No Man's Sky a science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available to pre-order now — DRM-free on GOG.com

Intergalactic travel changes the notion of time. Unimaginable speeds connect impossibly distant worlds, dilating lifetimes, blending generations. A round-trip may find your world aged and unrecognizable, separated from your loved ones, irrevocably alien. In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid and with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as our lifetimes are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — populated with explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.
The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means stand your ground in fight.
Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

The pre-order incentive for No Man's Sky includes the Horizon Omega ship — faster engines, better guns, all to kickstart your trip and help you survive longer on the interstellar journey.

Reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, available for pre-orders now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The game is scheduled to be released on June 21st in North America, June 22nd in Europe and Australia, and June 24th in the UK and Rest of World.

Tallima: Since it's all multiplayer, I doubt DRM is a big deal. The multiplayer service will be DRMed up to the nines.

Magmarock: It has single player. Says it right there.
It does, but the MP component has been advertised pretty big.

From the game page:
Share your journey - The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own...

I don't know exactly what that means. But I thought you'd be able to fly with and against others.
omg omg omg finally!!!!!!! super excited and super excited gog is getting it too!

The impression I got was that the "multiplayer" just involves an online discovery system where players can share the planets, creatures, etc. that they discover. Like when you go to a planet you might be told that the creatures on that planet are called Higgabumpusmuns because the first player who discovered them named them that. That's just my interpretation though.

Either way, the game only has single-player listed here and on Steam, so it's safe to say that any kind of traditional multiplayer (such as flying around with others) won't be included.

armajiro: It's pretty, but it's a procedurally generated endless universe. Picture in your mind Arena or Daggerfall (Elder Scrolls 1 & 2). Now picture Morrowind. Which would you rather play? A gigantic procedurally generated map, or a vastly smaller one, but one that is hand-crafted to have something interesting around every corner? Meh.
Except Morrowind doesn't have something interesting around every corner. For me, Morrowind ran out of steam rather quickly. Unless you're referring to a modded game as the vanilla game is dull as hell.

I have Morrowind wishlisted at the moment and it's only because of modding potential. No one should buy Morrowind for the base game.

This looks like a game for me. I like to explore large, beautiful worlds.
But selling a game at such a high price tag and not even providing a Linux version is really sad.
but...is there pizza out there?
low rated
So why should I buy here and not on Steam?

This is basically correct; however, they have said that you can meet other players, but that due to the distances and shear size of the universe it will be very rare. In theory this also means that IF you do finally find another player you should be able to fly around together.
Does anybody knows if this game has an actual plot, NPC to interact with or any kind of content to add some depth to the experience? Haven't seen to much stuff but it looks like some genderless avatar on a ship traversing the galaxy on LSD.

Just from what I've read, it seems that it's going to be more of your wasted avatar than actual interaction. I cant' see them putting in the NPC logic - but it sure would be nice.
For those who are clueless:

- There's no real MP, the devs said it many times that the chances of anyone bumpIng into another player is really, really slim. Everyone will start of on a different planet/system/galaxy/universe so there's that, although it has some hints of Dark Souls/Journey-esque type of experiences.

- It is a survival-exploration kind of game. You gather resources to upgrade you suit, your ship, your gun etc. Also there's NPCs, you can trade/sell/buy stuff, you can invade alien bases to gather stuff, you can mine planets to gather stuff, you can be a space pirate or a space cowboy or a explorer visiting various aliens planets discovering stuff and learning about the worlds and so on... however if you want something to focus on, there's the center of the galaxy, which is being called the "end game", so aim for that if you need to.

- Price is completely fine. Watch this.

Woolytoes: - There are a few similar games for less then half the price already, with Multiplayer, dedicated servers, Mac & Linux support incuded.
Which games? Dedicated server and Linux support sounds convincing.

SirPrimalform: I just looked up the dev and they are British, so it would seem the UK price is the 'base' price for once? I wonder if 'Muricans get FPP?
avatar
Grargar: I don't think so. The FPP only applies if a territory is paying higher than the region-free price.
Surely there's only a region-free price if it doesn't have regional pricing? If one territory is paying more than another, then by definition it has at least two regions...

I think I get what you're saying though. You mean the 'base' (US) price?
avatar
Maxvorstadt: Oh, so you pay money for nothing and get no chicks for free?
avatar
Lodium: money for nothing

I grew up with the song, so yes, I'm aware... : ]
(Also, "This video is not available. Sorry about that.")
I skipped Elite Dangerous because they dropped singleplayer from it. I knew this would have single-player but to see it come out on GOG was a pleasent suprise. I was going to buy if it was on Steam but I like GOG better. Can't wait for the 21st.
