No Man's Sky a science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available to pre-order now — DRM-free on GOG.com

Intergalactic travel changes the notion of time. Unimaginable speeds connect impossibly distant worlds, dilating lifetimes, blending generations. A round-trip may find your world aged and unrecognizable, separated from your loved ones, irrevocably alien. In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid and with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as our lifetimes are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — populated with explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.
The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means stand your ground in fight.
Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

The pre-order incentive for No Man's Sky includes the Horizon Omega ship — faster engines, better guns, all to kickstart your trip and help you survive longer on the interstellar journey.

Reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, available for pre-orders now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The game is scheduled to be released on June 21st in North America, June 22nd in Europe and Australia, and June 24th in the UK and Rest of World.

MxMedix: Think... Dark Souls where the actions of others might affect your game such as a someone naming a planet and it showing that name in your game.
"Welcome to planet Phal'us, just behind the Boo-Bee asteroid belt... "

The thing about Dark Souls is, From Software went for abstract gestures and a limited message system, and intentionally left out any direct chat, in-game messages, voice-chat etc., because they know damn well how that usually turns out...
Here's the thing, GOG: other than DRM-free, I expect "digital-only" games to be affordable, to an extent. No Man's Sky price? Not so, not at all. I would spend €70 on a boxed, DVD-based game. Maybe. This, I won't buy until it'll cost a dime.

It's not about fun, game hours or whatever: I won't spend that much on a digital-only game.
I didn't expect to see NMS on GOG. O_O

skeecher: I have confidence that the final release might turn out good, and that's from someone who's been let down in the way Star Citizen has gone and the lack of single player game on Elite Dangerous.
Good grief, SC's not even released and you already whine.

Yea, me either. Most welcome surprise.

obsidanse: Seriously, hand on heart, i couldnt give a fuck that i have to wait.
However... why is the country it's made in the last to receive it exactly?
Truly, America is the most petty country in the world.
If it's not first it's best, if it's not best it's toughest.
Get over it guys, move on.
Enjoy your head start darlings.
What a joke.
Pretty sure the US had no control over release dates.

You sound bitter. Sorry if it upsets you that we left the UK 200-odd years ago.

HunchBluntley: It's a pre-order, not an In Dev game.

Annyway, pretty suprised the game is headed here.
Was almost sure it was going to be a Ps4 exclusive.
Hmm, this game might be fun eventually, I tend to lilke exploration games.
The creatures shown in the demo are much too Earth-like to my taste. I won't explore deep space frozen as a popsicle for months or even years to run into a prehistoric world that took decoration classes from the art director of The Yellow Submarine. The composition of some of the stills come across like a 13 in-a-dozen airbrush pictures and some look much better. Fair enough, it still in development.
As noted before, the spaceship physics as shown are arcade-like at best and the ships themselves look uninspired.
At $70,- I expect far more from a game. Or is that the pay per hour to test this?
I am curious to see how it will develop and if it will survive after the hype has worn of.

I actually first noticed this game after clicking the "up and coming" tab. I had to look at it twice. I was like "wait a minuet. That game where you explore planets is going here to GOG! WTF. I'm looking forward to this one. I thought it was going to be one of those cloud and server based games like elite dangerous. I'm glade it's not this. This is my universe and I don't feel like sharing it.

Niggles: Couple of things -

Gaming prices. My impression - indie games are usually anywhere between $10-$30/35 (better known devs). AAA games somewhere around $40-50 USD. Here in Australia AAA games are usually $80+ (brick and mortar but digital isnt that really much different if the evil empire store is to be believed).

$42.99 USD
$68.99 AUD. (exchange via xe.com shows 58.44 if its to be believed)

Sorry BUT Is this a AAA game? .Im not the most tightass of gamers and will buy stuff at launch on occasion (hell i bought Diablo3 at launch.what a **** that was). Anyone else wondering at the pricing? (few fancy 3D graphics and "procedurally generated").

Anyone else not impressed?. hell The Witcher 3 was around $80-90 at release. what makes this game so good???

That is seriously taking the fucking piss and i thought GOG would have a) reasonably regional pricing - this is Activision level. b) What they are asking for is AAA pricing. Is this a AAA game or an indie one?.
I don't think you quite understand the term AAA and indie. FYI Witcher is an inexpedient game.

I'm probably not gonna play the game, I think it's not gonna be very good and a lot of people will be very disappointed and I also believe pre-orders suck - but it' still pretty cool that it's coming to GOG.com.

Wonder how they're gonna keep the multiplayer DRM-free though. Possibility to set up private servers maybe?

It looks really good but I've seen a couple of gameplay vídeos and it seems a bit... tedious.

IwubCheeze: The pre-order bonus is pretty retarded. "If you pre-order now, the can use this ship which will make the game easier". How is that an incentive exactly?
avatar
Konrad: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Different strokes I guess. I won't be using the ship, but I'd say this is a way better incentive than pre-order exclusive missions or something.
I can agree with this. Pre-order exclusive missions are just a disgusting practice in general. However, my gripe with bonuses like this Omega ship is they disrupt the flow of the game. Part of the fun of games is progressing through available equipment. It's exciting to find something nifty during the course of the game that replaces your current equipment. Gathering equipment just to sell isn't that fun.

This was one of my main complaints about Morrowind (with Tribunal also installed). I started the game with the light armour skill. At the start of the game, a dark brotherhood guy attacks you, you kill him, get his armour and bam, one of the strongest armours in the game within the hour it took you to get off the prison ship. IIRC only glass armour was better but you don't find those pieces till much later in the game. A strong weapon also wasn't particularly hard to find in the beginning of the game either. WIth good armour and weapons available at the beginning areas of the game, anything else you found was probably just going to be sold (assuming you could as the vendors had little cash). This is just part of what destroyed the game for me but saying more will just be me getting off topic.

I just want devs to realize that adding pre-order bonuses that take away from their progression system actually hurt the game.

Now that it comes to GOG I'm interested in the game, I won't preorder it though.

foxworks: This game is right up my alley. So torn as I rarely buy day 1. *chin stroking*
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Since this wouldn't be a Day-1 purchase, you're all good. :-)
You're quite right. Problem solved ;-)
It's pretty, but it's a procedurally generated endless universe. Picture in your mind Arena or Daggerfall (Elder Scrolls 1 & 2). Now picture Morrowind. Which would you rather play? A gigantic procedurally generated map, or a vastly smaller one, but one that is hand-crafted to have something interesting around every corner? Meh.

trusteft: I was certain it was not going to be DRM-free so I was certain I wasn't going to play it, even though I want to.
I don't know if I will pre order it yet, but I can guarantee you I am going to buy it from GOG.
Thank you for bringing it here.

Question, any idea if there is going to be an offline version/option?

Tallima: Since it's all multiplayer, I doubt DRM is a big deal. The multiplayer service will be DRMed up to the nines.
It has single player. Says it right there.
