dtgreene: The price is high enough that I wouldn't be willing to consider a game at that price unless it is exactly my favorite type of game. Basically, unless the game is a gameplay-focused turn-based RPG, I am not willing to spend this kind of money.

By pricing the game this high, it causes many people who might be interested in trying a game, but for whom it isn't their favorite type of game, to be priced out of buying it.

There are other issues, like the fact that the game is Windows only (so it would be a gamble if it works in WINE; if it doesn't, I'm out $60), the fact that it requires 8GB of RAM (so no playing it on a cheap laptop), and has only a Nvidia graphics card listed (say goodbye to playing this game on a system with integrated graphics).

In other words, the game's price and system requirements make it a non-option for anyone who isn't a serious gamer and who already likes that specific type of game.

Edit: Another thing: I have never heard of the company that made this game, so I have no idea whether this developer is a good developer, or whether it tends to put out buggy games, or games that are incomplete or have serious design flaws.
That applies for any game ever released under the same conditions. :v

If it's a true AAA title that works well and is fun then $60 is fine for 2016. We paid $40 for Baldur's Gate back in the late 90s, and 16+ years of inflation have occurred since then.

And I'd like to try a demo first. I don't mind plunking down that chunk of change if it's awesome, but a demo would go a long way toward making that decision.

Anyhoo, looks like my type of game. The real hit to the pocketbook will come from upgrading to a newer laptop, which needs to happen fairly soon anyway. But, um, it doesn't support joysticks? Am I missing that detail somewhere?

Actually, I think that, due to being an indie game from a company that does not appear to be established (no previous games on this site) and isn't of a well-known genre, $60 really is too much. The fans who will pay that much money just aren't there (or at least I don't *think* they are), and the ones who might otherwise be willing to try the game are put off by the price.

An indie game company should start off with a budget title, and only after that game does well, only then should the company consider charging more for the game.

You "should" be able to use a controller... I've never seen them demo it with mouse and keyboard actually. It's always been a PS4 controller via PC or PS4.

....as for fans and the price... I've been following this game for years and this game fulfills a game i dreamed up when i was 10...25 years ago... I personally pre-ordered both the "Explorers Edition" with GOG key and the Limited Edition PS4 version.

As a reminder, I've posted a few starter links for info for those that a are curious about the game... There are lots of vids and impressions and interviews. Think my first post was on page 3

Considering the years of effort they put into this, the fact you can explore an entire galaxy with 18 quintillion planets, the amount of replayability thanks to endless exploration, it's simply worth more than $60.

Also take into consideration inflation and the minimum wage. The price of everything is rising, so why not games? Also the minimum wage will be raised to $15 an hour soon. This game is worth 4 hours of a burger flipper's time. That's too little for what you get, and is completely unfair to the developers.

I say they raise the price to $100, as this would more adequately compensate the developers and encourage them to continue support for what's already an absolutely fantastic game. Anyone who is employed can completely afford that, and whining from the impoverished can be easily ignored.

I hope you all agree that this is a fair and reasonable course of action, and dig deeply into your wallets to support these awesome developers. Thank you. "

Dunno. If it's AAA quality from an indie developer, then why should the Indie part make it less AAA than if the same bits and bytes came from, say, Bioware or Bethesda? Good is good, period.

Honestly, I'm baffled by the whole "Too much for an indie title" shtick.
Game won't even be out for awhile yet.

It's way too soon to judge if the price is right or not.

We only know what they claim we'll be able to do in the game. No idea how close to the claims the actual game will be - yet..

No idea how the controls are. Are they customizable? How are the saves? How are naming conflicts handled (like, say I play offline most of hte time - or even all the time - and then decide to go online to 'sync up'. If things I've named how I like them conflict with how someone else named they same thing - perhaps earlier than I - but I was offline and my copy didn't see it till now - what happens?).

Etc., etc.

At this point the game is a lot of hype. It does all sound really cool. But what will it really be?

THAT is what I'm waiting for - to see what it actually is.Then I'll decide on my feelings about the price.
