HunchBluntley: I meant that that makes the title seem even worse, somehow, than when I thought it was just "protagonist's name + random other word". If your guess is right, it's definitely a groan-worthy title. It even makes "Mandolin Rain" sound like a good title by comparison. :P

IAmSinistar: I was just being silly, but yes, it does make more sense when you explain it that way. Sorta as if they had named "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" as "The Vanishing of Guy Gone". :D
I'd file it in the same category of pun/play-on-words titles as Ittle Dew...except "ittle dew" (it'll do) is at least kind of funny.

To put it another way (and tie it back in to your example):
Kathy Rain (Katherine)
=
The Vanishing of E: ...Then Cart Her! (... Ethan Carter)
Anyone who wouldn't groan at least a little at a real title like that ^ cannot possibly be human. :P
