Seriously though, I thought this looked kinda nice, even though not nearly enough to buy the game a second time, and with this kind of nonsense I wouldn't play it for free.

And of course now I browsed the complete website and discovered another thing that might interest others as well:

"If you bought the game directly from Telltale, we'll be able to offer you a Steam or GOG key for the original game, so you can take advantage of the 50% off deal for the remaster, but that's not quite set up yet. "

So those of us (like me) who bought directly at TTG back then will also get the 50% discount for the remastered version ... so better watch that website and/or their twitch channel.
I hear the original version had a bunch of game breaking glitches including characters disappearing, I guess those will be patched. And I suppose the Machinima bonus stuff won't be included at all this time around due to copyright and Machinima privating most of their YouTube videos last year.

This, word for word.

Bosco's original voice was perfectly fine. I don't care if a white guy voices a black character or the black guy voices the white... as long as the voices match the characters' personalities. Which they did.

This sort of decision is worse than useless, it's detrimental to the games.

Well those are some good news for me if I ever get past the Political Correctness™ crap. At the very least I want to grab a version that doesn't have online activation, which I couldn't from TTG's site because I couldn't login in their final days.

At least the longin should not be a problem anymore since the new company kept the TTG servers open. I still have access to all my TTG games.

Good to know, thank you. Now I can finally ask them to reset my password

I felt that Americans are getting ridiculous at this "Voice acting must match the race" thing. Even Japanese people already ridiculed this with how absurd it was. For example there's black characters in anime that was voiced by Japanese voice actors because finding African Japanese (that already very rare in Japan) that work as professional voice actor is almost or pretty much impossible. This also bring a question, if a show dubbed for other language do they need to hire someone with the same race as well?

I mean if they really want to push that kind ideology then the next thing they do is to use real dog and rabbit to voice Sam and Max.

This also remind me of hypocrisy of Hollywood. While they busy championing African American actresses and actors but they also royally shit on Asian American actors and actresses. Putting them in shitty stereotypical roles, that includes romance option. Asian females depicted as nothing more than a doormat housewife or trophy wife and Asian males in shit role and not worth it as romantic option. Even the director for the movie "Romeo Must Die" changed the ending because he felt that "Audience don't feel comfortable it if there's romance between Asian guy with black girl" I was like "holy shit man seriously? what kind of 1900s Jim Crow stone you crawled out from? Fucking racist bastard" and before some of you guys point out about Glenn in the Walking Dead it's still an exception because the writers knew all the characters are disposable and it's only one show.

Sorry for my rant. But I felt that this ridiculousness reaching to the point that a cartoony game like Sam and Max sounds SANE.

XYCat: Wait what? What exactly's remastered about this?
The graphics. They've definitely done something to the shading and probably improved the textures. Do an A B comparison and I'm sure you'll see the difference.
avatar
AB2012: WOW, what an "upgrade".

Original
"Remaster"

Nice wall textures there... Let me guess it'll be double the price too?

Edit: I paid £1.89 (£18.69 - 90% off) back in 2014, so even £15.49 -50% = £7.75 has quadrupled in price. Hard pass...
I mean, while I'm not going to rebuy it any time soon I think the remaster does look better. That wall texture is a good example of something that didn't really fit the art style very well. The new version looks a lot more cohesive and a lot more like the comic.
avatar
MarkoH01: Now we finally know who bought the Sam and Max license
We kind of already knew that, because the original unremastered versions were being sold on Steam by them for a while now.
