No Man's Sky a science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available to pre-order now — DRM-free on GOG.com

Intergalactic travel changes the notion of time. Unimaginable speeds connect impossibly distant worlds, dilating lifetimes, blending generations. A round-trip may find your world aged and unrecognizable, separated from your loved ones, irrevocably alien. In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid and with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as our lifetimes are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — populated with explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.
The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means stand your ground in fight.
Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

The pre-order incentive for No Man's Sky includes the Horizon Omega ship — faster engines, better guns, all to kickstart your trip and help you survive longer on the interstellar journey.

trusteft: I was certain it was not going to be DRM-free so I was certain I wasn't going to play it, even though I want to.
I don't know if I will pre order it yet, but I can guarantee you I am going to buy it from GOG.
Thank you for bringing it here.

Question, any idea if there is going to be an offline version/option?
avatar
Konrad: Yup, the DRM-free release is going to feature the full set of online features and all, but you'll also be able to play it offline. :)
avatar
Barry_Woodward: Have we had a release with a regional roll-out like that before?
avatar
Konrad: Nope, this is a first. I'm pretty sure this is meant to coincide with brick-and-mortar release dates.
Fecking hell, GOG has gone loopy. £40 for a pre-order I have never heard of, allow me to attach bells to the other one for you??
Looks really cool, very nice release for GOG... more day one AAA games like this is what we need. Planning to get a new PC hopefully by then and this will likely be one of my first purchases for it.
Hmm... I really dislike the floating, ethereal and seemingly weightless, movement when the player is (apparently) walking on the planet's surface. That and the price and pre-order incentive, obviously.
avatar
MxMedix: This one in fact doesn't seem evil in any way...
It's evil because it's exclusive.

avatar
MxMedix: this bonus is the same bonus that steam is offering which seems to mean that no matter when or where you pre-order, you'll get the same bonus.
I don't blame GOG.

avatar
MxMedix: It's a "thank you" for buying the game early.
"We're so grateful you bought the game we promise to dick over your friend." No. Just no. After a game with exclusives releases and is good, I feel bad recommending it to people. "I got a better deal that you will never be able to get, but you should still buy it at full price."

Edit:
avatar
HunchBluntley: It doesn't even sound like it's actually an exclusive, going solely by the newspost and the gamecard (neither uses the term in reference to the pre-order bonus -- just incentive). I get the impression that it just gives you early access (no, not that kind) to a ship that you'd otherwise be able to get in the course of playing the game. But I haven't looked into this anywhere else, so I might be wrong.
^ Now this is perfectly okay (except I don't see why people would want it then).

Maxvorstadt: Yep, nearly 60 Euros for a beta test version is extremely expensive. It`s good that my PC can`t handle it, so I don`t even have to think about buying it! :D
avatar
HunchBluntley: It's a pre-order, not an In Dev game.
Oh, so you pay money for nothing and get no chicks for free?
avatar
amok: Why? What is the relevance?
Presumably an increase in the number of awesome games coming to the store. :)
Any info about the weather? Will there be snow, rain, storms, blizzards, windy (that also bends trees etc..)
avatar
MxMedix: Amazing to see this here.... thank you hellogames and gog...

All your questions will be answered.... Mostly.

Also... There's not really multiplayer in the traditional sense. It's more like a interactive wiki database and you'll likely never see another player in the wild.

following this game for years and never dreamed gog would get this on release.

PLEASE..don't let steam get updates before gog does. Keep the updates on parity.
There also seems to be more fresh news about the game coming out literally right now.
I'll go out on a limb and say there must have been some major press event around the game recently because most coverage has new things and details.
Here is one pretty nice piece:

This game does look really good. The title made me think of the theme song from Firefly.
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me.

Tallima: Since it's all multiplayer, I doubt DRM is a big deal. The multiplayer service will be DRMed up to the nines.
avatar
skeletonbow: That's interesting as both the GOG store page and the Steam store page both say "single-player" with no mention of multi-player. Were they planning on introducing a multi-player at a later date or something?
Huh. Perhaps it's not like the PS4 version where everyone gets their own planet and then moves toward the galactic core and will run into other players?

Not sure.

Edit:

"Share your journey - The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own..."

I don't know exactly what this means, then. I always thought you could run into others. Maybe you can't b/c there's too much distance between? I don't know.

Happy to see this here because releases like this continue to improve GOG's credibility as a "big player" in digital distribution. I don't have a machine to run this nor would I spend $60 on a game, but at least people have the Steam-free option.

(more EA, Activision, Squeenix games pls)

I'm interested to see if this game actually ends up being any good. The only other games the developers seem to have made are Joe Danger and its sequel, so this seems like a pretty ambitious leap from that.

It looks like it could be really cool, but for $60 there's virtually no chance of me buying it until it gets a major discount. That said, I am happy to see that the game is getting released here.

Dunno. You could try going outside and shouting, "I just paid €54.99 (or whatever it is for you) for a digital game that won't be available for four months!", that might have the ladies swarming you. :D
