Delayed, with a silver lining...

November 3, 2015 - UPDATE:
Due to publisher request, both the base edition and Collector's Edition of Hard West are again available 20% off during pre-orders - purchasing the standard edition will no longer grant access to the Collector's Edition of the game.

They do, however, have an arsenal of tricks and abilities at their disposal - that, and a healthy dose of luck. Your tactical options will include dynamic, improvised cover, ricochets, and using shadows (not just yours) for every advantage you can get.

Hard West is a game that focuses on offering plenty of depth and unfamiliar twists on your favorite kind of squad-based, tactical gameplay.

Your pre-order includes the Hard West - Digital Collector's Edition complete with a Digital Artbook, Original Digital Comic Book, and the Full Original Digital Soundtrack, all for the price of the regular edition.

Pre-order Hard West, DRM-free on GOG.com. The discount will last for the duration of pre-orders.
It sounds like a really interesting setting. But how is difficulty? From the description it reads like something that would would lead to infuriating abuse of save/reload if not for the even more infuriating lack of it.

Daliz: I backed this. Hopefully they'll give GOG keys to backers :)

F4LL0UT: Yes, you can get a GOG key as a backer if that's your preference.

I guess (or at least hope) that nobody at work is gonna kill me if I proclaim now that I'm one of the developers, I have been working on Hard West for a while now. I'm not a PR person and am not officially here as a representative of CreativeForge but I'll keep an eye on the comments. Some questions I can answer, in case of others I better check with some people at work first. I'll try to make sure that useful feedback makes it to the corresponding guys.

Anyway, whenever you ask yourself "should I buy this game?" please think of poor ol' F4LL0UT. :D
Wow, nice surprise! Can't wait now to see what you did there :D

And it would be nice if you guys can make some KS update with info how to obtain GOG keys...
Deadlands meets Aces and Eights with a GOG member dev, yeah that is an instant buy! I always wanted to play Deadlands but usually couldn't at the conventions just due to timing mainly, although when I finally got to play my first one it was at a convention with Shane Hensley as the DM so that definitely made up for it. Ironically that convention was also the first time I got to try out Aces & Eights: Shattered Frontier in a Firefly setting so yeah definitely ready to play this game! Thanks for bringing this little slice of fun here!

gamesfreak64: As for preordering: i tried once or twice, wont do it again, cause lateron there be sales with cheaper ones.
Finally regarding having confidence ,faith and believe in the devs their games: i guess that all stopped when gamedemo's stopped, a small playable game demo (no rolling demos thats like a video) shows more of the game then a gazillion reviews on video.
So based on the ? "no gamedemo? " fact kinda shows most devs arent 100% certain of their games, luckily there are some devs who still use a playable demo and i thank them for that, i am old gamesplayer and kinda grew up with playable gamedemos instead of videos watching of how a game looks.

HiPhish: So much this! Games are an interactive medium and demos are the only way accurately judge a game's quality. At least with retail games I can re-sell them if I don't like them, but if I don't like a 20$ digital game I'm stuck with it and out of 20$.
thank you, i agree with you on the reselling part, afteral we buy a game for oursleves, its not that we should be reselling it again cause that was not our intention at the first place, it was to addit to our collection and have fun playing the game.
And i am already severly limited in games, i cant play anygame like i explianed (motionscikness/migraines and the rest) so my choice is very limited so if i see a game i can play i want to keep it for myself.

Wild West + TRPG = looks amazing! Wishlisted. :)
Greetings.

Does it have an ongoing storyline like Shadowrun Returns or only separate Missions?

CarrionCrow: A question for you - if someone wants to support the developer, which is the better move to make? Buying pre-order at a discount, or waiting until release and paying retail price?
I'm not really in a position to comment on that, such matters are beyond us mere grunts. I just want to keep getting my paychecks (figuratively speaking, of course - actually they hand us a map and we have to dig up satchels hidden deep in the woods - they said something about a grey area concerning taxes).

CarrionCrow: Additional - Whoever put the trailer video together might want to go back in, cut out the part that says "welcome to the weird west", then send it back to GOG.
Nah, "weird west" is a term referring to the whole genre, coined back in the 70's or something, long before Deadlands was even around. Deadlands is not the origin of everything weird west, mind you. :)

The game mostly tells the long (and some might say epic) story of a specific gunslinger known as Warren. Some parts of the game are departures from that main story line but deal with things happening parallely to or before his adventures, completing his story and filling gaps.

Good suggestion, informing the guys right away. :)

It's not a secret that Hard West is meant to be comparably challenging but we're including different difficulty levels in case the default setting is too much to take for some people. The fights are comparably quick and compact, however, and although some of them will probably require several attempts (unless you've REALLY gotten the hang of it and make clever use of the many special abilities and avoid making big mistakes) it's never much of a set back if you have to start a fight from the beginning.

In my experience it's great fun to try an entirely different approach, experiment with the options you have at your disposal and see how things develop if you position your men differently, try other equipment or abilities and so on. What we've observed from backers (who have had early access), streamers and so on is that when things go wrong they go "damn, that was a stupid mistake" but then instantly give it another try with a better strategy. So no, I don't think that it's a frustrating game, even if it's comparably easy to get your guys killed. :D

Since when do imps get paid in the first place?

Same question can be asked of giants named Kabuto :P

Pheace: This, in a way. I don't mind zombies, but I just don't like fighting demons in games, i've skipped entire games because fighting demons just doesn't interest me :/
There isn't that much demon fighting in Hard West. Plot-wise the supernatural is always involved on some level and you can beef up all your characters with occult skills but most fights are good ol' wild west gunfights in a variety of locations.

Engerek01: 1- I am wondering if the game will be like Wasteland 2. I am hearing it will be like the original Fallouts so this is a logical assumption.
I got an okay from my boss to talk a bit more openly about the game here, so I'll also comment on that:

I haven't gotten to play Wasteland 2 myself yet but assuming that it's anything like Fallout 1 and 2: it would be a bit of an unfair comparison. As I said in another post, the focus is engaging tactical combat which is certainly far more advanced than in the original Fallout games, which is quite obvious with the clear XCOM inspirations (but don't mistake Hard West for a simple XCOM clone - under the hood it works quite differently). You don't get to explore towns and talk to NPCs there, the close ups are all about combat or its preparation, although some decisions you make during the fights can have consequences (other than which gunman gets to fight another day, of course).

You do travel on an overworld map, though, and get to trade and interact with the occasional peculiar character and make decisions there. Don't expect tons of questing and stuff but do expect tough choices that can change quite a few things. Each scenario comes with a twist that makes it play differently than the others. :)

I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on the full release. I was all over this on the Kickstarter. The latest demo is awesome.

I backed at the Prospector tier level, so I'm really looking forward to seeing my named character in the game.... and then killing him.

-laughs- Okay, fair enough. Will take that as "either way, so long as there are customers so you can have money for shovels rather than digging up the satchels with your hands, it's good".

Good to know. My first thought was that a lot of people seem way too happy to sue others at the drop of a hat, like the people who make Power Rangers being such assholes to the team that made Chroma Squad.
