Impaler26: Another pointless HD version of a classic game - No Thanks!! :/

I already own the original version so i'm not buying this "HD version".
But... but.. new translation... remade visuals... nope? :(
To many, this is surely one of those pc underground classics that everyone should at least consider one time in their lives. An HD restoration is a no brainer for fans alike and newcomers, imho.

And let's not forget this very informative, uh, table of gamers and their games :P

According to that chart, I am "hardcore," but that is not really true. And I know that.

What the heck is that last category supposed to be? Is that "OA", and if so, what does it stand for?

(According to the chart, I must be a pan-spectrum gamer. I fall into all the categories at once!)

I Second the first question,
Regarding the second I assume Playing *Any* of the deeper level games will mark you as part of that level. Playing earlier won't pull you up though.

Crosmando: I remember playing this game for an hour or so a few years back, and literally feeling so uncomfortable that I stopped playing. Never had a game disturb me out so badly before (though that Silent Hill movie where the woman got roasted alive came close to that feeling). It's like the developers deliberately made a game which players would not "enjoy" but instead be completely weirded out by.
That's the charm of the game and dare I say, the weird mistranslation too. While I'm interesting in this, I don't think it's that necessary but I'm going to get it anyway, partly because I want to give money to IcePick Lodge so they can continue with their wonderfully weird games.

I've been there, from top to bottom. I'm the guy who plays every weird brick game (remember those?) like crazy but can't stand an online multiplayer Halo/CoD/whatever session :P

Ciris is carrying Judas' child. BAM!
Everyone, seriously, the "bad translations" (I consider it intentionally done this way) are PART OF THE GAME. It's SOOO weird. I don't know that I would like it with different translations or that you would get the same effect.

BUY the original NOW. Then get the HD upgrade 70% off if you want that. But I'd recommend the original first (of course, I haven't played the redo.)

Shirley, you can't be serious?! I get your point but it should be rather obvious by now that the mistranslation wasn't done intentionally.

What will happen to the original version? Will it remain in the catalogue or be replaced by the HD version?
If it's replaced will it then be included among the extras for the HD version (as is the case with the original version of Outcast)?

Don't call me Shirley!

Why is it obvious? It's not to me, but I never paid attention to any talk about the game really. Did they come out and say "sorry, we didn't mean for it to be that bad." ?

This isn't a "game" by the way, it is an interactive experience to be had by those who want to experience something different, who want or like to be pushed out of their comfort-zone comfortably (disturbed, really, but in the safety of your own home, where you can just turn it off if you need to), who like the bizarre and their minds messed with, and most of all, who like serious twisted darkness.

Yep, that's exactly what they did:
RPS: When I reviewed Pathologic for RPS the overwhelming response from the people who then went out and bought it was that they could glimpse what you were trying to do, but couldn’t bring themselves to face the drudgery and confusion of it and stopped playing after an hour or two. Is that something you were expecting when you made the game?

Aleksey: No, of course not. You see, “Pathologic” is just our first attempt, and it didn’t turn out like it was meant to be in many respects. It’s our lack of experience that stood in the way. The fact that Pathologic was developed as a “uncomfortable” game doesn’t forgive our game design mistakes. Or the horrible English translation, which we, unfortunately, didn’t have much influence over. With Tension/Turgor/The Void we decided to do the English translation in-house and pretty much succeeded — the people who played the Russian with English subtitles were positive about the quality (here I would like to thank hydra9 for all the help he offered with proof-reading and stylistic fixes! Without you, the translation wouldn’t be nearly as good! — The LxR). [my emphasis]

So, if we were to remake Pathologic (and we’re thinking about it) — we’d do a lot of things differently.

Some additional info:
Pathologic Classic HD will be available in English, Russian, and Polish, since the Polish translation, courtesy of Jakub and Aldona Derdziak, is widely regarded to be of high quality (unlike the original English one).

Now may be a good moment to reiterate that this is not the remake, which is still in the works, but rather a thing that we heartily call “Pathologic Classic HD: Now Comprehensible”.

— So, a new translation, huh?

Yes; the new translation was actually another major reason for this re-release.

See, we’ve promised the old Pathologic as a reward for some of our Kickstarter backers, and it was bugging us, too. We are still not entirely sure as to how our English-speaking players have managed to enjoy the game at all; sometimes the dialogue of the original release made no sense. We hesitated to offer this mangled beast as a reward to anyone, but after we did, it quickly became apparent that we cannot in good conscience simply provide them with the game as it was.

So we’ve endeavoured to at least make it readable—with the kind assistance from General Arcade and Gambitious. The translation effort was in-house, but we’re positive it wouldn’t have become possible without their guidance. And it was actually General Arcade that did the heavy visuals-updating lifting (thus winning our eternal gratitude).

[...]

There are also some perks available to the non-Russian-speaking gamers:

∙ you can finally find out what the hell happened there;
∙ like seriously, Maria used to say that there “is a ‘bog’ in ‘Utopia’” completely disregarding the fact that no, there isn’t;
∙ we mean it, some plotlines are obscure enough even with proper translation;
∙ you’ll also get to see restored content.
